Who the fuck requested Rocket Skates for a first time Deftones listen? Not even one of their best deeper album cuts. I'd recommend Digital Bath, Change, or Be Quiet and Drive for a first time Deftones introduction, as they are infinitely better songs in general, and much easier to groove to.

Deftones is by far my favorite band. As others said below, please do not write them off with just this song. I'm a fan of it but think of it as expert mode when you need to start out on rookie... The band has changed a lot as they have gone through the years, taking several influences from issues and tragedies experienced by the band, such as the loss of Chi. If you progress with them from their first album to their last I think you would have a much greater understanding of their music. I'm glad you can respect it at this point so far though. They are truly a musically diverse band. Check out My Own Summer (Shove It), Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away), Digital Bath, Change (In the House of Flies), Minerva, Tempest, Sextape, or Kimdracula for a few suggestions. Consider Digital Bath or Change for (hopefully) another Deftones reaction!

DUDE!! Finally! I'm sorry that you didn't care for the song. They have a hundred different sounds, and any song will sound different from any other. Welcome to the lyricism of Chino Moreno. Dude can write some weird, confusing lyrics. Try out one of these next: My Own Summer (Shove It), Engine no. 9, Passenger (with Maynard from Tool), Back to School (this song is very contentious within the Deftones community because it's kind of MTV/radio-friendly, IDGAF what anyone else says, I love this song and I believe you will too). But good on ya for finally taking some time for Deftones. Give them some more time, I think you'll come around. They're just one of those bands that some people don't like right off the bat.

Rocket Skates is somewhat of a complex song in the sense that it's more evocative in terms of lyrics and even the music structure is prog-metalish as it breaks pattern if you look at it from a micro prospective. Anyway, Deftones is one of the best metal bands out there. They are pretty much the Radiohead of the metal scene, you can't put them or contain them under one genre. However, the change in the musical style is mostly from album to album for the most part and not song to song. If you really want raw metal Deftones then go for the self titled album. It's not the most popular album and even Chino mentioned it once that the album 'Deftones' is probably his least favourite. But it is to me one of the best albums they have put out so far. Every song in the album is coherent with the other and everything makes sense altogether.

Deftones: Change (in the house of flies) please!!

I LOVE Deftones, but some of their material you either have to have grow on you or listen to without the videos. Their videos aren't usually pertinent to the music and Chino definitely went through phases in his lyrical development. This song has a lot of indulgent lines and I believe that's what the song is about, being indulgent. This is something that I listen to when I need something to get the blood going or when I want something that is persistently fast, hard, and doesn't require thought. They have plenty of songs that have levels of complexity. I love the song for what it is-adrenaline inducing and, it may sound in poor taste to say, indulgent. There's a lot of praise solely on their old stuff, but I love how they've grown. Listen to some of their old material, let it grow on you. As many people have suggested, Change (In The House of Flies) and definitely Digital Bath. Those are fundamental, quintessential Deftones.

Later deftones is a acquired taste. Earlier deftones (first three albums) would be more for you.

By accident stumbled upon one of your reaction videos and ended up binge watching a number of videos on mind blowing songs (pieces of arts) by some immortal bands (giants among us) like Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Metallica, Pantera, GNR, In Flames, Arch Enemy, SOAD, etc., not because I love the songs and bands, rather because of your apparent honest reactions and your moments of shock, excitement, thrill, enjoyment and subsequent eargasm at pure, raw, aggressive emotions from the metal music genre. Your spontaneous quest for musical taste at different sub genres within metal music got me hooked to watch more of your videos and made me recollect my personal endeavour towards metal music aeons before. Since you are already on this gratifying persuit, may I suggest a few songs from few on the road and up and coming bands worth lending some ears and attention, hoping that you would review the songs at your RU-vid channel and you along with thousands of your viewers would immerse in the deep and ever satisfying reservoir of metal music. It's worth mentioning that all the bands in the list are Melodic Death Metal (MDM) bands which is the type of metal I have been devouring lately. 1. Dark Tranquility (Swedish Band) - Lost to Apathy, Lethe, Focus Shift, etc. 2. Insomnium (Finnish Band) - Weather the Storm, While We Sleep, Mortal Share, etc. 3. Be'lakor (Australian Band) - Countless Skies, The Smoke of Many Fires, From Scythe to Sceptre, etc. 4. I agree with some other people here, this was not the best song of theirs to listen to as an intro. But tbh, I only really liked the Around The Fur album & only liked 3 songs off that. My Own Summer (Shove It), Be Quiet And Drive, & Headup are the only songs I like. They are definitely a different type of band. Takes a little getting used too.

Deftones is an amazing unique band but you could react to better songs

Listen to Be Quiet And Drive, Knife Prty, Cherry Waves or Leathers Diamond Eyes is one of their heavier albums, try Saturday Night Wrist or Koi No Yokan You get used to Chinos style though, it's very different but for me it's one of the most unique and best voices. The heavier side of Deftones is dope though, try Leathers, Lotion, Elite or Rats! Rats! Rats!

Oddly enough I saw these guys in Vancouver in a small venue. After the show my cousin and I went to meet them back stage and we ended up talking with them for about an hour. At one point the fans actually thought we were apart of the band and the guitarist Stephen started saying we were apart of the band. We stayed for another 30 minutes signing autographs with deftones hahaha best night of my life.

Best concert I've been to was Deftones. Amazing live. Went to a concert in an abandoned warehouse in Rochester NY back in the late 90's. I'd say 85% of the warehouse was a mosh pit.

I'm sure this isn't a request you get often, as they aren't a band with a large following, but I'd love to see you react to a song by Silent Planet, specifically Native Blood or Northern Fires (Guernica). Their lead vocalist isn't just great when it comes to being a vocalist, but he's also an amazing lyricist. And yeah, as others have said, not the best song to choose for your first time hearing them. They have a very unique and eclectic style, some of my favorite songs being Digital Bath, Pink Maggit, Around the Fur, and Passenger (which features Maynard J. Hey, thank you, thank you, thank you! By far my favorite band. To give you a little background, they've been around since the early nineties with only one member change. Chi, the original bassist, died after an accident and years of being in a coma. They are still touring, still putting out albums and still sell out shows. Their uniqueness comes from the varied styles and storytelling style writing. Rocket Skates as a starter is an interesting pick though, lol. Try Change (In the House of Flies), My Own Summer, Be Quiet & Drive, Back to School, Minerva, You've Seen the Butcher, Digital Bath or Sextape. I know that's quiet a list but I feel these songs make better introduction songs that Rocket Skates, which I do love and think is a great song. Today I have went from just subbing to your channel to ringing that bell cause with everything else you review, Deftones will always be my number one band and I can't wait to see what else you react to.
