May is a great month for grizzlies. Thanks for sharing them with us. Good job keeping a safe distance -- I used to work summers in the park, and I swear some folks acted like they wanted to ride them.

Beutiful scenery. He was tracking your scent, they'll sometimes zig zag as scent is disbursed. Wise judgment on your part to keep that distance buffer.

I live in the city and I work in the city, outdoors on one of the busiest and noisiest boulevards in town... Watching these videos with my headphones in allows me to enjoy the silence and quiet sounds of nature. A relief

That was a great video, you sure got some good shots of bears. The big grizzly was coming right towards you that was so scary . He was really big. Always love to see moose , what a beautiful day you had seeing the mom with her Cubs were so cute. Thank you for a awesome day in grizzly country

Wow! That was a HUGE boar! To see him tracking my scent like that and COMING in my direction instead of running away would have scared me!

Anytime you said "I don't know if he sees me," I was thinking "he prob does, get the hell out of there." And this after the grizzly, that could go in any direction he pleased, happens to head in your direction. Be safe out there, have your bear spray at the ready. At full haul that bear could catch up to you in a matter of seconds. Unlikely, yes, but it's a wild animal, so unpredictable. What's cool about your vids is that you capture that danger, raise the suspense, but don't get yourself hurt.

Great video Stan I really enjoyed it! We are heading to Yellowstone in a week for our first trip and we want to see all of the big stuff plus spend some time in the back country. I would love to see some moose and grizzlies. Would you be able to give me some great tips on where to see these and some other things not to miss on our trip? I appreciate it.

Hi, We were in Yellowstone in May also, we were lucky enough to see wolves in Lamar Valley. Like you we love wildlife, we will go back in May 2020. We were wondering what kind of camera and lens were you using. Really good job keeping your nerve staying calm and being smart. Keep on keepin on.

I was in Yellowstone back country hiking in 2017 with the boyscouts and never saw a single animal or bear

woaw that dangerous beast had you in his nose good. This video showed well how the bear thinks, when it crossed that lane of of snow you could tell it was thinking : "yep that ape prey crossed this". Imagine if it started running in your direction. Even fully armed that is scary. Seing this beastly predator hunting you down is scary. I suspect the adrenaline is part of ther call to do this although you got more than you bargained for that time. It always is, in all sports, it's the danger that makes one return and do it again.

I love Yellowstone and have started to go as a family tradition some years back , we've only been during summer and are thinking about trying different seasons......what time of year is this , spring ?

I have to ask. What sort of protection do you carry? It seems you're all alone, miles from your car? Do you have a SPOT emergency GPS in case you are injured, as I assume there is no cell phone coverage. If you don't come back from a trip, how will loved ones know you are safe and well? Do you carry a large calibre gun, or perhaps one (or two..LOL) cans of bear spray. YOU LOOK LIKE YOU ARE ALONE IN DANGEROUS COUNTRY, and I just wonder what your emergency back up plans are? Roger, who has never seen a live grizzly, or been out west, but finds your videos instructive and interesting.

just home from the entire park and area went to cooke city too nothing but three moose - we dont hike we didn't venture off the board walks - lots of driving - we loved our trip.

Hey there. We are 3 going to Yellowstone in the end of June. Wapiti Lake Trail is on the list. Then plan is to hike out there and be at the lake camp site around 1800 / 6 pm ish maybe a touch later. But with enough time to set up a tent and a camp fire IF allowed. How ever. Do you have any good tips? We are not avid hikers and we are from a place called Denmark were well the most dangerous animals are dogs and ticks :/. Bear spray is one the list of things to get before we go into any of the parks we are going to. Would be nice to have a chat with you :)

stayed at the antler inn jackson and the manager debbie there said there were a 23 year old mom bear with twin babies.

That bear knew he was there. Just didn't give a crap. My few expierences with bears have all been scary, the scariest was when i was at yellowstone and my grandma went in the woods to takr a picture and she came running out screaming like an idiot and this big grizzly chasing after her. So I jumped in front of her and with my size since im 6'5 I went in front of the bear put my arms up and made myself look bigger and showed the bear i wasn't scared. The bear stood up on its 2 hind legs creating a menacing sight for me. I held my ground till eventually it went back on all 4s and snarled at me and sniffed the perimeter and then it left. I then made a mistake of turning my back to it and the bear was sneaking behind me so I turned around put my arms up and sweet talked the bear, while it had its nose penetrating my personal space bubble just snarling at me. Once he gave in again I walked backwards slowly.

What do they dig for?

My guess is they are digging for ground dwelling small mammals like ground squirrel.

Pretty sad that’s all you see anymore when you go to the park is fricken grizzlies. Enjoy seeing the elk while you can cuz in a few years there won’t be any left. I’ve lived in this country all my life and it’s almost suicide to go hiking around Yellowstone these days and these bears are very aggressive. I was chased twice, first time I hid in a slash pile n second time I went up a tree. I was very lucky. I seen 16 grizzlies in one day between gardiner and Livingston.

Hope you had bear spray. It really doesn't matter if they don't see you. They can smell food from 2 miles away. They definitely knew you were there. Glad it stayed a nice peaceful video.

Beautiful country but dangerous you know that bear could have crossed that hundred and fifty yards and no time on a run 60 mile an hour

There could have been two or more show up than you would have a real scare.dont put yourself in danger for a photo a bear can out run you use a go pro camera alot safer.

Stan, I enjoy your wildlife videos but your lack of Bear savvy and experience really worries me. Playing hide and seek with Grizzly's is a really bad idea. Your mimicking the same tactics a hunter uses hunting big game only your not an experienced hunter and your unarmed. Many experienced hunters get mauled and some get killed every year. You may want to rethink your videoing strategy. As a side note a Grizzly can run 35MPH for a short distance, 100 to 200 yards. They can cover that 200 yards in about 6 seconds in full on predator mode. Be safe.
