The orchestra was too loud. The name of the piece is "Oblivion": we need a bit of quietness, solitude, an empty space for rumination, for the past to echo. I love Hilary Hann's violin skills like I love myself, but this arrangement is not at all "soundable". This version is what I called "serenity": ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AT1IivIQYSw.html
Quite a few accordions come with a bandoneon reed chamber, which is what the guy is using here. Useful when bandoneons aren’t at hand, especially since most of them are vintage and go for really high prices!
I think this is the first time I don't like a Hilary Hahn's video. don't get me wrong, she's as perfect as always, but the arrangement and the fact that it's being played with a acordeón instead of a bandoneon just disagrees with me. love you Hilary
Qizas porque cada uno toca su instrumento y hay música que trasciende el instrumento con la que fue creada. Hay música con alma que elige a su interprete y se sabe al escucharla.
Setting aside the fact that Hilary's violin playing is magnificent, I'm still disappointed they used an accordion instead of a bandoneon. It's as if Hilary Hahn were using a viola, though from the same "family", it's completely different from a violin. That's why the piece feels a bit cold and less sorrouful than the original. Even so, it' s a very beautiful rendition.
The thing is that the accordeonist sounds pretty bad too... Listen to Richard Galliano's version, he achieves oblivion perfection with an accordion Edit: here's the link if you want ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fCfyxE1Ov8E.html
It looks like this was "just" an encore after a concert devoted to Bach (link below). And because the director plays some accordion, he couldn’t resist "doing" Oblivion together with Hilary Hahn. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kCV0dfYh92I.html
Listen to an accordion version with the Symphony in Russia...the soloist there on accordion is amazing. There are lots of versions on different instruments.
Одно из несамых удачных выступлений всего оркестра вместе с лидирующими. Хиллари как всегда бездушно, аккордеон так себе, лучше бы его не было там. А аранжировка вообще другая история,....каляка-маляка.
I was about to write exactly the same! This is technically perfect, it is really really good, but it lacks the vulnerability, subtlety, wisdom, despair, strength, humanity I love in the Kremer version. Kremer's oblivion is out of this world and divine.
I find this to be the case in almost everything she plays. I really want to like Hilary, she seems so nice, and technically she is so skilled and polished, but I’m disappointed to find that she seldom if ever expresses any emotion or passion in a way that moves me. I felt more emotion in Mikyung Sung’s double bass quartet version of this, for instance.
