Happy Birthday to baby HamRib 😆🎉🎉🎉🎉 thanks for sharing your work and taking the time to make these videos! You're one of my favorite RU-vidrs! Have a great day and hope your son has the best birthday! 😊😊😊
I've never experienced mold in my paints and I've had so many sets for years. I'm wondering if the quality of water has to do with it. I live in Portland so we have humidity and fair/rainy weather but I know our water quality is some of the best in the country so many that plays a role if everyone else uses tap water 🤔
i am not trying to criticise you but how come you don't clean your palette knife in between colors? do you not mind the colors mixing and becoming muddy? do you not care?
I love the Himi/miya gouache! Its not super grey to me but yes my Holbein are brighter but I have so little precious ridiculously expensive Holbein! Where I live in Canada (using the best sales only) I'd say Holbein (for me personally is not THAT much better than Himi/miya. Let me Explain. Holbein is at best 1.5 to 3 times better. Lets agree its only a bit better and Himi can do the stuff and amazing! I find it really easy to use personally and I often can get bright colours. Also use with my other watercolours and gouache! BUT here's the TRUTH the Holbein Gouache is Literally 11 times more expensive!!!!! Its NOT 11 times better! Basic math! I was barely even using my precious expensive holbein and some even started drying in the tubes! Do you know hoaw much fun/art and how many paintings very big and small and all sizes I've been making like crazy since getting (and continuing to get more) of my Himi/Miya gouache!!?! I'll tell you its MORE than 11 times the artwork and fun I've been having! Probubly at least 50 times! As in I did one precious gouache holbein art before and now I've painted 50 with the Himi/Miya! Litterally! And they keep going on sale when you check and just jump on the deals and get them when they are the best deal for your region/country! I also premix colours and re-wet with a mist spray (or eyedropper some water) in conjunction to using fresh, do mixed media, mix watercolour and gouache; and use my dr. ph martins liquid concentrated Hydrus to add MORE colour vibrancy into custom Himi gouache (but I already have those.) And I advise trying Makeup brushes with painting (especially gouache) AND using different paper including toned and coloured cardstock! Oh and to not waste precious Holbein (hardens into useless rock over time learned the hard way- Wasting 1/5 of my already ridiculously overpriced gouache....) Add in vegetable glycerin or honey (just a touch to avoid shine) and mix with a wire or tooth pick. Then they will re-wet forever like a dream (its a bit tricky because you need to add enough but not too much) Still really helped me. Also invest in sticky magnets (dollar store), empty half and full pans (bulk on Amazon is a great way) make custom pallets from recycled tins such as dollarstore tins for watercolour or coloured pencils, etc., tins that pastel/coloured pencils come in, etc. Then you can pre-wet the paints (closing the lid to help more) use an eyedropper. To prevent molding Spray and mix in some isopropyl alcohol! I have had no issues with my Himi/Miya gouache since mixing some in immediately after opening and spritzing some on top at least once per week. You can also use distilled water to spritz the wet paint tubs to further discourage mold. Have fun everyone! I hope my tips help people.
Omg same!!! My Holbein that i squeezed into pans turned into rocks. They kindnof rewet and give some tint but i dont get what Hamrib says about getting the same consistency... on the other hand, the Talent she doesnt like rewets much better for me than the Holbein..
Thank you so much for re-reviewing these now having more experience! I've used these and the Arteza gouache, but every time you use your holbein gouache in your videos I think of upgrading. Really great to hear the difference from the less expensive paint perspective as well. Interesting to see the immediate difference in your process with these, and still a great result.
Interesting, I've had my set for around 6 months (or more) and it's never molded. I use it for a lot of things but mostly painting pet portraits on these little paper boxes or the larger wooden ones. I do have to say that I also noticed how weak the reds and blues are, red normally takes over a mix with just a little touch but I can safely add some and retain my mix.
great job with the ruffles 😀 I have the Arrtx jelly gouache, got a set for cheap so i could practice so then i dont feel like im completely wasting supplies
This painting looks beautifully realistic 😍 himi gouache is a bit more pricey in the uk but definitely cheaper than holbein too. I also found them very easy to use, good to hear you had fun and enjoyed using them
Your videos have finally convinced me to buy gouache, I only use acrylic and pens so we'll see how it goes. Thank you for inspiring me to use new mediums ❤️
Gorgeous painting. I'm so happy to watch you paint "Alice in Wonrderland", I really like the visuals of the movie, the colours are so pretty. I'm also quite lost with gouache ; I actually use some cheap gouache which doesn't reactivate at all once it's dry. The results are ok but I'm still looking for buying myself in the future some better gouache. I may give a try to these. Also, happy birthday to your son I guess =P
How has the arrtx set of nine been? I already have the himi set of 18. Ive been wanting to use gouache more but it’s been intimidating to use the set I have 😅
So himi has a mold spray that you can spray on to keep mold from growing. I’ve also heard that clove bud oil would also work. I’ve not used the clove bud oil so I’m not sure if you have to dilute it or how well it works.
Thank you for this honest review about the good and not so good points of Himi gouache. It's a fascinating medium that I am just now discovering. God bless you and all those you love. Have a great day!
My 1st set got mold in it, but the set I have now has dried out and I think I'm gonna keep it that way. My artxx set has dried out too. Love your videos, BTW ❤️
Been here since 30k subs , I’m happy that your channel is getting known and growing. You’re one of my favorite artist, btw what happened to your first set of himi Miya gouache ?
I love your artwork and your style! These Miya gouaches are my favourite brand to use, I find they need a lot of water on the mixing palette. Thank you for your inspiration!
