Here is his drum solo from this show. along with Chester Thompson who played the drums for him while he is out front singing. They've been together since the 70's. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-81rWqhN5jE4.html
What you’re feeling is Jesus Christ, putting his seal of approval on this song only because we’re going to meet him in the air at any moment for the rapture!!! Are you rapture ready to meet Jesus in the air tonight??? 🌈🕊️🆙🕊️🌈
The reasoning behind the song was that he was getting a divorce. He was really angry and hurt. Well, I was there and saw what you did, I saw it with my own two eyes…..So, you can wipe off that grin, I know where you’ve been, it’s all been a pack of lies……. He is very expressive with words and adds emotion into his songs. Phil Collins was the drummer for Genesis and the back up singer, until the original singer left and he became the main one. He was in the band Genesis from 1970-1996. From 1970-1975 he was just mainly the drummer. He has had many number one hits and done many albums for movies and for Disney movies. He is a legend and will always be.
Fun fact: From about 1983 to 1991, a Phil Collins song was play about every fourth song on the radio. If you were in your car with the radio on for 15 minutes, you heard Phil Collins at least once.
He was in a band called Genesis. First as just the drummer then the lead vocalist as well as drummer. They started in the late 60s and kept making new music into the 21st Century. They recently finished what will be their final tour because he has an illness and can’t drum anymore or have the strength to sing. It’s his natural voice but the keyboard player is also singing along through a vocoder in certain places. Was this his biggest song? It’s probably become that, but it was his first solo hit. He was still in Genesis when he released it and indeed all his solo albums were released during down time with Genesis. He has sold millions and millions of albums.
Full body chills and goosebumps every single time I watch this video! The build up is agonisingly slow. Almost painful, along with the tingling sensation you get when you know what’s coming. The audience’s rumbling when they see the drum kit. Then the epic moment when that legendary drum fill hits you followed by the roar of the crowd!!! If you haven’t guessed it already, I love this song! And this live recording is phenomenal!
I've seen the man do this 6 times in concert and he never disappoints. Last was his Still Not Dead Yet tour in Denver '19. Check out Man on the Corner with his band Genesis. The live concert version will blow you away. In concert is always better than studio
A Legend and Master at work! Phil is a world class drummer with an outstanding voice. A true musical ICON. I am the only 1 who gets massive chills at the drum drop? Phil and this song are IMMORTAL one of the greatest performance ever given. The greatest drum drop of all time!
I 'discovered' Phil Collins and Genesis when I was a teenager. Now I'm 63 y.o. and I still feel goosebumps while listening to this song. Great mister Collins ❤
Phil Collins is a top-tier drummer, singer, and songwriter. Do yourself a huge favor and take a deep dive into his career. Phil joined Genesis on their third album, Nursey Crymes. He replaced Peter Gabriel as lead singer when Gabriel left to start his solo career after "The Lamb Lies Down" in 74. "A Trick of the Tail" in 76 is Phil's first album out from behind the drums. He was not the polished stage performer you see here. But his singing was brilliant. Steve Hackett left the group for his own solo career after "Wind and Wuthering". Phil, Tony Banks, and Mike Rutherford continued on as Genesis for many more years, transforming from Prog to Pop. Mike (Mike and the Mechanics) and Tony also put out solo albums. Phil has had many health problems including nerve damage from his years of drumming, alcoholism, and a serious fall. But drumming was and is his first love. As a child, Phil had a small acting part as "The Artful Dodger" in "Oliver Twist".
Kathy here, and yes the drop finally came! He was the drummer for Genesis for years, then went out on his own and yes this is his band who plays with him. Great reaction!! Oh, he can't drum anymore due to his arms basically being shot for drumming for so many years, but his son is now his drummer.
This is my favourite live performance. This is a definite draw when someone reacts to it. Loved your reaction. Haven't read the other comments but the reason he wrote was because of a nasty divorce he was going through. He was the front man and singer for Genesis while having his own solo career. At one point he had the #1 album until it was knocked off by an album by Genesis. Any song from the album No Jacket Required is worth listening to
Yes the guys performing with him are part of the original group Genesis (those who are still alive). They prefer live instruments but Phil helped to creat the trend of “auto tune” (Zap & Roger did that too) that many others have used, but he used it sparingly. PHIL IS DEFINITELY A G.O.A.T!!
Apart from Phil, only drummer Chester Thompson and Guitar Daryl Stuermer had any connection with Genesis. They would both tour with the band for many years but neither were actual members.
He was part of the group Genesis they did their last tour beginning of this year … in his solo work.. the drummer the base player and guitarist always have worked with him
Watch this video to the end. I LOVE seeing his little bow toward the end. Phil says this is an albatross around his neck, because he feels he has so much more to offer AND HE DOES. Although nothing gets better than this performance....by him are anyone else! You will like his live performance of his song 'I Don't Care Anymore'. His main band was Genesis where he took over singing out front after the fantastic Peter Gabriel left. There is SO much great music to explore and I feel you will really appreciate. Too much to even start naming.
