Mama used to make this with the first new potatoes of the year. We couldn't wait for her to tell us to check to see if we could get enough for supper. Tiny little red potatoes scrubbed, boiled and stewed with a lot of pepper and a knob of butter. A pork steak and some butter beans out of the freezer, corn bread. Nothing better.

My momma made these same potatoes sooo many times. We loved them when we had fresh corn and purple hull peas from the field. We never went hungry and ate home grown country food all my life. Best there is!!

Ms.Lori! I so enjoy watching your program! This reminds me of when my Precious Mom would fix these Stewed Potatoes, she like to do that when we had Fried Fish , Baked Rock Fish and her Homemade Biscuits! Still Love them but My PRECIOUS Daddy Always made his Cornbread and it would melt in your mouth, I like plenty of Butter on mine! I Too make Apples like you! They are so good! Thank you and Mr Brown for being so Caring! You are Loved! God Bless You Both!!

My Grandma, who basically raised me, called stewed potatoes “Mom’s potatoes” for her mom, my great grandma. Potatoes were sliced thin, covered with a little water and seasoned with bacon grease, salt and pepper. We traditionally had them with salmon croquettes and stewed tomatoes. Your cooking brings lots of good memories, Miss Lori. Wish I lived just down the road. 🥰

Oh, this brings back memories! My little Granny made this, but didn’t call it stewed potatoes. I’m so glad you made this video. She had a little red plastic shaker that she mixed the flour and water in and poured into the potatoes, and added onions to the potatoes. That was some good eating right there. Definitely saving this and making it real soon. She also made it with the tiny new whole potatoes from the garden sometimes.

Miss Lori, I bet I’ve eaten a ton of stewed potatoes. This is exactly the way I make stewed potatoes. My mama would also add a little bit of bacon grease and butter to hers. She always called stewed potato’s “slop taters”. I’m having pork chops for supper tonight and I’ll be making “slop taters”, cornbread and cold slaw. Those stewed apples look soooooooooooo good. Well, now I’m officially starving. God bless you and Mr. Brown.

We add "thickening" to potato's, squash, stewed tomatoes and green peas....I think it was a way to stretch the meal. And since we grew up in an orchard area, apples were used as a vegetable. My grandfather had an orchard and they ate apples at nearly every meal. It's what they had.

My mother taught me "stewed potatoes & onions." Peel & cut up potatoes into small chunks, rinse with water. Dice an entire onion, adding to potatoes. Add salt, pepper, butter or margarine. Cover with water 2" above mixture. Cook till done, then cook till almost a boil, then turn off heat. As the potatoes cool they will thicken. Lori, yours looked awesome. And the apples are the topping to this meal. 😊 Thanks for sharing.

My dad would make stew potatoes with the first crop of new potatoes was the best. He picked out the baby potatoes and make a huge potential with cornbread. We new after potatoes got plowed up and in the barn. We got two things the best meal every and than a afternoon at the creek hole for working the fields. Usually potatoes was 10 to 20 acres. So thanks for memories. Have a blessed day.

Although my mother wasn't from Arkansas, she married my father who was. On their wedding day, I've been told, my dad asked my mom to make cornbread every day. My mother kept that vow. Only when she couldn't, we had cornbread. She cooked very country because that was what they like and being in the great depression, things were scarce. I love the looks of those potatoes and that is what we're having for dinner tonight. I have three apples I need to use up and they are going to be on the plate too. Thank you, Miss Lori for the recipes you share with us. I'm 81 y/o, and some of these recipes I've never seen or even heard of, (born in CA, now living in UT). I love your sweet ways and the love I see between you and Mr. Brown. My Mr. is gone now, but he was from an OK family and would have loved these dishes. Thanks again for your efforts. We love you and Mr. Brown. God Bless you both.

I've made stewed potatoes but it's been awhile. Most of the time my kids would go ahead and mash them up and turn them into mashed potatoes so I just started making mashed potatoes instead. But now days I think they would love them stewed. I know I love them with lots of butter and seasoning. My late husband loved stewed, fried, baked apples. Just about anyway he could get them with cinnamon and brown sugar especially. I love them too. Hoping you all stayed safe during the storms and no damage was done to your homestead. Thank you for the delicious recipes too! I can't wait to make so many of your yummy recipes!

Thank you for showing how you make stewed potatoes! I'm almost 65 years old and lost my Mother about 5 years ago. Never thought to ask her how she made certain foods. Guess I thought she would be around forever. We grew up in Arkansas also! I've now buried all of my family and sadly have no one left to ask how Mom made certain foods. I am trying to incorporate more dried beans into our diet for fiber and cook more natural foods instead of using store bought canned. I cooked the best pot of pintos (my favorite!) with my left over Christmas ham. I also cooked some cornbread from scratch! It reminded me of suppers I had when I was a child. Mom would make pintos, stewed potatoes and cornbread for dinner a lot and served with hunks of onion. As a child, we would put the potatoes and bean on top of the cornbread along with their broth. So I tried my hand at remembering the stewed potatoes. I didn't do a bad job so this video helped me! Thank you for helping bring my past into the present again!

