Ride Hill Farm cross country course with me and Pigeon on the helmet cam! A small non-technical course but not to be underestimated... What with the section alongside the A40 and the start that seems to encourange horses to nap! The movie is from Hill Farm's one day event (25.9.11, Oxfordshire)... We got 66.5% in the dressage and went double clear inside the time in the show jumping and cross country - what a super horse. 2nd place with a final score of 33.5 penalties! Roll on 2012 ;-)

Enjoyed the video, like how the horse was talked to and encouraged when she did what she was suppose to. She seemed eager and attentive and enjoying herself. :)

wow! your amazing! Thanks for doing these helmet cams, I've always wanted to do cross-country, but my mother never allowed it because of how dangerous she thinks it is, so I just do jumping, but I feel like I'm riding myself when I watch your videos. Thanks for uploading them!

From what I know about HJ (we don't have it in the UK) I think it is very different! XC is out in open fields with solid fences that don't fall down so easily. The key with XC is to have a good stong canter that you adjust the pace of when needed (slower for the trickier fences and faster in between so you cover the ground to get near the optimum time)... It also helps if you trust your horse ;-) Get a body protector and have a go - XC is the most fun!

Wow great job on 2nd place! And I love how you praise her after every jump whether it's bad or not, most eventers just say get up or they just kick you talk to her and never scold her. PS pidgey is to DIE for in those braids! :)

Nothing to stop you practising your xc seat in the school while you get more comfortable with jumping. Xc is great fun - I recomend it! Good luck with your riding :0

Thanks for the sub - I'll have a look at your channel! I use the gopro helmet camera. It's always top in the reviews and I love it. It comes with lots of different bits and bobs to help mount it, it's totally waterproof (handy if you come off in the water-jump or it's raining when you use it), has very easy controls and is generally one of my favorite gadgets!

I have the gopro HD helmet hero - I love it! It comes with loads of different mounting bits (I use a strechy strap that fits around my riding hat with the camera mounted to the side). Can't recomend highly enough!

Pigeon generally prefers going left but it does change from time to time as we work on getting her more comfortable on the right rein... Nothing stays the same for long with horses! :)

My guess is about 400 metres per minute. The course was timed at 350 metres per minute and we were too fast for most of it so 400 is my best guess! Thanks for watching and commenting.

Hi. Are you using the strechy strap to mount the camera on your helmet? I use that and pull the strap over the edge of my helmet around the back and sides a bit to make it extra secure. I always point the camera down more than feels right too - I hate it when I can't see the horse's head! Hope that helps - you can't beat trial and error!

Yep - that's the three day event format (show jumping last). In one day events you go cross country last. All very confusing I know. Hopefully I will do a three day event next year :)
