It’s truly sad that so many incidents in the past (over decades) have either: avoided accountability by flying under the radar; been excused under the banner of grace; had blame diverted. You can’t uncover sin without exposing people. We all should also honour and abide by the law of the land. Issues of this ilk are not new and they need to be confronted. The plea for silence is not healthy - rather it is the cause of continuing problems. Phil Dooley has a mountain to climb to set things right, and I feel his pain and integrity - but allowing excuses to perpetuate to soften the impact, will not help. It’s the very foundations of the church that need to be repaired / rebuilt - adding onto a structure built on sand will rectify nothing. Rapid growth and popularity altered the focus. So I pray the leadership involved will be willing to let go of excuses, willing to be transparent, willing to put the protection of the flock above the ‘brand’, willing to prioritise what they have been called to do: “feed My sheep”. I sensed that is Phil Dooley’s heart … sadly, I did not get the same assurance from the other participant. If we welcome God’s love we must also welcome His discipline.
Everybody looks out for themselves and no one sincerely serves the Lord's purpose and if you guys knew that where was the intercession in the restoration where was it because if it was there the Holy Spirit is faithful and he knows how to heal and restore but who intervened everybody was worried about themselves

The story of David restoration would never happened if not exposing is part of Christian’s faith. If you’re not opening up now, God Himself will open it. It will be tough, but that’s just the part of sanctification.
Agree with much of what you’ve said, but feel you left out a very important factor: restoration can’t even begin until our sin is acknowledged and utter repentance is shown. That means taking full responsibility: no excuses; no ‘I don’t remember; no fudging the details; no watering it down. Full accountability. Sanctification can’t progress until after we’ve sincerely sought and received forgiveness. As for ‘holding a congregation’ we need to examine whose kingdom we are working towards … God’s or our own? It is always dangerous to elevate any person - except our triune God.
All I’m hearing is excuse after excuse for the failure of a senior pastor. This was only revealed by the elders because it had been exposed and they had no choice but to give an explanation to try and get ahead of the narrative that’s out there. Then threats and manipulations are being made to get people to stay quiet. This is outrageous…!

What was needed here, is the truthfulness between a Snr Pastor and God. If his salvation was\is genuine, his repentance before God would have been followed by acts of contriteness, which is to sit down with his board and come clean, rather than to allow this toxicity of those who know but will cover-up, those who know but are gagged from speaking, and those who don't know but are being confused by rumors'. To me, that is a Snr Pastor who cares more about self rather than the flock.

I agree, this internal meeting should have stayed internal. It's not a cover up but the person spoken about is not present to defend what has been said. Right or wrong. Yes leaders are held accountable to a higher standard but it does not make them perfect. We ALL have sinned and fallen short of the glory from God. That is why we as the Church p need to pray for our leaders. This saddens me how the great work which have been achieved during the years are now blemished by these events. My thoughts and prayers are still with Hillsong.
The Bible is very explicit about holding leaders responsible. Your opinion is why there is so much sin in the camp with no accountability. Your opinion is why Frank Houston was allowed to run unchecked for so many years. Your opinion is why Brian thought it would be ok to go into a hotel room. Your opinion is why the entire melt-down in NYC with Carl Lentz happened. They cannot be respected to check themselves and hold themselves accountable. Being a pastor is already a very heady profession. Their circle is small and the "business" depends on their charismatic personality. Therfore, much is overlooked and those in leadership have difficulty holding those above them or equal to them responsible. Pray for them all you want. Frankly, they need all the help they can get. But thinking prayer is the only thing that will cover them and expose them if they wander astray is not only foolish but extremely dangerous. Every member of that church has the right to hear the allegations and this phone call. Brian himself admitted to all of it. Hillsong is suffering because egos outgrew God and got too big to fail.

It’s technically not a church either as the spiritual leadership is controlled by a non-spiritual board. The board acquires property and bank accounts of other churches that have agreed to join the Hillsong Inc brand. Real churches have spiritual leadership at the top under Christ.

There are many believers at Hillsong the same way it is at many most or possibly every Christian Church. Unfortunately Hillsong was perceived by them as "Their Church...the church they started and they grew" and therefore lost sight of the fact that the church grew because of its members and their financial support. Churches grow because of the people who are in the congregation, not because of those who are on stage. Brain & Bobby suffered from one thing: EGO. In my book EGO stands for Easing God Out. They became bigger than the church and they no longer SERVED their congregations but expected to be served by them. The only way Hillsong will ever recover from the slide that has happened will be to rebrand and start at grassroots again. They need to rebuild the faith of those who choose to worship with them. They reek of evil at present.
I think you’ve got the wrong end of the stick. What people need to see is acceptance of responsibility, no excuses, no dilution of the sin … utter and genuine repentance is needed (instead of ongoing rebuttal and challenges).

I use to attend and volunteer a few mega churches and their system does tend to de develop pedestals for certain very visible people. These churches must have a lot of accountability or the falls from grace will hurt many people both churched and unchurched.
I’ve been on the three most addicted anxiety medications and taken alcohol while on them and guess what? I’ve never done any of those things!!! So I hope anyone who buys that also believes I have some amazing real estate I can sell you…… 🙄

The elders have no governance in our church... What is a pastor other than an elder?? What he means is only some elders have governance in our church... Perhaps the person that leaked it knows that the church leadership is not being honest with their members and financial supporters. The way Hillsong, and many other Christian churches handle their pastor's moral issues is a systemic problem that needs to be exposed. It's called transparency. I know it's a hard concept for Christians, especially for those that put their church leaders on a pedestal above God (which happens more often than not). The Church that we know of today is a far cry from what Jesus taught his followers. When a church is operated more like a corporation, greed will inevitably set in regardless of their religious exemption status.

Angela, I'd also ask, how did Jesus deal with Peter? "Get behind Me Satan, you are an offence and a trap to Me." Jesus was brutally honest with those who should have known better. He was endlessly kind and merciful with those who didn't have a revelation of Him, but He required much more of His disciples and apostles. Ask James, Peter, Judas, John, and others the word give us accounts of. Whom He loves He chastenes! You have to take the full counsel of God's word, not just the warm and fuzzy bits.
The examples you have cited were all unsaved people who didn't have a revelation or relationship with Jesus. You have to stop enabling bad behaviour, sometimes immoral behaviour and unbiblical behaviour just because it's the Houston's!! The body of Christ doesn't need celebrity pastors!
