Enjoyed your video and tips while demonstrating the moves. If I may make a suggestion, consider wearing a color other than black while demonstrating on a black table so we can see the movements. Otherwise great video!
So I want to thank you for this video and how well it was put together ! I have been suffering from low left back and hip pain and an mri revealed I had trochanteric hip bursitis. After spending a small fortune on PT and a cortisone injection as well as trying numerous RU-vid videos, I had little to no relief. Your upload has really made a difference and I have following it twice a day for a week and finally have some relief. I can't thank you enough and I sincerely hope more folks find your channel and follow your stretches & exercises.
Thank you so much Paul! I’m so glad this video is helping and I’m so grateful you took the time to comment and let me know! Your words inspire me to keep doing what I’m doing! Thank you!
Did it really help for you?? Do you still feel some pain? Please tell me if its better or worse haha, i just want some hope that this pain can go away!
I really like your exercises and the video. However, you are using the verb "lay" incorrectly over and over. "Lay" requires an object whereas "lie" does not. Check with your 8th grade English teacher . It would make your videos better. 😊
I like how you do the exercises with us in real time. The exercises have given me almost immediate relief and my body is slowly but steadily gaining ease and strength. Many thanks.
Thank you, I particularly liked the way you showed all the mucles that would be used in the workout. That's very helpful, and I haven't come across other videos which do this.
Oh my goodness you have helped me so much! My acupuncturist, chiropractor, and podiatrist were great as well as PT but your video has made a huge difference. 60 and torn 2 ankle tendons because my mind still thinks I am 30. The injury caused an uneven gait which caused hips to go out of alignment.I love that you dress conservatively and professionally. Very polished. I’m so excited to be making progress and it is because of you! And I smile while working 😉
This is great. I am not a senior yet but with fibromyalgia and hip bursitis I have tried several videos that have been too tough for now for me. This is perfect for me to start with.
Thank you so much Doctor, i really hope this exercises would help me with my Hip pain, I have been doing then for the past two days, and yes hope by the end of the week maybe would be starting to jog a bit.
How did your aunt learn she had the hip bursitis after surgery? My doctor refuses to say I might have one. He never physically examined me after surgery.Instead, he told me to take naproxen and try PT.
Thank you Katie. I've just had an xray and it showed osteo-arthritis/bursitis and I've tried everything ice, heat valtaren. Nothing worked I just did your routine and I do feel better.
Thank you for your video. Some Dr say NO stretching especially no crossing legs. Why is there such a big difference of opinion? Also, is it bad to lift objects.
Yeah so there’s different practitioners which have different expertise which can lead to different opinions. Also, crossing the legs to stretch or find space is different than crossing the legs while sitting which can lead to increased tightness/pain. Ultimately, if a movement is causing you pain (no matter who recommends it) you should ditch that exercise/movement. I would say it’s just important to lift with good form whether someone has bursitis or not- so making sure bending ones legs, not rounding in the back, and breathing while lifting- hope that helps! And as always, check in with your provider before doing any activity 😊
i may or may not be in my early 20s (lol) but I'm definitely in bad shape because i have numerous types of chronic pain and it is sometimes difficult to do more advanced exercises. so i come to exercises for seniors to help me in the meantime.
Hi Dr. Katie I hope you are well! Do you have sitting or floor exercises? I still have a torn tendon and need to give it some rest but trying to keep fit. Thank you for all that you do!
Oh no! I hope you feel better and heal soon! Here’s the video I have for chair exercises ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_F5kIqeY8ZA.htmlsi=U4IONHW9fwCmgZ57
Sounds like what I deal with , I feel the affected hip has gotten short since I hang over it and I can't really stand straight anymore, I do stretch but I'm not sure it's healing, I also have arthrosis in the hips but pain is only on left. The area on hip can be painful and sensitive to touch also
Thanks so much for your comment! I would recommend seeing your physical therapist if things don't seem to be healing. It may be that you have a true bursitis and really what you need is rest. Also, it could be that strengthening, rather than stretching is the key. Check with your PT and see what they say, thanks again!
Doc recommended light stretching but we have decreased mobility, so most of these aren’t possible. Any recommendations for an elderly person who had decreased mobility before bursitis (now it’s 1000 times worse) she’s had PT and was DC’d. We’ve been continuing the work at home and a mini squat exercise caused her bursitis.
