Great video. Had a total hip replacement yesterday. I am walking today without a walker. Went up and down a flight of stairs. Went to Columbia hospital at 6 Am out by 5 PM. Pain 1-10 about 3.
Right hip. I drove in 5 days. Pain, 2, for 2 days then 4. Not bad. Now 3 after 20 days. getting up and down from a chair is the hardest part now, pain-wise. But I can walk without a cane. Rear incision butt cheek
@@jspinosa50 drove in 5 days !? I've read they don't want you driving for a month lol. I'm anticipating the anterior approach so post OP may be different.
Very educative. Am yet to go in for the total hips and knees replacement operation. Diagnosed with bilateral osteoarthritis of the hips and knees for the past three years. Yet for to decide where to have the operation. Is it true that the operation is 50/50?
This is EXTREMELY close to how my replacement went. Didn’t have catheter. Just called nurse and they made sure I didn’t fall while walking on walker to bathroom. They gave me oxycodone, among other pain relievers and anti inflammatorie. You WILL use them when you go home. Once the anesthesia wears off, the pain is unbearable. Had mine at southern joint in Nashville. 8 days out, I’m getting better but damn it’s going slower than what my mind thought. Physical therapist laughed and said “boy, you had high expectations”, when I told him I thought I’d be pain free by now. But 8 days? Yes, I thought I’d be pain free.
@ExMuslimZulfikarali in my case yes. On day 3 I was so discouraged I was just vexing and I had pain it seemed everywhere but for some reason a lot in my knee on the operated side. I was losing it for a few hours. After that I made sure I took meds on time and as much as allowed! I am on day 4 today. Some improvement.
I'm 37 years old and a male. I was told my left hip needs to be replaced. I read too much about the surgery and now I'm utterly terrified about everything that's involved. How painful is the surgery? When I wake up from the surgery, will I feel intense pain or do the painkillers pretty much cancel it out? How long does the pain generally last? How about pre-op preperation? For instance, how much does the epidural hurt? The epidural really scares me, and what are the chances of my spine/back getting messed up from it? How much does the cathedir hurt? Can they put it in when I'm under anesthesia? If so how much does it hurt coming out? I'm very into bodybuilding and I'm worried that with all the time it takes to recover, that I will become fat and loose all the muscle/strength I've built thus far... How long does it take to recover to the point where I can walk around normal? Also, how long does it take for someone to recover to the point that they can go back in the gym and start weight lifting again? If someone who had the surgery and who has experience with all this can please let me know the answers to my questions I would be very grateful. I'm avoiding the surgery because I'm so scared about everything involved, but I can no longer walk properly and have a terrible limp, and the pain is stopping me from living my life and doing all the activities I love.
The procedure is fantastic! Of course there's muscular discomfort, but that is managed by medication easily. The difference you're going to experience will amaze you..as well as speed of your recovery! Pay attention to advised precautions theyll give you and recovery will be relatively quick and successful. Its changed my personal life as I thought I'd be using a walker or cane the rest of my life. I'm getting my life back and that's all we could ever hope for. Think and be possitive!❤
This video is outdated. I had total hip replacement on Oct 21, 2021 and I got out of surgery at 9 am and was discharged at 2 pm. I had a epidural, along with propofol and did not hear or feel anything during surgery. If I had stayed in the hospital 15 mote minutes, I would probably have been admitted to the hospital or at least stayed a little longer. I told my surgeon that it is inhumane to release patients so soon after a very serious surgery. The first night home, I was screaming in pain and my husband and sister almost called 911. It was 5 days later before I got the right combination of medication. I had the front hip procedure and I am 69 years young. It’s been five weeks today. Be sure to discuss in detail with your surgeon about pain control.
Hip replacement surgery is for people with severe hip damage. A total hip replacement is a surgical procedure whereby the diseased cartilage and bone of the hip joint is surgically replaced with artificial materials (Artificial Hip). Visit us to know more.

It's interesting that the narrator indicates the possible need for urinary catheter, and that it will be inserted after sedation, but no mention of by whom and what gender will insert, and who will be able to observe.
