Quick video here, that has nothing to do with cars... lol
For a long time that I wanted to replace the HDD on my CCTV system... today was the day!
Nothing rocket science, but just thought about sharing it with you guys!

I just installed a dummy camera and I believe this is enough to make sure no other men are comming to my house while I am at work 👍

Hi Luis, you will probably find your frame rates are set at either 25 or 30 FPS as default - you can safely drop them to 12/15 you will hardly notice any difference but it will massively improve your disk space - setting the recorder to motion record will help you “survey more” esp during the night - also as someone has commented below you really should have a surveillance grade HDD as they are constantly in use 👍🏻

Ive got a 2tb hard drive it would record for about 30 days now my hard disk wont detect after being dropped going to buy another hard disk and try swapping, hopefully it will automatically detect the replacement hard disk

Should do... but you will have to initialize it before it becomes operational... 👍👍👍

Hi Luis Looking at this video gives me the the impression that you do or have worked as a maintenance technician in a factory at some stage. My guess maybe a systems tech dealing with PLC code. Had to comment on this as I came from the manufacturing back ground.. Would I be right. ??????

Never "played" with those hdds... so not sure... Unless they have some sort of protection, the nvr should be able to format it... Thank you for watching and for your comment!

I have been given a hikvision dvr with faulty hard drive but if I put a new hard drive in will it work for me or do I have to register through hikvision,not sure how I go about it

The hard drive is for storage only... The registration with hikvision is just to be able to access it remotely... At least, on my model... 👍👍👍

U should get server grade HDD and use 720p and not full hd to max periode of time recording

Record lower quality... But to be honest, the 320gb has been there for over 4 years if I am not mistaken... and was already used at the time... and, still good... I only changed it due to having this bigger one... as I said in the video... I ideally, you want a proper hdd for CCTV systems... they last longer... Thank you for watching and for your comment!

Hi, my hikvison system after about 6 weeks it starts to beep (auto restarts). I am able to see the recording. The HD capacity is 931gb, set as R/W. Its showing 0mb free. Can you let me know why i have to keep on initialize to stop the device from restarting? Hikvison HVR 4.0 firmware 4.20.202 Build 190610. I have 6 channels. Thanks.

Do you have the setting to write over enabled? If not, is probably recording untill the drive is full, then you initialize it and does it all over again... With the write over enabled (not sure how the option is called now, but is something along those lines), once the hdd is full it just writes over the oldest recordings... That is how I have mine... On my new house now, I added another camera, on 3 cameras my 1 tb hdd holds about 5 days of recordings, that's how further back I can go... need a bigger hdd to hold more days... Hope it makes sense...
