Hiking 114 km (71 miles) of the Vancouver Island Trail from the town of Woss to the Strathcona Dam. As we start this section, the rail grade ends abruptly and we are faced with very challenging route finding and bushwhacking. This persists for much of this section with logging road walking interspersed.
This section ends up gifting me my hardest day of hiking ever, with multiple wasp stings, bushwhacking, and scary bear encounters. We see elk twice and push ourselves to the absolute limit. We climb over countless blow downs and brave the most rugged hiking on the island. It truly is terrible.
