Slt 🙂 grand dieu quand je vois comment ils appuient sur les pédales je me dis un monde est passé depuis , j' ai connu cette période ou mon plus souple c'était 42/23 avec à l' avant un 52/42 et à l' arrière 6/7 vitesse mon + petit 13 mon + gros 32 et pourtant ça passé , la force de ka jeunesse

on arrêtait pas les courses pour de la neige à l'époque... pareil au Giro 1988 (Gavia sous la neige). Aujourd'hui on se met à l'arrêt à la moindre grippe. C'était une autre époque, quand nous étions encore des hommes, et encore l'occident.
They were stockier and they might have done more weight training in the off season. They were bigger in the early season races like the spring classics in March and April and then at the end of the Tour de France in July they were quite a lot thinner for obvious reasons.
Not sure how much weight training they would have done - Hinault was notorious for not training much off season. But I suspect that many more of them would have been doing cross-country skiing in the days before turbo trainers and Mallorca training camps in December.
Due to the current practice of neutralizing stages during inclement weather, heroics like this , and Andy Hampsten in the ‘88 Giro, will never occur again.
