In this video we explore the hike to Travertine Falls in the Sandia Mountain Wilderness. This is an easy hike on the South side of the Sandia Mountains just off of I-40 from the Canyon Estates Neighborhood.
Unfortunately the falls was dry when we visited but I have a little footage from when we visited in the past and there was water. Now granted, this is not a real river type waterfall, but a trickle of water from the mountains over a cliff, but the source of water in the desert can make the area very lush!
The is an easy 1.1 mile round trip hike great for kids. We continued up this trail to the intersection of The Faulty Trail, trail 95 and came back. This trail is a portion of the South Crest Trail 130.
Directions: Take I-40 East from Albuquerque and get off on the Cedar Crest Tijeras Exit and merge right towards Tijeras, then turn left on 337 under I-40. Turn right just after the overpass and follow the road to the trailhead, the road will dead end. This trail is free.
