Notice how Bruce points up just a couple verses in. He's telling the sound booth that he can't hear his voice and needs the mic louder. True professional. And he flies the Boeing Jet around the world for tours. Hats off to that guy.
@papalaz4444244
@papalaz4444244 4 месяца назад
Technically he wants the monitors up louder, but yes. There will be a wedge monitor at each of the points he stands in, I suspect :)
@MoMoMyPup10
@MoMoMyPup10 4 месяца назад
@@papalaz4444244 correct -- before there were ear monitors it was a very big deal in loud places to be able to hear yourself in those wedges -- your voice can get drowned out easily by the music that it could throw off your whole concentration and ability to keep pace, especially with the tempo that Maiden plays at.
@chrismaher5344
@chrismaher5344 4 месяца назад
I'd figure that the monitors are at a set angle to maximize hearing on the floor. Go up 6 ft and you'll lose some volume since his higher frequencies are fairly directional.

I first heard this in Chicago in 1982 at a venue called ChicagoFest where I was working as a photographer. From the opening chime to the last note played I was mezmerized . Everyone not with the band or label who never heard this just stood and watched at the amazing performance and I don't think I lifted my camera for the entire 8 minutes or so. Iron Maiden is an incredible band but this track is just so epic, it is on another level.

@ms51675 Still trying to find out if this was an after mix in a studio or not. That's 82 and that is truly amazing even if it is with the equipment back then. By far one of the best recordings of this song to have his bass that up front. Harris is incredible, it's nice to hear him that clear. Don't find many live videos from the 80's that sound this good.

One of my favorite Maiden tracks and in my opinion this is the absolute best recorded performance of it. Performed at the Hammersmith Odeon in front of a small intimate crowd. The band and the audio technicians nailed this entire show. Hard to believe it was recorded in 1982 with how good the sound quality is. You're in for a treat.

I first heard them in 1988, when I was 13. I loved everything about them, the guitars in harmony, the galloping feel to their songs and Bruce's emotionally charged voice. They were way better than anything else I'd heard at the time and I couldn't wait to hear more. I became obsessed with their 1985 album 'Live After Death' simply because it was live. It took me into what it'd be like to experience them at a concert and I couldn't wait to see them for the first time. I'm just glad I got to grow up with really fantastic music.

Iron maiden was formed in 1975, and had already undergone a number of lineup changes by 1982. Lead vocalist Bruce Dickinson joined the band in 1981. Talking of small venues, they started off playing in pubs, although they have continued playing in smaller venues as well as the likes of stadia. I saw them in Ayr Pavillion in south west Scotland in 1990.

Bruce "The Human Air Raid Siren" Dickinson joined Iron Maiden in 1981 and they are still touring as of 2024. With the same energy, presence and power. Bruce did reach the age limit and cannot pilot himself the private jet of the band anymore, and he did lose a bit of his extreme vocal range and endurance after beating throat cancer, so he's not able to hold that 26 seconds high note anymore, and he "only" has a 5 octaves range anymore. His biography is astonnishing, he's an Olympic-level fencer, a philantropist, flew the 747 jet of the band himself into war zone to bring relief supplies, has written children books, has owned his own flight school and flying company, and sooooo much more. Dig in, dig deep, you won't regret it !

in the 1970's Iron Maiden played regularly at a venue where I grew in Kingsbury NW London. Called the Bandwagon it was a 700 capacity hall that was attached to a pub called the Prince of Wales. Unfortunately it's no longer there & is now a Tesco Metro or similar. "From small acorns mighty oaks do grow".

Bruce Dickenson. Singer. Iron maiden. AND - - - He undertook a career as a commercial pilot for Astraeus Airlines, which led to a number of media-reported ventures such as captaining Iron Maiden's converted charter aeroplane, Ed Force One, during their world tours. Following Astraeus' closure, in 2012 he created his own aircraft maintenance and pilot training company, Cardiff Aviation. Dickinson presented his own radio show on BBC Radio 6 Music from 2002 to 2010, and has also hosted television documentaries, authored novels and film scripts, created a beer with Robinsons Brewery and competed at fencing internationally

