One of my favorites as well. I love that whole album. I will always have a soft spot for songs that tell a story and Where Dragons Dwell leads right into that so perfectly.
@mstorrboy I agree for the most part. I see Flying Whales as one of those. Just happy he is checking them out. His head is gonna splode when he does Art of Dying lol
Is this Death Metal? Well...yes, but No. Kinda...and not really. 🙃 It's a mix of Death Metal, Groove Metal, bit Prog and some modern stuff. Like Morbid Angel, Death and Mastodon Had a child.
@@michaelhoilman6897this is so true, gojira is one of the very few bands with such a unique varied sound that i have no clue what category they’d fit in lol
which is why i keep suggesting opeth to him, ease him out with songs that have all the elements of death metal, but also other musical elements that he has been accustomed to
@@Horseheadbookendz That's the beauty of Death. We all have our opinion and we're all correct. Human is my favourite Death album, followed by ITP as it goes. But Symbolic is one of my favourites of his as it delves deep into his psyche. Hell, we could go on forever about Chuck - his genius was limitless.
Check out Flying Whales and Heaviest Matter in the Universe! Insane songs! Oh, and yes, this is death metal, but it's not extreme death metal. Bands like Deicide, Obituary, Morbid Angel are MUCH heavier death metal bands.
Metal genre has many ramifications...death,black,gothic,doom,trash,melodic,symphonic,heavy...and more. For something extreme I recommend pure "deathcore" like the band "Slaughter to prevail" ,song "Viking"... Good reaction man...👍
Early Gojira (godzilla) is the even better imo, they can just do it all, it’s incredible, their demo Possessed is mind blowing for a first ep / demo as a band
Stranded is one of their tamer and more simple songs. It's catchy and structured more like standard songs which is not their usual style. It's a great intro song for them. People always suggest some of their heavier, (and better imo), songs but for ppl who dont listen to this style of music It's a bad way to introduce someone to their music. This was a good choice. I'd suggest L'enfant Sauvage of the same titled album next which is again a bit catchier but also moves away from some of the standard musical format and then all bets are off and anything can go. Just my 2cents. Definitely want to see you experience more though.
Been waiting on Gojira for a while MollyBoy glad you got around to them. This song is for sure on the lighter side of their catalogue. Try Backbone if you want that super heavy.
Gojira is my current favorite... I can't stop listening. Saw them last year in Cincinnati, and as much as I love Mastodon, Gojira actually owned that show.
This is the way to do it if you want to get into death metal over time. Some people suggest the most brutal bands right away but if you're not used to the screaming/growling it's better to listen to bands like In Flames, the later albums from Gojira or even early Slipknot (the Iowa album for example) to just get used to harsher vocals first. And when you feel you've started to really like harsh vocals maybe check out bands like Arch Enemy and Amon Amarth (the more melodic side of death metal) before checking out the old school brutal bands like Morbid Angel and Cannibal Corpse. Keep up the great work, I enjoy watching your reactions! 🤘
Exactly. I can forgive them because theyre fans and they want ppl to love what they love so they become over enthusiastic but that's how you turn ppl off of what you like more than lead them in. I made a similar comment. You've gotta ease them in. This song was great choice for that.
I'm really proud to be french as them, you have to check so many songs from them, they're also awesome humans too, their lyrics have some deep meanings concerning ecology, they're really engaged especially in Amaazonian forest. Mario (drums) and joe (guitar and singer) are brothers. And Mario is now considered as one one the best metal drummer in the world. They have so much respect from every metal all other the world. At thje beginning they were "just" a death metal band, now, they really have their own Gojira sound, brilliant on records AND live too. My advices songs: "The art of dying", "Silvera", "The gift of guilt"(live), "Born for one thing", Amazonia", "The chant", "Grind",....
Gojira is fantastic. They’ve evolved and matured tremendously from their very early years. Numerous great songs listed in the comments. Also Amazonia, Born For One Thing, Silvera, L’enfant Sauvage.
