HIPEC (hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy) - nicknamed MOAS, the "Mother of All Surgeries" is an extensive surgery and procedure used to treat cancers that have spread in the abdominal cavity. I talked with Kayla about her diagnosis, the beginning of treatment, when HIPEC became a part of the conversation, what it was like having HIPEC, and how recovery went.

Y'all are so young. I'm 63 with metastasized CRC (in the lungs now). But I've lived a full life. I can't imagine what you kids are going through. God bless you and much luck.

Could you talk about the patients that do not qualify for ostomy bag due to liver and other metastasis. When the rectal cancer tumor cause obstruction, what intervention/surgery palliative is used???
@SurvivorJelena
@SurvivorJelena Год назад
I haven’t heard of an ostomy bag not being an option. They may go for an ileostomy instead of a colostomy (or vice versa) because of the location of the tumor, otherwise radiation and chemo is used to shrink the tumor before surgery.

Wishing you the best. When I i took Avastin it caused me some internal bleeding, which I had to go back in surgery. But my beating my stage 4 CRC. I’m on pill chemo twice a day now, and for the rest of my life?
@SurvivorJelena
@SurvivorJelena Год назад
Hi Ed! Did they warn you about the potential for internal bleeding? That must have been scary.
@edgrabousky9995
@edgrabousky9995 Год назад
@@SurvivorJelena No they didn’t mention internal fissures was a possibility with that drug. But they stopped it after two treatments. Then the cancer center set me up with an oncologist surgeon. After some tests I was setup for surgery which went well. I still had some occasional bleeding,but was told that was normal. And after a week or so the bleeding was completely stopped. But I have numb feet and burning finger tips. A gift of neuropathy from the chemotherapy. But you look and sound fabulous! I’m so happy for you.

I just got a critical high positive FIT. I was contacted by the clinic who said the could give me a consult in January. Is that normal? I am kinda scared. thank you in advance.

🎉 I went for Bulk Reduction with Hipec in February. It was the worst surgery iv had. They weren't able to do the Hipec due to the cancer being too extensive. I'm still trying to put this experience behind me. But looking back I'd do it again. It's very successful for alot of cancers in the abdomen.

I’m so glad that you put that bit on the end, that you would do it again. I am having that done in 3 days time and I’m terrified. Thank you 🙏
