I did the Half Dome round trip in one day back in the 90s. Made a new friend on top of Half Dome and we hiked back down together and once we were down we went to our respective camp ⛺️ grounds, took showers and then met at Yosemite Lodge for a steak dinner around 7pm that evening. What a wonderful day for us both! Unforgettable!
This was so beautiful. I've watched it about 5 times so far over the few weeks via my TV and just had to login to the RU-vid app just so I could leave this comment. It was so relaxing, The images and music were so well mixed together I become immersed in the video each and every time I watch it.
I solo day hiked half dome june 6, 2019 (opening day for this season) and loved this video. You perfectly capture the beauty of the hike along with the serenity.

Thank you for making this! I went with my wife and friends back in 2017 for the first time. I can vividly remember each of those steps you were taking in your shots. The snow pack was similar in 2017 so the Mist Trail was wild. I will probably come back and watch this video every couple of weeks! #hikeon
It's been almost 60 years since I first climbed Half Dome, and a full 40 years since the last time. In those years, I did it a total of six times, often with my younger brother. One time, the cables had not yet been raised to their 'climbing' position, but were simply lying in place up the slope. My brother and I climbed anyway, still pulling the cables up a bit and using them to aid us. Coming back down was a little more challenging, but we just took it slow and easy.
I've hiked Half Dome twice - once before you needed a permit and once after permits were required to get to the top. Stunningly beautiful both times I did it. Loved this video!
Same here, wow I never realized it was 32 miles, I hiked it without thinking about how long it would take loooool i thought it was like 10 miles LOOOOL

Thanks, you're living the life I missed. Not jealous, did a lot when I was younger but it was breaks from work, family, caregiving parents and just everyday living. Those trips I did were wonderful but far too short. Enjoying your trips vicariously.
Lump in my throat when I saw this. I have done this hike three times -- 17 mile round trip in one day. This was just a fast forward view of what is a very long, difficult trek this one is. Back in the 90’s there were no permits and the cable was jammed with hikers going up and coming down. A few crazies would go outside the cables and walk the granite. I love Yosemite and miss it so much. Will see it again someday.
Well done, Kraig. The Half Dome hike is the only one I haven’t captured yet in Yosemite. Gotta track down a permit next time I head that way. Couple recommendations. First, Lord Howe Island. Just go there. Smallish Island but great hiking. You’re welcome. Second, Rapa Nui. Remote, easy hiking, and obviously a very unique history. Hope to bump into you sometime on trail. Great video. Especially that edit at 0:30. I was in Yosemite earlier this month and did all these trails except Half Dome because I wasn't lucky enough to win the permit lottery. Glad you did and shared this video.
Did this hike when I was 16 and was not feeling too confident when hiking up and down the cables! Phenomenal hike though, loved the experience and Yosemite is one of the most beautiful places I’ve been to.

I went to Yosemite and hiked up to Vernal Falls once years ago as a kid with some family. It’s something I’ll never forget and cannot wait until I can go back.
First time I did this hike in 1986 I was the only person on top of Half Dome my entire stay. It was so cool. My girlfriend (wouldn't go up the dome cables) and I hiked to the top of Yosemite fall one day then Half Dome the next and Glacier Point the following day. We were young. Late 20's. My following visits to Half Dome 200+ people and then literally 1000+. Never went back due to the crowds. No permits back in those days. Often back then many wouldn't venture past the top of Nevada Falls. A good way to get a last minute campsite during summer months, vehicle breakdown emergency campsites.
I too visited Yosemite this June and although I didn’t get a half done permit the most trail and upper Yosemite falls hikes were absolutely mindblowing
Just visited to Yosemite did the Vernal Fall and Nevada, I’m not an experienced hiker so I’m waiting to do half dome but this video is amazing so spectacular!
Epic time lapse at that start and that waterfall looks just amazing fun. Would have liked to have seen more of the hike though. I've just pencilled another one on to the list thanks.
I’m planning a trip to the park for the first time but I wouldn’t be able to do the half dome I heard so much about. I have lots of fear so I’ll probably stay somewhere below. 😂. Thanks for sharing
I was just in Yosemite the first week of June and did the Mist Trail to the top of Vernal Falls but then I went back down from there down the John Muir Trail. Absolutely beautiful, but I wish I had hiked all the way up Half Dome.
I want to go back and see more of Yosemite Valley, but it's so darn crowded there. WAY too many people for my comfort. I visited Yosemite years ago and didn't see nearly enough. I never hiked up to Half Dome. I love these videos, Kraig! Thanks!!
Neat bumping into at the permit center before your hike, great video. I took the JMT up and Mist Trail back down, saved it as more of a cleansing experience hiking out of the wilderness (and kept my gear dry lol).

Don’t make the mistake I did going on the Vernal Falls hike. I didn’t bring a raincoat because I didn’t think I would get wet. I was soaked after. It literally looked like I jumped into the river 😂

I did this hike last week also at 15 years old. An amazing experience and we are a very select group of people who have climbed the granite mass. Great job!
So beautiful. It's something I've always wanted to do myself but haven't gotten around to. Sometimes it's difficult to decide one option over another, but with so many amazing choices out there you can't really go wrong. That's it, i'm signing up for storyblocks.
Just discovered your channel, love your stuff! We did this hike this last summer too, was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. We were the last climbers of the day and had the dome and cables all to ourselves, it was amazing. Coming back through the mist section in the dark wasn't *quite* as fun though. :D
I've been trying for the last 2 years to get a permit. Maybe the trick is adding it to a wilderness permit. Have been up the Mist trail twice this year with an attempt at Clouds Rest. Excellent video. Thanks for sharing!
Nice. I live just down the road and although I LOVE this park it is over run the last few years with too many people. I can hardly bring myself to go up there this time of year. I hope you had a good experience. I just was up there shooting a wedding a week ago and looks very similar conditions to the footage in this piece.