@5.30 chill, no more like anger. This song is about his cheating wife and her affair partner. Knowing this allows you understanding of the words and emotions.
Honestly, Phil, child actor, drummer, actor, singer, song writer, performer... Google/Wikipedia are your friends. Others have mentioned the band Genesis, I discovered them in the early 1970s while a student, When their singer. Peter Gabriel - (use Google/Wikipedia), left to do his own stuff, Phil took over as singer as well as drummer.. A measure of how respected he is (or was) is demonstrated by the people he colabed with and the people he constantly worked with. Two notables are the beard with a bass (Leland Sklar) and the other drummer (Chester Thompson) - check RU-vid, Google and Wikipedia for their names. In the 1980s he was nearly everywhere (he practically over did it and some people thought it was too much). Other bands from the late 1960s through the 70s and into the 80s I would suggest are Jethro Tull, they are my other all time favourites. They are different, covers just about every genre you can name from blues, folk, progressive, mix in a bit of jazz, AND the front man/singer (Ian Anderson) was a self taught flute player - I always say the only viable genre for Jethro Tull is "Jethro Tull". The guitarist (Martin Barre) is a very underrated guitarist.
Check out a younger (35 yrs old) Collins in his Miami Vice segment called 'Phil the Shill'. The dude can act! (he also did several movies for TV and the big screen in the late '80s and '90s!)
The man! Song was about his cheating wife.. he has a ton of hits especially writing movie themes! I love your reaction! Have you done queen? Dragon Attack Under Pressure We Will Rock You We are the Champions And around 200 more songs.. the band members all wrote and sang their own songs. Freddie Mercury especially a genius and considered the all time best front man. His voice carried thru 4 octaves . Genius songs from these 4 men!
His bassist, Leland Sklar, has a channel on RU-vid under his name. He has done several videos on Phil Collins' songs, about the production, etc. Great reaction!
Check out his drum duet, also filmed during this tour. Live I DON'T CARE ANY MORE, both are AMAZING. He's one of the best if not the best drummers ever.
That 'special effects' voice sound... isn't auto-tune or even Phil singing. His keyboard player is singing into a mic that kind of compresses and makes an echo effect of his vocals...but it's live...not like an overlay of a recording or anything.
This is Phil Collins personal favorite song, because it has very deep meaning for him. He witnessed a murder, and he brought the man to justice by inviting him to one of his concerts. The band he started was called Genesis. He had many top 10 billboard songs.
I heard he witnessed a child being drowned, and saw the man. That he brought that man to his concert to have him arrested. I am not saying your wrong. The song makes sense for both instances. It was just what was told.
lol no he didnt. He wrote it after being pissed off and hurt after a divorce. He said it wasnt about a certain person, just hurt and anger he was feeling at the time.
This is an interview with Jimmy Fallon where he talks about what the song is actually about. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kLRy_RkoTKA.html
Your comments made me laugh, and I envy that you are at the very beginning of discovering the greatness that is Phil Collins. Some answers to your questions (apologies if others covered them as well); 1. Is Phil a one hit wonder or what else has he done? Answer: "Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney and Phil Collins are the only musicians to have sold over 100 million albums as a solo artist and member of a group." (I trust you've heard of Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney, originally one of the 4 Beatles). If you google "Phil Collins Top 1o hits" I believe you see about 51 songs, some solo and some with Genesis, the band he played drums for and ended up singing lead for as well. 2. What inspired him to write this song? His wife ran off with a painter decorator, and this song was born out of the pain Phil Collins felt from that divorce. When he performed it on a show called "Top of the Pops": "When Phil found out that his former wife had run off with a painter and decorator, he performed this song with a pot of paint and a brush on a workbench next to his keyboard. Collins claimed that the bench is what he used for a keyboard stand, and when he saw the paint and brush backstage, he thought it would make a nice look. Coincidence? His ex-wife didn't buy it. "I felt sick and betrayed," she told the Daily Mail. "I knew straight away it was a message to me." He plays both drums and piano, but is best known for his drumming. He has just retired, since a neck injury left him unable to play the drums any more and he has trouble walking without a cane. His son Nicholas took his place playing drums on his final Genesis tour. Enjoy discovering the greatness that is Phil Collins---for quite a long time, his songs were everywhere. He wrote a lot of music and has acted in movies and on TV. He was a talented guy and prolific in both writing and playing music, and his performances will be missed.
He wrote this song during a very bad time in his life. He and his 1st wife were getting a divorce, and he put his anger and frustrations out into this song. Basically, it's the most seductive song about REVENGE.
A suggestion for you: Stormzy - Dungeon Dragons feat Cadet. The beat and the energy of those guys is so catchy! Also I would recommend almost anything by Stromae. He is literally musical genius, when it comes to the music videos, lyrics and beats.