With true bursitis resting first is really important. So it may be that the rest period for the legs needs to be a little longer. Once the pain is calmed down exercises that focus on increasing strength in the hips will hopefully help. As always, make sure to check with your provider or seek out a new provider if you’re still experiencing no relief
My doctor said fluid around the bursa is the reason for hip bursitis and there is no way to get rid of the fluid. Why don't all these exercise instructors mention that. I have done every exercise in the book and NOTHING helps.
From what I understand the bursa is inflamed because the other muscles around it have decided to not work like they should. Therefore the tendon that floats over the bursa causes inflammation of the bursa. The exercises are to wake up the muscles that are not doing their job which will allow the bursa to heal. It took awhile to get here and it will take awhile to recover. If you completely stop then it will get worse. Good luck in your pursuit of health ♥️
Do you recommend massage therapy for a sore inflamed bursa on the hip? How do you reduce the pain? I assume ice and ibuprofen. Does the muscle need to be rubbed to help pain go away? Thanks
So each person is really different in terms of what helps with pain so I can’t make any specific recommendations in terms of medications. I prefer ice to heat to help with inflammation. For some people stretching and touch can help to reduce pain as does things like TENS units but this is more general to pain rather than bursitis. I would recommend talking with you PT and/or primary care for specific recommendations to address your pain
Thankyou This hip bursitis video is on my daily list of exercises now! Thank you ever so much. My hip is so much better now and I plan to keep it that way by daily using this video. @@TheSeniorCenteredPT
I would definitely talk with your doctor about that. Let them know your concerns- it's possible there's something that can be done to help with those conditions
Hi Mike! With hip labrum tear, you want to focus on hip strengthening so yes, some of these may help. In general, side lying work, side steps with or without resistance, and bridges are exercises generally recommended for hip labrum tears. Of course, I always advise anyone to speak directly with their own physical therapist before starting an exercise program.
Thanks for your comment! If they’re irritating please don’t do them and talk with your physical therapist. Also, planks can be really challenging and also a great exercise that can be built up from standing to angled to over the floor so they’re an exercise I recommend people work up to or utilize in the position that’s best for their body
No amount of stretching or movement has helped relieve my trochanteric pain syndrome. I get terrible burning, electric pain down the entire length of my femurs on the outside. It's brutal.
@@TheSeniorCenteredPT that's part of the problem, though. When I rest it too much I'm in pain when I move. I feel like I'm so worn out all i can do is cope with the pain. It's a vicious cycle. 😢
@@SKYCHICK__ that is just awful! I would definitely check back in with your PT and primary care doctor to see if there’s another route they suggest. Sending you healing thoughts!
A sensitive point, but…..a DPT is not an MD. And while technically it is a “doctor” degree, it is not a PhD, or MD. In the health care context, patients who do not know this could be misinformed by referring to yourself as “dr.” It is a recent development in the history of higher ed. it is not even a research degree. As an epidemiologist and infectious disease doc, as well as a professor-and medical ethicist-I think that you ought to reconsider referring to yourself as “doctor.” Were it not for the issue of unintentionally misleading patients, I would say “sure. You wanna call yourself doctor, go ahead,” even though the degree is not a medical doctorate, nor is it a research doctorate (PhD). But it is wrong.
Thank you for your comment and the opportunity to ensure my audience is informed. As a doctor of physical therapy, I am allowed to use the term doctor as I also indicate that I am physical therapist in my title/credentials. A DPT is a clinical doctorate and many people don’t know that earning it requires about 7 years of schooling from undergrad through graduate school. I’ve had numerous clients think it’s a 2 year degree like an associates and it’s more extensive than that. I appreciate the concern for maintaining the respect of the medical community and patient/client understanding. The Senior Centered PT team shares that aim. Thank you!
I’m in the medical field and have also earned the title of doctor for my profession. However the whole point of this video is to help patients who are in pain. MD’s and Western medicine have failed patients in the area of pain control and relief for years. That’s why we are here on this site looking for alternatives to Western medicine.
Yes! So with true hip bursitis you really want to rest first and foremost. For some people, their hip pain may not be true bursitis. Whether you need stretching or strengthening or both is truly dependent on the individual so it’s best to consult with your PT about that
Thought I had hip bursitis but fell broke femur stem turns out must have been a weakening of that stem Dexa two weeks after anterior hip replacement osteoporosis. Eating high protein counting calcium intake. On Aldenonate no other prescriptions.
Oh wow, how scary/painful that must have been to break your femur! I hope you’re feeling better after your replacement. So important to keep strengthening your bones as advised by your doctor and physical therapist!
