I did Red Hill yesterday. It was a gorgeous day to be out. I met a group of men and got talking about hiking. I said the only reason I was doing the hike was because I watched a video on RU-vid about it and one of the guys asked if it was Taylor. We both decided as I was huffing and puffing that we aren't out of shape but that you are much younger than we and that I shouldn't try and compete with your pace. Thanks for giving me ideas for new hikes. It keeps me motivated.
What perfect timing! My 6 year old daughter is working on her fire tower patch for both New Hampshire and Vermont. She has 3 more to go, having done Cardigan and Kearsarge South. I SO appreciate your showing the parking situation for each of these! I plan to take her to all of them though 😉
Taylor, thank you for taking us along! Come spring time I will be taking two of my grand girls with me and hike a fire tower or two! I put the names in my "bucket" and already found two on Maps! I am glad you listened to your body and didn't push for the fifth tower as hiking should be smiles! Thanks also for the valuable info about the toers, like parking, elevation and miles. BTW, how was that Five Guys burger?
I just found this video the day after me and my friend did this, luckily we did it during the summer so we didn't run out of light until the end. We started at belknap and ended at oak hill and it took us around 11 hours. Really great video.
I unknowingly started the NH Tower Quest last year in May when the Hubby and I hiked Green Mtn. We did Blue Job and Pawtuckaway today! It was such a beautiful day for it. Hopefully we'll finish the quest next month. I'm from Maine and we dont have as many cool hiking challenges like this. Thanks for sharing all your adventures!
"I have shin splints!"- crowd says, "No, keep hiking!" "I am going to get caught behind a locked gate and I am going to run out of daylight!"-crowd says, "No, keep hiking!" "I have 5 guys coming". - crowd says, "Ok! Sounds good!"
Awesome! You have been very inspirational to my wife & I as we prepare for our upcoming 2022 Appalachian Trail hike! Can’t tell you how many times I’ve mentioned you in our videos! Thank you!!!!🥾🥾⛺️
I only made it 3 flights up the Oak Hill Tower this past summer. Those stairs are too STEEEP and too narrow. Great hike, though. I have done a lot of these shorter hikes in the Lakes Region and the Capital Region. It's a great way to get out without having to travel 2 hours. We have been spoiled with the beautiful weather this Autumn/Fall The upper most parking lot on Carriage Rd. I think is the worst/scariest parking lot to get to. That is on steep and narrow access road.
Another great video. How about a video with tips and info off videoing while hiking. Want to start videoing my hikes in the spring, to share with family. Love your videos so informative
Great video thanks 👍 I definitely want to give Red Hill a go! btw from one NH transplant to another, I was corrected several years ago by NH locals as to the correct pronunciation of Blue Job. It is Blue Jōb, as in lobe, like ear lobe 🤪 lol who knew?
Morning Taylor! Great video! It is awesome that they created this patch. They should do one for the over achievers that do them all! Below freezing and iced coffee! Representing! 😂 You had a perfect day for views! Trails seemed pretty clear of leaves, way more than when I hiked MSGT last month. Better color too! Me and my Suby love a good class IV road! Having to drive on one really makes me feel like I earned my hike a little bit more. Sorry about your shinsplints. I hope they settle down soon. I heard five guys is a total cure for shinsplints. Over all really good miles and elevation for the day. Especially with all the driving. Strava effort is based on heart rate for the most part. It’s a good stat for training as it’s a personal stat. 🙏 Thanks for bringing us along today. I hope tomorrow’s miles are kind. Keep truckin’ and be well. -Grateful
Great video. Great concept. What a day. Particularly liked Red Hill as I've been to Center Harbor a couple of times. You live in a wonderful part of the world.
These fire towers look a lot better built than the only one I've ever climbed, which was up in Canada. There weren't any stairs, only a ladder, and not the best ladder, either.....and the tower was so skinny, it definitely had a sway to it in the breeze! But then again, this was a tower out in the middle of nowhere, on an island, and all the building materials probably had to have been flown in on float planes.
Thank you that was beautiful!😍 Your wisdom kicked in, not doing the 5th hike/fire tower. I just completed my first full marathon (did 4 1/2’s before, but didn’t run for 2 years). If you are using old shoes 👟 that could cause of the shin splints. You can put peppermint essential oil on your shins that will help with the inflammation. I also found a great video on RU-vid to stretch after your run. Which will be linked just after this.
It was today days ago when I learned it isn't necessary to have to do all 15 to get the patch!! 😂 Not sure how I didn't realize that till now... and I love the adventure of this video!! It's so fun to embark on an epic hiking day 😁
4 out of 5? Nothing wrong with that. My two favorite fire towers in NH are at Great Hill (easy) and Kearsarge North (difficult). 360 views. You are allowed to sleep overnight in the later on a first come basis at no charge.
Super entertaining! Who would name a fire tower “Blew Job”, btw. lol Forest rangers sense of humor, I guess. lol. I’m going to bring my binoculars and try to earn my patch. Thanks, Taylor!
Does Oak Hill still have the broken down Old RV thing at the top? Blue Job was a good hike. Little Blue Job has the best view though. I still need to hike Green Mountain. I don't like those types of roads either 😬 I loved the Red Hill/Cabin Hill loop hike. This was one of my winter solo hikes!! I remember that caution sign. Shin splints are not fun. I kept running on mine years ago and ended up with stress fractures 😩 Love the stats! Parking is always stressful for me when I don't know what the parking situation is!!
Where the Crawdads Sing is a 2018 novel by American author Delia Owens. A murder happens off a FIRE TOWER ... if you have not read it, run to a book store and buy it. GREAT BOOK!
Came here to say this. Little Blue Job is the best bang for your buck view in southern New Hampshire. On a clear day you can see all the way past Chocorua to Mt. Washington.
Mount Shaw, which straddles the Moultonborough/Tuftonborough town line (elevation 2990') is the highest mountain the Ossippee range, but is not where Castle in the Clouds is located.
2:36 Trade secrets, Taylor? Did you go up all there only to return and do it all over again, to get the footage from within too? Or do you have dual cameras? 😅
Have you climbed to the fire tower on the summit of Priestly Mountain? Just asking because I want to know if you have to ford a stream to get to it or is there a bridge?
