No it just that he wasn't necessarily a rapper that stood out to people, so when he passed, and it deeply affected people in the community it made people change their minds and give him a chance. He's a stranger in a culture and art form where he has to carve a unique image. People aren't weird, they can change and evolve over time. Before Divine Feminine he was literally a cookie cutter frat rapper, then he evolved himself. It's how Macklemore ,lil dicky fell off , and nobody cares because they are replaceable (jack Harlow replaced him). If Tyler Continued on the track of making Goblin,Bastard and Cherry Bomb; he wouldve have been another Hopsin or big Sean.

His initial Freshman -Junior run gave off the initial impression of who he was then during that 2015ish era His transition became more noticeable but they then people already had their ideology of who he was; Same for Tyler as well even though they evolved well last expectations. You also Have to account for Mac Competition being Extremely stiff. Em,Tyler,Kanye,SchoolBoy Q Kendrick,Drake,Cole,Wayne,Jay. Also Macklemore was around so... That really didn't help either

This is largely why Hip Hop is dying on the charts. You have a few rappers who make big money but the rest are struggling to make ends meet. This much was evident in the Baby Mama video that their expenses are just as high as their income and even then it's not much. This recent fiasco with Kendrick basically created a monopoly for him. Meanwhile all the white people who used to buy the albums have moved onto EDM because there's no stigma against a white person liking that. Making Hip Hop only centered on Black people has effectively driven out your major audience. This was NEVER the case for Rock where the founders were black but eventually passed on to majority white bands.

The thing about G-Eazy is that his sequel album didn't do so well is that because it wasn't promoted enough, he beefed with his old management and there were no music videos for it, he did a deluxe version for the album including his previous releases like Still be friends, Moana and Hate the way but it wasn't enough, above all that, he went on hiatus for like 2 years because of personal issues and right now he is starting to trend after his older songs like Tumblr girls and Lady k***ers are going viral, so I will say that he will be able to make a comeback and return to his old sound that he had over the last decade

It’s definitely much easier to come off as corny as a white rapper. And with so many two-week rappers in it for a cash-grab, it makes sense why people get skeptical when the next white rapper steps up. It’s important to understand this going into it. Gaining peers respect in rap over a long period of time is nothing new, (it’s just a bit harder for the white folks.) Remember the history of the genre before you even step in it, and pay respect to those who paved the path before you. the issue ppl have with white rappers and even other black ones is when they dnt respect the genre. The white rappers always just turn it into "its because i'm white"... Em is one of the few that actually knew the history and stuff. Thats the reason alot of old rappers dont like new ones is the same reason they didnt like white ones. They just jump into it for money then jump out. With the whit rappers its alittle worst because alot of them will change the whole way they talk to sound like they are from a urban area then when they get big they leave hiphop and change to their normal voice. Mac, Em was a rare couple that didnt do that. MGK too tbh.

Many important and older rappers were critiscizing the music during the arrival of what people called "soundcloud" or "mumble" rappers. The problem was the same thing you are talking about. It felt like not all cared about hip hop as a culture. They were rapping cause that's what is popular and plays and they listen to, if folk music was the big thing for young people in the US, many of them would be playing the banjo today instead of rap. For anyone who cares there's a pretty nice paper with mac miller and vince staples discussing "white rap".
