If you have ever played twinkle twinkle little star on the violin before, you’ll know that it is very difficult to play like that. Slow bowing, seamless bow change, making simple melody not to sound boring, those dynamics, clean double stops, and yes the intonation. Playing simple piece is like playing rhythm game in a slow mode, but with a handicap that making a single mistake a game over.

"Twinkle" is usually the first melody every beginning classroom string orchestra student plays on the violin because of its simple fingering pattern when it is played in the key of D major. D-D-A-A-1-1-A-3-3-2-2-1-1-D all in 1st position. However, playing open strings gives the notes a nasal quality. Hahn shifts her left hand to 3rd position to give all the notes an even timbre and plays it in the key of G, so now the fingering of that same melody is 1-1-1-1-2-2-1-4-4-3-3-2-2-1. Now that all notes are fingered, she plays them with vibrato to give a warm tone. Using the 4th finger (pinkie) requires strength that beginning students have not yet developed. Then her variation shifts the melody an octave higher and then plays double stops by adding the harmonic line with a second finger and bowing across two strings.

This is why she isn't a "prodigy". She's a true Artist. I think the same about Yuja Wang. It's not just that they the hardest pieces flawless, but they create a space for the audience to experience whatever they play exactly how they intend it. You could have heard the piece a million times, but this time, in this moment, Hillary is taking you by the hand and showing you Twinkle Twinkle Little Star in a way that is unique, subtle and nuenced. These women will be changing how we think about music until we officially call them legendary.

Ofc she’s not a prodigy. She’s 41. Fucking insane bc of how young she looks. On a technical level she’s up there with Kavakos and Vengerov. She’s approaching the levels of Perlman, Menuhin, Heifetz, and Oistrakh.
@actorboy2
@actorboy2 2 года назад
@@XYZeNxghtmxre she's 41 now, yes. But she started her university work at 10 and was learning high level repertoire. She had her first international concert at 16 with the Bavarian Radio symphony orchestra. She, for most of her life, was considered a prodigy... Or at least prodigy adjacent 😂

And he had TwoSet Violin on there for a very long time before the "Bass/Violin" battle. Also: Before he ever even mentioned violin or TwoSet, he would often drop TwoSet references like saying "practice 40 hours every day" and things like that. Many musicians do that. Davie's bass playing friend Charles Berthoud references TwoSet violin all the time. One of his latest videos was even about "playing the hardest violin solos but doing it on bass."

Pretty cool ^^ I could think of other ways to spice up Twinkle Twinkle, and this is on the simpler side of renditions.