Gojira (go-jeer-uh). Gift of Guilt at Brixton. Where Dragons Dwell. Pray at Red Rocks (my home Colorado). Flying Whales. From Mars to Sirius and so many others! Down the rabbit hole you go, son!
So many great death metal bands if you’re up for it. Cannibal Corpse, Cattle Decapitation, Archspire, Fleshgod Apocalypse, and Inferi are some of my favorites. Don’t read the lyrics to some of these bands music! 😂
Screw trying to put it in a category. It's just awesome. That's all that matters hands down. And if you really like that song which I know you did, I could see it from the reaction. You're going to love shooting star. Check it out. I seen these guys on RU-vid. Live at the Red rocks in Colorado in the freaking concert was amazing. Enjoying my boy!
You know, nowadays Gojira is a phenomenon. No bright personality frontman, no crazy outfits or anything just 4 humble guys who make amazing music. The attention they are getting is completely deserved. Please react to their album “From Mars to Surius”, imo that’s their most progressive and heaviest album, really shows what they do best in that one. My favorite tracks are “Backbone” and “Where dragons dwell”, would love to see what u think about them. Love your channel, especially the Metallica reactions you did, keep it up bro! Much love from Kazakhstan🫶
So glad you're getting into Gojira. This band is killer live. You should react to their live version of Silvera. Do a search for "GOJIRA - Silvera live - Hellfest 2016"
Flying whales, The art of dying, Explosia, L'enfant Sauvage, Deliverance, Space Time, Backbone, The heaviest matter of the universe would be my recommendations for this band. They're amazing!
THAT WAS SO HARD AND HEAVY, I DON'T KNOW THIS BAND BUT WOW!! CRAZY INSANE!! HAVE YOU REACTED TO ROB ZOMBIE OR WHITE ZOMBIE? AWESOME REACTION MOLLYBOY!! NOT MY CUP OF TEA, BUT I APPRECIATE THEIR ART. 😊🩷🤘✌️
Heard someone throw out Lack of Comprehension by Death in the comments, so I'll also tack on that literally every song from Death's "Symbolic" is incredible. It's later in their discography where they got more melodic and progressive with things and I love it.
Yes, more Gojira, you have to experience these live versions of Gojira! I recommend the songs "The Art of Dying" and "The Heaviest Matter in the Universe" (both live at Vielles Carruses Festival, 2010) and "The Gift of Guilt" (Live at Brixton Academy, London).
this is one of gojiras lighter songs, gojira are referred to as the gateway into death metal since many of their songs are easy to listen to while being as heavy as you would expect from death metal. If you wanna dive into their heavier side i recommend songs like Flying Whales, Heaviest Matter in the Universe and Oroborus. If you want to ease yourself in the i would go with songs like Silvera, Where Dragons Dwell and Global Warming and Amazonia. If you are looking for some other bands to check out i would recommend Amon Amarth with a song like Twilight of the Thunder God or Arch Enemy with a song like War Eternal. These three bands are the bands that got me into this genre and these songs pulled me in. Gojira is still my favorite band of all time. Definitely make sure to check out Avatar somewhere down the line. Their song Bloody Angel is absolutely a banger
Dont listen to these people, gojira is a mix. Their first 3 or 4 albums are definitely death metal, id say first two are tech death second two prog death. Later on including this song they strayed away from death metal and become more purely prog and groove metal. This song is more like technical groove.
The Cell, Toxic Garbage Island, Another Workd, Le Enfant Savauge, Flying Whales, Gift of Guilt (Live at Brixton), biggest band on the earth right now. You can't go wrong with Gojira
The name "Death Metal" comes from a band's name called Death. The guitarist/composer of Death was Chuck Schuldiner, the creator of this genre we call as "Death Metal", who tragicaly passed away in cancer at the age of 34. I definitely recommend you to make a reaction for Death. I would recommend you to chose a "lighter" song for the first time hearing this band, for example "Crystal Mountain" from the album "Symbolic".