This concert was from 1982 on the tour for Iron Maiden's 3rd album (their 1st w/ singer Bruce Dickinson) 'The number of the beast'... The venue was the Hammersmith Odeon (now Eventim Apollo) in London. The live record was titled 'Beast over Hammersmith'. Iron Maiden was formed in 1975 by Steve Harris (bass) in London as a pub band... they would perform cover songs as well as original songs that Harris was writing (early songs like 'Wrathchild' ... 'Innocent exile' ... 'Iron Maiden' ... 'Invasion'... etc.) Harris was always searching for talent to improve the band's live sound and execution... he met Dave Murray (guitar) in 1976 and asked him to join Maiden... After some line-up shifts, Dave Murray joined permanently by 1977 w/ Doug Sampson (drums)... Paul Di'Annno (vocals) joined in '77 as well and Iron Maiden spent years playing gigs across the UK while holding down day jobs... They built a huge following but had some trouble finding a 2nd guitarist for their dual-lead guitar sound (a few guitarists came and went!) In 1979, Iron Maiden was finally signed to EMI Records, just as Doug Sampson was leaving the band... their 1980 debut album was recorded w/ Clive Burr (drums) and Dennis Stratton (2nd guitar)... and the album charted at #4 in the UK... Paul Di'Anno had a punk rock edge to his vocals and that made Maiden very popular in Europe as they toured the rest of the year. Adrian Smith (2nd guitar) replaced Dennis Stratton before they recorded 2nd album 'Killers' in 1981... the band toured N. America and Japan for the first time. However, the extensive touring led to singer Paul Di'Anno unable to cope w/ the demands of Iron Maiden - he parted ways w/ the band in '81 and was replaced by Bruce Dickinson (vocals) Maiden's sound became streamlined in 1982 w/ 3rd album 'The number of the beast' and it went to #1 on the UK charts and sold platinum (1 million copies) in the US... Nicko McBrain (drums) replaced Clive Burr in 1983 for 4th album 'Piece of Mind' - another platinum hit as Iron Maiden became an arena heavy metal band w/ the release of 5th album 'Powerslave' in 1984. There is an early concert video 'Live at the Rainbow' which Iron Maiden filmed in late 1980 at the Rainbow Theater w/ Paul Di'Anno on vocals, performing early Maiden songs like - 'Phantom of the Opera' ... 'Wrathchild' ... 'Remember tomorrow'... 'Killers'... 🔥🤘 'Beast over Hammersmith' was filmed in 1982 but not released (at the time) because of technical issues w/ the footage and lighting. 'Live after death' was Maiden's first official live album, filmed and recorded at Long Beach Arena, Long Beach, California on the 1984 'Powerslave' tour... released in 1985. They released the concert video 'Maiden England' in 1988 filmed on the tour for 'Seventh son of a seventh son'. On the 1992/ '93 tour for 'Fear of the dark'... Maiden filmed their Donington '92 festival set... and what was supposed to be Bruce Dickinson's final show (He announced that he was leaving Iron Maiden in 1993) was a Pay-per-view event filmed w/ horror illusionist Simon Drake as host... It was released in '93 as the concert video 'Raising Hell'. The band did not officially record or release any concert video when Blaze Bayley (vocals) was in Iron Maiden from 1995 til 1998... but they did release a live clip of the song 'Afraid to shoot strangers' w/ Bayley on vocals in '96.

My favourite maiden song! I’m a 55 year ld women and have loved Iron Maiden since I was about 12. The guitarist Janick Gers lives near me and I often see him in our local shopping centre or local village having a pint. Very quiet guy!! You wouldn’t believe he as a member of one of the biggest bands in the world…. Iron maiden started around the mid 70s when I was 6. You need to watch them do their tours when the lead singer Bruce Dickinson pilots the boing 757 ..now that something!, Apparently Bruce Dickinson is worth around £130 million dollars alone

Concert was in March 1982 a few days before the Number of the Beast album was released. The audience is hearing this song for the very first time.

Back then to play at the Hammersmith Odeon was the pinnacle for many bands. The Hammersmith Odeon is an iconic venue or the Hammersmith Apollo as it's known today .

The last time I saw them live was at a small venue when they toured after Bruce and Adrian rejoined the band. Yes they both had sadly left for a time. It was a place called the Aragon Ballroom (the Brawlroom) here in Chicago. Walking out of the place you could still feel the bass! It was crazy!

The most energetic concert I have even been to was Maiden in 1985. I saw them a few years ago and they seemed just as energetic, but I wasn't quiet as such.
