For those who think the wagons/cars in the animation are tankers, well they aren't. They are cylindrical hoppers which are used to carry grain. (I'm not including the covered hopper).
This wreck landed Canadian National in boiling hot water. They knew that the engineer was at risk of a heart attack or a stroke, but they didn’t lay him off.
That's very compelling and I'd like to blow my own horn about this topic, regarding the way that I see it... I'm sure the public reaction made quite an impact. Seems to me when a company's decisions collide with common sense, the inevitable result is what brings that company's fortunes crashing down which derails public confidence, thus causing stock prices to take a hit in the process.
I don’t know why they don’t use cabooses anymore. Its kinda sad cuz its alike a sign that said HERE THE TRAIN ENDS and it also has a lot of nostalgia. Also I usually call it A Brakevan.
@DaPercyboi The caboose was replaced with an E.O.D which, if remember correctly, stands for Electronic Operation Device, which is controlled from the lead locomotive. It also will initiate the emergency break should a problem occur.
This is why we now have DSD pedals. If you dont touch the controls for 60 seconds a alarm sounds which means you have to take your foot off the pedal and immediately re apply. Which before would only apply the breaks if you removed your feet from the pedal. This is standard across most countries now. In the UK we even have TPWS at high risk signal locations which protect a point of conflict with another train or a level crossing for example. If you approach the grids before the signal above the trip speed approaching a red signal the brakes are automatically applied. These grids are also at locations with significant reduction in the speed limit. This stops the train speeding round tight curves or points.
Canadian National's train no 413 was colossal via rail no 4 train the combined super continental and skeena was also big the two trains were face to face the trains collided head on into each other when suddenly DISASTER STRIKES!
There 2 flaw in CN 413 First the engines of CN were gp38-2w 2 sd40-2 and second there were suppose 35 hopper 7 flatbed 45 hopper 20 tanker 6 more grain not all grain cars
I get the bit with the locomotives but the train is so damn long and also behind the locomotives were the grain hoppers. So that's why you could only see grain hoppers in most of the video. Sorry one more thing, even in the shot showing the freight train going through the switch the point of view also makes it harder to see any other wagon. And since rail cars are long and there are thirty five of those grain cars it's going to be harder to count how many there are in the pixelated mess in the distance. I just said that to waste my time. 👍
The freight train. It was supposed to stop on a siding and give way to the passenger train. Investigators concluded that the crew of the freight train were suffering from fatigue and likely fell asleep.
@@adambahmi9194 it was meant as a joke. Of course I have seen 1 or 2 documentaries on this head-on, and I know full well the casualties, the injured, and what happened to Ricky Lynn gates.
@@florjanbrudar692 I wasn’t laughing because people died, I was laughing because of a grain car which went on top of train car, I wasn’t laughing because someone is dead, there’s a difference between laughing at death & laughing at something comedic, And it just so happened that some lost their lives aswell
