I'm really glad he released this song. I've spoken about the difference between the two since I moved to the city. Being a small town girl all my life, lived in the city for the past four years. I have been ready to go home since week two. Pizza delivery ain't worth the crime rates. People are hateful, cruel, and don't care about each other in the city. You so much as sigh 'hi' just to be nice and greet someone with a smile and they yell at you about not knowing you. Of course I don't know you! Still a human being! I don't have to know you to show respect and demand it in return.

This song has nothing to do with race. It has everything to do with criminals no matter what color they are. It's about community, It's about America, Standing together and not allowing the punks to overtake our cities.

I believe this song crosses all racial lines, it's about community unity, and don't bring that violence into my neighborhood cause we stand together.

As someone who grew up in a small neighborhood in Baltimore City, we all have our boundaries, if dude's would come from other neighborhood's looking for trouble, they would get dealt with. This applies to a SMALL TOWN in the middle of nowhere, as much as it does in any small area in a city.

This song makes me want to take my kids and move us to a small town, either that, or make the place we live more like a small town.

I'm a transgender woman who first heard about this song due to the controversy. Politically I consider myself center-left, with a libertarian bent. I grew up in a conservative (but generally not religious) family, then had my liberal-progressive phase back in college. As I've matured, I've come to realize that free speech means free speech for everyone, and that big government isn't usually the best solution. I do realize that free speech doesn't mean freedom from consequences, but cancel culture takes "consequences" to an unnecessary extreme in many cases, especially to people without the fame or following that Jason Aldean has (not to mention large parts of his fanbase probably oppose cancel culture). The problem I believe many people have with _Try That In A Small Town_ involves the combination of the lyrics in the verses, the imagery in the video, and the lyrics in the chorus (especially the "see how far you make it down the road / 'round here we take care of our own" lines). It's easy to perceive the lyrics as referring to vigilante justice, and from there, make a connection with lynching (as a product of vigilantism). Truthfully, I'm sick of all of this senseless violence and political division. Too many people try to "resolve" their problems by resorting to violence. It's a problem on both sides of the political spectrum, although many of our mass shootings appear motivated by extreme right-wing ideology. The Allen, TX shooting in May 2023 immediately comes to mind, in consideration of the shooter having Nazi tattoos, as well as the May 2022 Buffalo, NY shooting. I'm not letting the left off the hook either, in light of some of the unnecessary violence that occurred in summer 2020. What happened to George Floyd was not justified at all, but neither was looting, rioting, and vandalizing businesses. I'll also say that taking the law into your own hands isn't justified either, because we have the rule of law. By the way, I also live here in Fort Worth. I'm pretty sure we avoided the kind of riots depicted in Aldean's music video. Yes, we have problems here, although I personally find living here to be the perfect mix of city life and safety. Sometimes I wish the environment here were more LGBTQIA+ friendly, especially to transgender people like myself, but I do find some room for common ground through framing it as a personal freedom issue. As much as I'd like to live in a progressive city, I can't help but notice what has happened to places like San Francisco and Seattle. Both the cost of living and the homelessness crisis are out of control there. People need help... which is what "taking care of our own" should mean, including (but not only) when it comes to our own family members who might be struggling.

I live in Polk County, Florida. Two years ago, groups came into Lakeland, Florida with the thought to do exactly what Jason Aldean is singing about. Our Sheriff, Grady Judd, the entire sheriff's department, and the Lakeland police department shut down their intentions to attack a shopping center and local mall. Then when it got reported that they planned on going into the neighborhoods and creating havoc, our Sheriff [Grady Judd] got on TV and made a statement. He challenged them to try. He said I tell my citizens to have guns in their homes and if you go through the door, they are to send you back out the same door you came through and we won't even question what happened. No second guessing. They will defend their home, their property, their community and their families. We support them. NOT ONE INCIDENT was reported. They left town. Try that in our town.... Try that in our county.... You will go home in a body bag.

Also keep in mind that Jason Aldean was the performer who was playing on stage when a man opened fire on the venue in Las Vegas. He literally had to run off stage while bullets were flying. In a matter of minutes there were over 1000 rounds fired, injuring more than 850 and killing 60 people. If anyone had the right to push an agenda or divide the country over firearms and/or violence, he would be one of them. Instead, he is using his music and his platform to show what it means be a proud American. The people who are criticizing this song and video need a wake up call and a check of their mental health. When our town was threatened with possible riots, we had a meeting & closed every street into town down. First set of lyrics call out the divided status of all the big cities that *let* what is sung about happen, as to where smaller towns will flock to those in trouble to help or protect them, whatever the case may be.

I grew up in a small farming community of 700 people, in a county of 27,000 people. sure there were "rivalries" between towns/schools over school basketball, baseball, football teams. but when things got bad everyone jumped in and offered a hand, no matter what political leanings, ethnicity or religion someone might be. We helped each other, we supported each other, we had each other's backs. THAT is what the song represents.

Last year a militia group came into a nearby small town in Idaho. They were reported by a resident and the police checked it out. They found 25 or so men in riot gear with weapons packed in a trailer about ready to disperse. All were arrested, charged and the first 5 were just found guilty of preparing to incite a riot. Small town justice here was sure and swift.

When "the summer of hate" came around. Our communities protected our own. I am from THE BRONX!!! I live in a diverse neighborhood and everyone got together with 2X4''s and baseball bats (we can't carry, although I am sure some were carrying). Our "small towns" are called "neighborhoods" and everyone knows everyone and we do live close together also. This country is comprised of millions and millions "Small Towns" even in "Blue" states.
