This documentary describes my September 2022 through-hike of the Oregon Coast Trail. This 31-day adventure was a solo hike complete with unexpected thrills and peril, indescribable beauty and experience, and a day-by-day description of the entire journey. Beginning on the beach, Septembrer 03, 2022 just south of the Washington border at the Columbia River, the trail travels south along the Oregon Coast on the beach, over headlands and capes, and passes several historic lighthouses and charming communities hidden along the coastal corridor of Oregon.
Exploring the many Oregon State Parks and Campgrounds and documenting other trailside camping areas, I also was surprised by the vast variety of animals and plants, and fungi along the path. The diverse geology along the coastal headlands and capes as well as the variety of rivers that empty into the vast Pacific are also shown. Despite some difficulties and a few injuries which happen in most through-hikes, I finished strong reaching Crissey Field just north of the California Border Monday, October 3. This is a sparsely traveled trail often an alternative for those who leave the Pacific Crest Trail, chased away by fires. This almost 400-mile trail spans a diverse coast and although the elevation is never higher than 2000 feet, it has its own challenges as you will see. For those who want more detailed information, please contact me in the comments below if you have questions.
There are excellnt trail references on the Oregon State Parks website (stateparks.ore...) also. I used the trail guide, Hiking the Oregon Coast Trail, by author and hiker Bonnie Henderson, copyright 2021 for the most up-to-date info. If you enjoy adventure and love hiking with the wind at your back breathing the fresh ocean air, come visit the Oregon coast, a truly beautiful place on earth.
Thank you so much for watching and subscribing to my channel and supporting me. I hope you can find enjoyment in any trip you take to the outdoors. You are never too old to enjoy nature so get out there and breathe in and enjoy your day!
Thanks also to my music providers at Bensound.com and xvkmonline.com.

Great to see this! I did it in 4 seasons, 2013 - 2016. 450 miles with the in-out hikes to camping spots, from the Columbia River to California (a bit farther than the official trail). I have video and GPS tracks of the whole trail. I'm interest in how you did Cascade Head because the trail on the north side was closed. I walked in on an access road and did the south part of the trail there.

I watched the first hour, saving the rest for later. I was about 2 weeks ahead of you. I was hiking into South Beach when you started from Ft. Stevens. I hiked the OCT once in '21, 3x in '22 and 2x in '23. I just have not got tired of it yet. I'll be back out this year for at least one more trip. I've gone southbound 4x and northbound twice.

Getting a partial knee replacement. Looking to get back into hiking. This looks like the ticket. I’ve Moto toured the coast several times and was always intrigued by the hikers I’ve met doing this trip. Thanks for this informative video from a personal experience. ~GrizzLee.

I'm headed out next week to start my OCT down to Lincoln City or as far as I can make it in three weeks! Thanks so much for your video and documenting the trip. Since I'm flying in, it is so helpful to know how to prepare. I also noticed your USAA hat, are you a Veteran as well?

Nicely edited. I especially enjoyed your last two days and the beach walk down to the Winchuck River. I think it should be wadable in August at low tide? That was my plan at least in 2016, but the Boardman State Park trail had so many squiggles in the trail that I was late and missed low tide at McVay Park and had to go out to hwy 101 to finish the hike. I enjoyed seeing some differences you made from my hike. I'd do it all again but I laughed when you made a negative comment or two about sand because I'd had enough sand for a while too at the end. I took 32 days compared to your 31. I walked through the Heceta Head tunnel but you did it the better way!

Thanks John. Heading out to the new C2c trail in April. Corvallis to the sea (near ono beach north of seal rock). 60 miles on forest service and private lands. Then the north umpqua trail at the end of May and the Oregon PCT segment in July and August.

I hate it when they put an unlawful "trail closed" sign up in front of a publicly paid for trail. Never stopped me anyway...