If you are going to dive into death metal, you should go back to some of the original bands. I would start with Death - Lack of Comprehension to hear some musical greatness
Glad you choose Gojira, I recommend you watch live in red rocks, they sound so freaking brutal, they have a tribal influence by sepultura, Amazonia must be your next stage...
They used to play (technical/progressive) death metal in their first albums but that's definitely not death metal. Loved your reaction though, I think that song is a good entry point to Gojira. I hope to see more Gojira reactions, there's lots to discover !
Gojira is awesome. A great balance of really heavy, beautiful, and progressive sounds. Will watch more of that! Agreed on Flying Whales and Heaviest Matter in the Universe. Love the content, great stuff!
All The Tears or Lefaunt Savage are a great spread of the mix of styles they have. Plenty of slow gentle songs as well like Shooting Star, Low Lands and Born in Winter! They built their own studio (mostly Joe himself, the vocalist) and they record/mix all their own work! Mario the drummer, got Best Metal Drummer 2 years running! Check out his solos. Sadly, Joe and Mario (brothers) had their mother pass away during the creation of this album so the themes hit extra hard with emotion. Joe has a very unique "pitch screaming" ability, and it makes him very versatile, he can even do Mongolian throat singing, featured most prominently in Amazonia and The Way of All Flesh (insane song)
I've been waiting for you to listen to Gojira for a long time. You should also listen to The Gift of Guilt, Chant, Born in Winter, Flying Wales, Amazonia, Sphinx, Into the Storm, Oroborus, Magma, Silvera
Haha I stopped the video and liked it right when you rewinded the song. I almost shed a tear watching your face when the clean part came along. Keep going with Gojira, the gift of guilt.
Absolutely love watching your musical journey bro 🤘🤘 Death metal is much more aggressive than that now. Check out Slaughter to Prevail for the more modern style. But it is extremely aggressive!! 🤘
Gojira used to be death metal, they actually used to be the quintessence of death metal, late 90’s early 00’s. They then slowly became more and more progressive with time, but they still are difficult to put in a box. This is the good way to get into them, next up i’d sugggest you to check out Silvera, and than slowly go backwards in their catalogue. Flying Whales live at brixton or Explosia live at Brixton are also great ones. Don’t sleep on them, they’re so special. And yes, he totally looks like the Joaquin Phoenix in that scene screaming with that window!
They are french and started a while back. If you want more I think Silvera is their 2nd most poppy song. If you want to take the death metal dive near the roots, lots of people recommend Death but I would still recommend Morbid Angel - Chapel of Ghouls. A lot of people also recommended Bolt Thrower, which is my personal favorite pure death metal band and its also kind of accessable for death metal. People who recommend Death songs from later albums I would not recommend starting there for death metal, as they are basically jazz with heavy instruments and vocals :D
If you want to explore some Death Metal, check out At The Gates- Slaughter of The Soul In Flames- Artifacts of The Black Rain Amon Amarth- Fate of Norms
You should also check out some live recordings of Gojira. They really blew me away because they can actually reproduce these pretty challenging songs and it sounds exactly like on the record.
I’ve seen others react to this band have always resisted. I’m a lil scared. I’m gonna try with you and see how I do. Let’s see what happens🫣…..instruments are fantastic. The vocals were hard to take but glad I waited to the end when the vocals changed. All in all glad I watched it. Thanks for the introduction Molly Boy!
Hat off to you for trying 😊 sometimes it plants a seed and you'll grow to like it later down the line but if not then you don't and that's ok! But if we don't try we won't ever know!
I absolutely love that you did gojira😮😊 they were amazing to see live😊 just wanted you to know that they are a French metal band😮 never thought those words would go together but they do it so well😊 love your video Thanks... Kevin Colorado
Hell yea just found your channel ! Love your reaction. Like everyone else is saying they are so many genres . I hope you go down the Gojira rabbit hole , I’ll be joining if you do 😁😁🤘🏽
You'll love Gift of Guilt and Silvera. This band is even better live, any songs from them I would just react to the live version. Also Pray live, its full on spiritual experience
