Darn it Ronin! Just as I got relaxed and content with my Himalayan the way it is, you have to come along with a video like this which is just full of reasons and rationale to do even more to it. I just managed to tell myself that I don't need the K&N filter setup when you put the new silencer on and record the audio. Damn. I want it. I want it all. So I guess when my pension check arrives I'll do some ordering. Another great video for all us Himalayan riders.
I installed the DNA filter and plate recently on my Himmie, love the roar it has at full throttle now! I also have the Booster Plug (2017-2021 version works on 2022 US) and am looking at the Hitchcock header next!
Just added the Stage 2 Cam this weekend from Hitchcock...OMG..this bike just got better..its what it should be now...best mod so far...and I have done pretty much all of them to get all I can out of this motor..not going to bore it though. Keep on Keeping on..Love the Vids. Ol' Man
'20 Himalayan - booster plug, dna filter/intake, and delkevic exhaust. Pulls strong up hills now, and sounds great! Also impressed with the shinko 700 series tires I had mounted. Really enjoy riding this bike.
I know I’m listening to this thru my computer but it sounds so much better. I also didn’t realize how much bigger the old exhaust was. Wow, completely different look.
I did a poor man's upgrade on my air box until I can get the DNA upgrade. I realized that when I get the upgrade I would not need the stock cover. I took my Dremel and cut a hole in the stock cover inside the lip that inserts into the air filter so all the air still goes thru the filter but straight in. I can tell this shadetree mod makes the bike pull a lot stronger climbing hills and when I crank on the throttle I feel a little surge I didn't feel before. I have a nice cruiser and if I had to only keep one bike it would be the Himalayan. It's my first choice everyday run around bike.
Thanks Ronin! the improved air filter unit and for me, a Delkevic can are on the list for Winter projects. I also need to install the Anti Gravity LI battery. The muffler & battery will drop the weight between 13-15lbs off the bike too! I'll add a PowerTronics unit next year as well. The problem is, we also acquired a new TW200, and that little bike's such a kick to ride, so light & easy to flick around in the dirt compared to the Himi, it's tough to pry my backside off that saddle!
I was just in your area last month for the AMA Vintage Days at Mid-ohio Sportscar Course. My buddy and road all backroads from Charlotte NC are to Rivers Bend Campgrounds near the Ohio River then up the triple nickel to I-70 to AMA Hall of Fame then on to Mid-Ohio. I'm from Cleveland originally so a Buckeye at heart. Ohio is a gorgeous State to ride in, especially your area. It's some of the prettiest farmlands and old towns to rid through.
@@destickert1307 dealer said no worries on the exhaust. Something like the fuel x might be an issue but like you say, change it back if you have a problem.
I sold my 9th and final Harley last fall and I've been watching RE closely since about 2019. I'm definitely sold on the brand, my biggest issue is I can't decide between a Himalayan or an INT 650 I can convert into a scrambler. Now that the Super Meteor is so close, I can't ignore my roots and pull the trigger on anything until I ride one of those, they are beautiful!
I fitted a k&n filter to my guzzi california, opened up the air box a bit and fitted straight through mufflers, the sound from intake and exhaust increased dramatically and there seemed to be a noticeable improvement in performance but I really think the bike needs to be re mapped on a dyno to do the job properly. Your himmy sounds really nice with that muffler!
Awesome upgrades mate, I’m about to do the same upgrade except it’ll be a Lextek muffler. I’m also looking at getting the Shinko 800’s for my Himalayan, mainly for rough dirt roads, muddy tracks and beaches. Cheers 😎
Excellent job and pretty... probably your gas mileage should go up at least 2 to 4 miles per gallon... at least that's what I experience when getting rid of just the restrictive air filter.
So I’ve tried the open intake with no other mods and it felt lacking in power at speed… I suspect air flow over the top causing pressure drop. Great video, enjoyed watching thanks!
Just a couple of horsepower makes a big difference in these small displacement bikes. I saw a video of a Himalayan with a performance cam and it made a huge difference.
G'day Ronin from Australia, that's a sweet sound from your Himalayan, however the sound from my Interceptors twin pipes from S&S would blow you away, hope you have as much fun riding as l do, cheers mate, Neil 🤠.