I just wanted to jump on here about two other recipes that I have made from your RU-vid channel. First was the butterscotch pie. My grandmother was the best pie maker ever and she gave me some of her recipes including my favorite her butterscotch pie and between four kids and moving I lost them it was heartbreaking. Every few years I would look up a recipe and see if I could recreate it.. no go. Then I came across your butterscotch pie. It looked right and I went straight in the kitchen made it right away and it tasted just like Grandma's you don't know how happy that made me. Thank you. Second dish was your baked bean recipe. My mother worked so I got store canned baked beans and I'm now convinced that is child abuse..lol. One night I tried your baked bean recipe and I did not realize what I had been missing. Absolutely delicious, your channel is a charm and I appreciate you greatly. Sincerely Stephanie.

We made our stewed potatoes with sliced potatoes and onions, cooked together till almost fork tender, add salt, pepper and butter. Add a couple Tlbs flour to 1/2 c milk stir to combine to dissolve any lumps and add to potatoes. Add any milk if you want but leave all your water in your pot. Just saute to the thickness you want and add more butter if you want. That's our version of them.

Always wanted go back to the old ways of life.country living would have been ideal for me,but now I am 75+yrs of age and live alone.it would be to hard for me to do so now..I was brought up on Long island,n.y. when it was potato farms, one little man owned store with limited food .later a a & p opened in a town 1/2 hr. Away.with a 5 g10 cent store next to it...that was a big putting for me & my mama.we went with her fried, they would stop for food ,mom would give me 5cents sometimes 10 cents,to buy what I wanted in the 5&10cent store.i always bought the bobsey twins books.yrs things back then we're 5&10 cents,y'all.but for mom,it was a sacrifice.money was tight back then for mom & dad. But I never knew till yrs later when I became a adult .they never let us know.but we never went without.back in the day that's what Mom's & Dad's did.we had a loving family.and that's what made us rich.,in love. Grandma lived with us.she was wonderful , passed away when I was 13.still think about her very often.still have her little coffee pot she made her black coffee in.it sits on my stove nowfirst thing I have always unpacked whenever I moved.also have the egg holder she use to feed me soft boil egg from. Both are way over 80 yrs old I have no one to leave them to,it hope who every may find them on my stove will keep them as antiques.but they will never know what he memories they hold.

It's been FOREVER since I've had fried apples (that's what we called them). Happy I have some to make. Thank you! God Bless!

I grew up eating these potatoes. My grandmother called them thickening potatoes. My mom made them with meal instead of flour and called them meal potatoes. They could get cornmeal easier than flour I think. They grew corn and had it ground at a gristmill. We are from Alabama.

Oh YUM! I think I'd like stewed potatoes. We went apple picking up to Marionville when I was a kid and Dad would always make us fried apples and sausage when we got home. It was always so good. I could almost smell your stewed apples! ❤️

This was my Daddy’s favorite potato. Sometimes if he got in from work before mom,he would make stewed potatoes. I always love a bunch of pepper in mine. I am not too fond of pepper, but love it in these. 💞💞Memories 💞💞We had a root cellar,Dad put out a huge garden and we usually had potatoes in the cellar.

Love it! Cooking for me is, comfort for the family. We have something similar to the stewed potatoes in Hungary , at the end we add sour cream and cook it with a bay leaf. Love you Mrs Lorri and Mr Brown!!❤️💐

I am laughing that so many people didn't now what stewed potatoes were. After you mentioned them I made them the next day. It had been ages since I had made them but they were as good as I remembered. We always had what you call stewed apples, but we called them fried apples. Always had them with pork. Thanks for the memories.

Next to butter, my favorite go to is my bacon grease jar! I can get my husband & son to eat most anything if I add bacon grease! Baked bacon makes beautiful grease too. Got a cheap strainer container for it too at Dollar Tree(well it’s the $1.25 Tree now)

We called this potato soup, because it has a lot of liquid. A vegetable cooked in a small amount of liquid is considered Stewed, where I come from. It's funny how the same food has so many names!! Dinner looks delicious!

I loved my grandmother's stewed potatoes, but we called them thickened potatoes. I don't know why her thickened potatoes were so much better than any I've ever cooked. I remember she almost always used red potatoes. They are just so soft and creamy. But thickened potatoes and cornbread is a fantastic meal.

I do my apples like you do but add more butter brown sugar and cinnamon with a little flour mixed with the brown sugar, that way it won't clump on me..we love them. Good Eatin" ~ Thanks for sharing with us! Terri

I have a friend from Louisiana who calls this Potato stew but she used the drippings and browning from frying up some Smoked sausage links like Ekrich or Hillshire farms and season according to liking and can thicken or not. It was fabulous!❤️
