In this video, I'm going to share with you a famous gorge in Yamanashi Prefecture Japan. Because I know just like me you're curious as to why this gorge and the mountains surrounding it, is a crowd magnet itself.
THE SHOSENKYO GORGE
Mitake-shosenkyo in Kofu Yamanashi is one of Japan's most beautiful gorges. It is part of the Chichibu-Tama-Kai National Park!
This place is a certified tourist destination in the Autumn season. In the month of November, its gorge will be surrounded by colorful autumn foliage.
ACCESS
To access this beautiful place, Take the JR line and get to Kofu station take a bus going to Shosenkyo Gorge and get off at Shosenkyo Gorge Entrance.

Nice videos John, I just got into hiking in Japan so I am learning a lot. I did a crazy hike along the SHIMANO-ROKA trail last November, have you done it?

Oh! The Kurobe gorge trail?? Not yet sir! But that’s one in my bucketlist. The thing about it is access. Sooo confusing to access and takes a lot of time. But there’s a lot of info about it now. How was it for you?

I'm planning to hike the Kumonodaira area in the North Japan Alps in early September. Then I'll spend 2 and a half days at the end of the trip in Tokyo before flying back to Thailand. I'm Thinking about going somewhere close to nature for a day that is just a hop away from Tokyo so Shosenkyo seems perfect. Thanks for making this video! PS.I've been to Japan almost 20 times so the usual tourist haunts like Shibuya crossing, Sensoji, Shinjuku, etc already lost their appeal to me.

Hi Thank you for such kind words. The northern alps should have some autumn leaves in September but I don’t think Shosenkyo will have them during that time. It still has great views though especially in September when the weather is starting to become a bit stable. Just my opinion, I don’t think Japan is suffering from over tourism. Well, it is true for some places like the ones you mentioned. The nature side of Japan is yet to be explored in my honest opinion.

@@JohnHikerDolar that's true! Most of the nature places I've visited were mostly populated by Japanese, probably because they need a bit more research and planning than famous spots in the cities. I just hope the natural parks and mountains there remain undisturbed but with enough travelers for the mountain huts and park offices to be functioning with sufficient profits for a long time.
