My thanks to Mr. Hill for producing these videos so those of us who cannot visit these cemeteries in person can still see them and know where the celebrities are buried. Thanks, again.
A very well known Jewish cemetery where a lot of Hollywood celebrities are buried. I use to pass it everyday on the way to work but never went inside. Thanks for the short tour.
I live 3 minutes away from Hillside and have passed it many times over the years either going or coming from the Fox Hills Mall or going to West LA College.
You are so wrong. Al Jolson loved black people and used blackface to emulate his favorite black performers and also to help cover up his nervousness on stage. One time some black performers were denied entrance to a restaurant and when Al found out about it he invited them to dinner and gave a private performance for them. He never said anything bad about blacks as he sympathized with them since he was Jewish and was discriminated against also.
Fanny Brice (immortalized by Barbra Streisand in the movie "Funny Girl") worked with Al Jolson many times. After his death, she was asked how they got along offstage. She said, "I always hated the son-of-a-bitch." No fooling...
may Sherwood Schwartz indeed rest in peace, too bad he just couldn't get over Robert Reed, failed to understand or appreciate Reed's fine acting talent, Reed, as did others, basically helped sell the original pilot to ABC which in time, allowed Schwartz and his family to make millions.
My father ,my mother's parents ,cousins, and great aunt are buried there and many other famous people as well even Nell Carter ,who converted into Judaism . Milton Berle is also there ,not far from where my father is buried RIP
"Al Jolson's memorial reminds me of the "run-way" he had built at The Winter Garden Theater in New York City on Broadway, from the movie "The Jolson Story" with Larry Parks"!!! 😉😀😎💖
I'm having a constant question in my mind. Who pays for these tombs/palaces to the famous dead. Who is going to maintain them 100 years from now, 200. The world population is at 7.6 billion today what will it be just 80 years from now. There is a mausoleum in Rhode Island a big one and it's falling down. Is a mess and no one wants to rebury the dead strewn all about. I just think this type of burial has to and will come to and end when the money runs out and the common people won't want to pay to keep up tombs for people They never heard of. Look at John Waynes grave at Frank Sinatra. Much more modest much more sustainable. Just my thoughts.
