WOW! Loved your video! Hoping I can go next year so I'm saving up and preparing! Do you mind me asking how much was your budget/costs for this portion of the trip? Also noticed you had hiking poles, which ones did you get and do you recommend them?
@travelwithfawn
@travelwithfawn 11 месяцев назад
I rented the hiking poles from my hostel (Corner Hostel in puerto natales) I forgot how much but it wasn't expensive. My budget was a big high for this trip, the lodging is not cheap like $100 a night to stay in dorms. The tent option is cheaper around $40 a night, it's even cheaper to bring your own tent $7 for the campground.

your video is so helpful to my next trip! When did you go for the trekking? I may go there during August and I am afraid of extreme cold weather.
@travelwithfawn
@travelwithfawn 4 месяца назад
Hey! August is not the best time to go as it's winter! The refugios are only open from October-May, you would need a private guide outside of those times.
@TheWendyhan0120
@TheWendyhan0120 Год назад
Thank you so much for this! Would you make a video about your expenses?
@travelwithfawn
@travelwithfawn Год назад
It might take me a bit, when are you going? Most of the expense is the lodging inside the park, which can range from $10/night (you bring everything including tent and just rent the spot) to $50-$100 a night depends on if you want to stay at tent or dorm. I brought all my food except the dinner the first night ~$30 and purchased few drinks which was around $15. So in terms of lodging I would estimate I spent $350 for 3 nights (this would be less if you are sharing the room with someone else, I didn't). I spent $50/night at Puerto Natales, but you can get much cheaper or expensive lodging as well there.

Beautiful video Fawn, thanks so much for sharing it online! I read through the comments but it doesn’t seem that somebody asked already: except for the first day where you used your day backpack, do you have to bring all your backpacks with you from one stop to another? Or are you able to drop the big backpack at the first campsite/lodge and take it back once finished the W track? Thanks!

That’s actually super impressive. The booking process overwhelms me greatly so far and keeps preventing me from pulling the plug haha. Good on you for being able to do that on your own! I’m actually curious about one last thing: how did you deal with the fear of doing it alone? Especially since it was your first multi day hike as a solo female. I will also do it as a solo female hiker and it actually really scares me haha. What if something goes wrong… what if I find myself in an unsafe position etc.

Best video in terms of what to expect and places to stay! Love the fall foliage - may I know which week of March/April you went? I’d really love to catch fall there after seeing your video. Also did you book through a company or on your own? Which is better for a first time multi-day hiking experience?
@travelwithfawn
@travelwithfawn 9 месяцев назад
Hi I was there April 18, I think even a week or two earlier would've been better as some leaves are falling, but every year is different. I booked on my own because it was the cheapest. I think for first time it's very doable on your own as there are many people on the trail. However going with a tour might save some time if you don't want to book each of the refugios.
@sindhubm93

Thank you for the very informative video, beautiful hike!! I'm also planning a solo trip to the W trek this November, unfortunately the refugios at Frances and Cuernos are already booked out. Only options are camps and I don't want to bring camping gear with me. Did you have trouble finding availability for the refugios? I assume you booked on the Las Torres & Vertice websites? If there truly aren't spots, do you know if I can skip this section somehow?
@travelwithfawn
@travelwithfawn Год назад
Hello, I didn't have issues with booking but I went during low season in April. I think there are few other camps available close to those two, maybe Italiano? You can also rent tents from the refugios if you don't want to bring the gear. Yes, I booked using those two websites.

*Reminder: The denomination "patagonia" is absolutely Chilean; there is no "Argentine Patagonia"; This was a contemporary appropriation (theft) of the Argentines for purely tourist purposes* *"Patagonia" derives from the expression "patagones" with which the Portuguese navigator, Hernando de Magallanes (1480-1521) identified the natives who inhabited the famous Strait of Magellan; and this strait is Chilean and has always been Chilean* Furthermore, geographically and climatically speaking, Chilean Patagonia is "green", humid and cold; On the other hand, the falsely called "Argentine Patagonia" is desert - arid (see satellite map) without prejudice to the territorial thefts that the Argentine Republic has carried out in the past on sectors of Chilean Patagonian territory, such as, for example, the attempted unilateral aggression and war by Argentina in the so-called "Beagle Conflict" (1978) where the Argentines attempted to steal by armed means all of Chile's strategic and iconic territories that make up not only the end of America, but also the end of the world. Fortunately evil (and envy) never triumph.
