This first episode of this series on my adventures hiking The Lycian Way 2022, takes us from the official starting point at Oludeniz to the beginning of the Patara Peninsula, or thereabouts.
I could not go on my planned motorbike trip to Spain in Jan/Feb 2022, which I explain why, later in this series. So I went to turkey to hike the 540km Lycian Way, from late Feb 2022, wild camping as often as possible, and had 31 days to complete.
I had only done one long distance hike before, and that was the GR20 in Corsica 5 years ago. I had no idea how my body would handle the weight of the rucksack on such a long trail.
Overall, the trip was a great experience. Fantastic scenery, awesome hiking, mountains n sea, flora and fauna, terrific history, and a fabulous 9 days at the end in the beautiful Geyikbayiri valley, where I spent 6 days climbing it's wonderful crags. To enjoy the climbing at the end of the trail, I missed out a couple of boring sections, and missed a few more due to bad weather, so I probably only hiked about 400km. Enough for me, I needed a change of activity. And climbing I love, even though I’m not at a high standard, and never will be now. I started too late in my life, but the pleasure I get from it is amazing.
I hope you enjoy watching the videos of this trip.
I have no idea how many episodes there will be, editing in progress. I hope to post one to two episodes per week.
This series is not a guide in any shape or form, it’s just a bit of fun showing my adventures. But if anybody has any questions about The Lycian Way, I will do my best to help.#oldwildandfree #lycianway #hikingadventures
