It’s not necessary for him to be what you call diversified in different styles. Unfortunately many of us are not diversified in our acceptance or understanding of different types of music. Malakai has a beautiful voice for singing choral music that evokes emotion in people who can appreciate his talent.

HMalakai is supremely talented and should be free to follow whatever style of music he gravitates to. I am sure many expected him to... rap.. Hi. There’s a long tradition of choral singing in the UK and so Malakai is classified as a choral singer and not an opera singer. Pie Jesu is well known to the UK audience and was dedicated by Andrew Lloyd Weber to his deceased father. The lyrics then with the weight of mourning but delivered by this angelic voice. It is considered by many to be a great privilege to be selected as a choral singer in a cathedral and to be chosen to deliver this requiem.
I think he's very talented the fact that he sings in that way tells me he can sing gospel soul jazz whatever he chooses to do and he's already more successful than most people standing on that stage doing that

Just the fact that he was singing a totally unexpected genre of music made it that much more incredible of a performance. Even though Oprah isn't my usual choice of music (its too sweet, it puts me to aleep lol) no one can deny that its beautiful. I think its great showing that a particular race, can be well versed in any kind of music.

The boy has a voice of an angel. It’s not quite opera since it’s a religious song and Malakai has a Boy’s Choir voice, singing in cathedrals. One day, I’d love this to play at my funeral.
Hate to break the news to you but Opera is by far the toughest genre. It takes much more breath control than any other genre . Most people could not master this and on top of it this angel picked one of the hardest songs you could ever pick meaning he took no short cuts
This is Malakai's GENRE of music & he is excelling with it! There is no need for him to try to BE anything other than what he is. His GIFT suits his genre. He may never be comfortable performing R&B/Pop music - any more than an R&B/Pop singer would be comfortable performing Malakai's genre. He is well rounded within his genre, & gettin' better every day!!
I think the lead singer of Disturbed was classically trained similar to Malakai. David Dariman is a Baritone and Malakai is a countertenor, I believe, but when you are that trained to control your voice, you can sing anything you want. Love the reaction♥
Malakai began singing as a chorister at St George’s Cathedral, Southwark. He attends The Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School in London and sings with the school’s acclaimed Schola Cantorum, under the direction of Scott Price. English Anglican choirs begin around age 7 and progress over the years to higher and higher levels. Boys sing until their voices change whereupon they are ‘mustered out’, whereas girls can continue through high school. If you ever hear a child, even after they have become an adult and gone on to other pursuits, you can still hear the vocal training in their voice. It remains with them forever. Our daughter sang in an Episcopal choir under the aegis of the RSCM (Royal School of Church Music) in the United States for 12 years, reaching their highest level of vocal achievement. The program allowed her to sing as a guest chorister at Salisbury Cathedral, the oldest girls choir in the world, at St Paul’s Cathedral in London as well as the first children’s choir to sing at the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. It was a highly disciplined and rigorous program and those who sang therein learned attention to detail, commitment and a pursuit of excellence that prepared them for endeavors far beyond the singing of religious hymns. It is the musical equivalent of the U.S. Marine Corps for children. If your child is given the opportunity to join such a program, embrace it. He/she, and you, will be well rewarded.
He already has an album out. And is being helped by Andrew Lloyd Webber one of the most powerful people in music. He's 14 now and still goes to public school.

It’s clear you don’t understand the significance of his performance. He was singing opera. He has since met Andrew Lloyd Webber (who wrote the song, among many others #PhantomOfTheOpera), sung at The Royal Albert Hall to sold out audiences including the royal family, and literally sings in 963Hz Solfeggio Frequency Ais - known as the Divine Harmony. He deserves much more respect and credit than you gave him.
I appreciate the apology but it should be to Malakai. I don't think anyone is personally offended just shocked by your reaction, firstly as a musical critic you ought to know that he does have the potential to diversify genres because he has the vocal range and control. And while you did acknowledge that he was good and talented it was lukewarm at best and then you gave more time talking about frivolous things like the slo-mo, the background music after the performance, the judge Bruno who was crying, the audience who was crying. The magnitude of the performance by 13-year-old Malakai was in a sense disrespected. I think that is what your viewers are shocked by including me. But I do appreciate that you have taken the time to apologize but it is misdirected. You missed an opportunity on your platform as someone from another genre to really appropriately hail up/ big up an artiste who has performed excellently even though he might not be from your accustomed genre(s).

I can think of pop, R&B, and soul to name a few genres... tenor in a boy-group: he doesn't have to go that high like what he is doing in opera. He can hit the high notes and should be able to sing many famous artist songs
A rap artist is well-rounded? P-L-E-A-S-E! Beyonce is well-rounded? NF is well-rounded? Taylor Swift is well-rounded? They have their niche, their genre. Its a shame that you were critical of his gift and not more supportive. Malakai was booed by someone in the audience when he was once performed, his mother said. But, thank God, it didn't shake his confidence. I thank God for his gift. He has sang at the Royal Albert Hall to packed audiences that marvel at his vocal ability. They love him, they've received him, encouraged him. May your negative comments that he's not "well-rounded" don't reach him. How many young Black teens have a voice like that, that are welcomed into the world of opera at such a young age. His first CD, GOLDEN, is a Masterpiece and has sold out, and he's signed with Universal record label, the same label of Pavarotti. May God bless this young man. And thank you, GOD, for Malakai and for allowing us the privilege of hearing this talented young teen.
While still a huge adjustment, it's much easier for classically trained musicians to learn mainstream styles than it is for mainstream musicians to learn classical. I'm more interested in what his voice is going to sound like in the next year or two. That F# isn't long for this world.

I don't think I will watch you again. Malakai has the most heavenly voice I've ever heard. I think you need to be more diversified rather than suggesting that he needs to be. Do you even know about this song. What it is written about. You should look it up. You need to be more humble and that would help. With his range and ability, he can sing anything, check out Jackie Evancho when she won as a 9-year-old kid singing opera and now as an adult, she's broken from that mold and her range allows her to sing anything, why because of amazing talent and voice control. Right now Malakai is enjoying performing at the pinnacle of the craft where most with diversity will never be able to sing at his frequency and probably won't be bothered to learn another language in order to perform. I don't follow you so I am not sure when you comment on Hip Hop artists whether the first thing you worry about is whether they can do other genres. So that was a surprising comment right out of the gates. In any case, the industry doesn't really work that way. And having an ability is different from success, which depends on a number of other factors. But let's say you are right, however, you came to that assumption. Have a little humility and just acknowledge to yourself that given the excellence of the kid's performance, you choose to focus your remaining comments on frivolous things like background music, slo-mo, the judge crying, and the audience crying rather than on the artiste's performance or abilities. It is for this reason that your critics here have surmised that you lack the capacity to comment on this genre because you are not familiar with it. So lacking the cultural depth in this genre you choose to comment on the frivolous and tangential things. I guess the expectation was that as a musical critic, you would comment more on the performance that was done so purely and excellently. What is interesting is that in all of the many reaction videos that I have seen this is the first one that didn't truly acknowledge Malakai but spent more time on tangential matters. But to each his own and if you're not open to the resounding feedback, then you might want to stay in your lane and just do reaction videos for the genres that you are familiar with and respect. Sorry I just stumbled upon your channel and I just don't think you get it. Maybe you didn't intend to sound the way you came across. But that's probably just me being charitable. Because I don't want to believe anyone could possibly listen to this fantastic young mans voice and be anything other than blown away. You come across very judgemental and ignorant regarding real music. This was not opera as you mistakenly called it. Rather it was Choral music. And he performed it flawlessly.