Just got home from an eleven hundred mile stay in the highlands of Scotland, two up with luggage. This is the second time the wife and I have chosen to take our Himmy to Scotland ahead of one of the much more powerful motorcycles in my stable and guess what , the Himmy is going again next year. I have a DNA air filter on my Interceptor and it really makes a difference; so defo now gonna get a DNA air filter for our Himmy. I too would like a lighter and slightly noisier exhaust, not sure what to do, maybe. Lovely vid Jeff. Great how to at the beginning and we could all see and hear the fun you were having on the test ride. One question. Does the Himmy have a learning ECU. So, after fitting the air filter and pipe; do you have to start the bike up and let it tick over for a few minutes without touching the throttle so the bikes ECU takes into account the new parts fitted? Thanks again for the awesome vid man. Ride safe Neil
I installed the Delkevic 8” Carbon Pipe and the DNA on my 2023 Scram 411. I also put in a lithium battery and removed the side badges and the mounting pipe. My Scram weighs in at 379 pounds with a half a tank of gas. A huge difference from the day I brought it home. Mine truly sounds like a super thumper. Almost as good as my Honda XL600 with the same pipe
Hey Ronin! Just really starting to watch your channel. Great content and good communicator. i started mine 6 months ago...nothing but fun!!! We kinda have a similar path, I ride a HD low rider S and am 4 months into my RE Himalayan purchase. I got it as a commuter and to someday do the TAT. Love love love this bike. You have to ride one to understand the simplicity and fun of the ride. Are you still liking the BAAK muffler add on? I'm wanting to do the air cleaner and get a little more beefy sound out of her.
Cool channel. Just subbed. I saw something on the tube a while back where a fella had 3 or 4 bike pistons from bikes which all had K&N air filters. Every piston was scored on the inlet side. Can't recall if he provided specifics about usage, filter cleaning schedule etc. It's possible the bike owners never cleaned or oiled their filters. Or even realised that was necessary. Got any thoughts on the scarring issue?
I have a question about the BAAK muffler. If you sight down the inside is there a baffle in the way or is it a straight clear shot? I loved the looks of that shortie exhaust they made for the 650. If I hadn’t gone with the high pipes that would have been my choice. Also, traditionally a “stage one” is muffler, intake and a tune. Are you running any kind of tuner? Dynojet or Fuel X?
25th June was a sad day for me. My 2021 RE Himalayan was sideswiped by a a motorist whilst I was passing needless to say the bike was damaged and so was I. My insurance wrote her off a month later. The good news is, I bought her back from the insurance expecting to pay about 5 or 6K in parts to repair the damage. I was wrong If I replace the tank which has two minor dents in the side where the racks hit the tank, then I'm in for about $1700 all up. If I get my friend who rebuilds motorcycles to repair the tank, he quoted $300 to suck the dings out and respray the tank and replace the decals. Needless to say he going to do the repairs to the tank. The rest is just bolt off and replace. Right now I am hold up was a massive abscess on my leg caused by the impact in the collision. Soon I'll be mobile again and I be back riding. Thanks for the great videos man.
Nice. Might try a Lextec on mine. Has a removable baffle and is cheaper. BAAK says that silencer is not compatible with Euro 5 models. Will probably fit but may not meet Europe's emission standards. But it's made in France.
You can buy a DNA filter and bellmouth cover for the Meteor. Not sure about the exhaust. I've seen bikes burn their valves, but they had no mufflers or air filters at all, and were subjected to miles of high speed.
I'm also curious if the new muffler has a spark arrestor. I don't know how many exhaust sparks cause fires, I suspect few. I am more interested in legal compliance than fire safety.
I just ordered the baak exhaust. Awesome video Ronin. I ask baak about the spark arrestor they wrote me back stating it already has a spark arrestor system in it.
@@OlManRonin coool bananas🍌🍌, love your channel man, I really like the Royal Enfield's, and your helping me like them even more, cheers for all the great content, ☮️❤️🍕 T-Bone
Careful with that open plate, water completely filled my crankcase after a heavy rainstorm through the airbox with that plate. Removing the AIS, and swapping the breather to the higher position is supposed to help, but the filter will still get soaked.
The stock filter flows more than enough air for the Himmi even with the aftermarket exhaust. You could have accomplished most or all of what the K&N setup does by simply drilling out the airbox cover, after removing the intake-horn part. Or for that matter, just pull the entire airbox itself and install a pod filter.
No adjustment to the fueling? Seems like you might be leaving a lot of power gains behind, not to mention making sure you're not harming the engine running in a lean condition.
@@OlManRonin .. You didn't elaborate when you said "first part of it" 😉 .... Its incredible how restricted current engines are, opening up flow is important, but fueling is imperative... BTW: Your Himalayan has some of the best sound improvement I've heard in long time form a slip-on, the Baak really gave the bike voice.
Most definitely until my fuel x pro is installed. But its really not that big of an issue to me right now. After my initial test ride, I parked it to install the Fuel X Pro. Don't worry all will be revealed soon
