I've used them quite a bit for my own kitchen and building work. They are very expensive relative to traditional skips but they are extremely convenient and avoid all the hassle of council permits, particularly with smaller jobs. They have always collected within 5 working days for me thus far. It is also worth considering a grab-truck/muck-away service for large volumes of loose material like soil or hardcore. Always shop-around and cost all the options.

That's the only Hippo truck I have ever seen. I almost got a bag this summer, that's when I realised they do take plasterboard but went for a local skip in the end as I had so much crap in the barns the plasterboard never got a look in. Does the bag hold water, it'll keep the kids happy during a summer holiday if you fill it up 😁😁

Good idea in principle but unfortunately you failed to mention the frustration of trying to get the things collected. My two sons both had Hippo bags this year and had a similar experience. One (in Surrey) waited three weeks the other (Lancashire) waited two weeks. In both cases it took a lot of effort to chase up the service. So, easy to get the bags, easy to part with your money but in the end too difficult to actually get rid of the rubbish and in the meantime your neighbours are having to put up with a bright yellow eyesore!

Good vid guys, I've used them a few times when needs must, permits or busy road with loads of parked cars. Handy thing about them is you can lay them out when timing suits, unlike a skip that can get in the way of materials coming to site. I do wonder if they'd lift over a car though? I've had it in the past that a neighbour will take a skip on their drive, that was handy 😉

My only complaint with them is how long they take to collect the bags when you call them. They always seem to have a list of excuses why it takes so long. Personally I use a local grab truck company, few OSB sheets on the ground, then you can pile on 10 tonnes of rubbish for collection, so much cheaper.

Good idea for having in the van. There’s always that time a big job breaks out otherwise you’d be piling stuff up on the lawn. The skip companies around our way must be running low, they’re constantly on trying to collect. At least with these the timing is up to you.

Really? If I looked out of my window and saw anything being lifted over my car or van I'd be very unhappy, I'm sure they are adequately insured against damage. But insurance doesn't cover all the inconvenience caused. That said if parked cars are the problem, that is probably the reason that a skip is not being used, if you have followed the stipulated requirements of load and location, parked vehicles are not your problem, it is on that company to overcome the issue. Only 10 bags a time over several weeks all for free (tip a 5min drive away). Wasn't commercial waste so wasn't illegal. Looked at hippo but not lifting over parked cars killed that idea. @TheStevenWhiting
@TheStevenWhiting 4 года назад
@Flat Bastard Engineering Channel Yes its very difficult. I wasn't familiar with the service at all having never even ordered a skip. Saw them some months ago and decided would be cheaper. Went to buy and at no point do they make it clear they don't lift over parked cars. Its not obvious if you're not in the trade and never dealt with stuff like this before. Why is it difficult? One my car isn't as large as their lorry so they'd be other cars in the way. Secondly I live in an old Victorian terrace house with little to almost no front garden ( but big enough for a hippo bag). Parking on one side of the road is restricted to one hour so everyone parks on the house side. You virtually never get to park outside the house and those that are you never know who they belong too. All because near a Kerbab takeaway, a beauty parlour down road and various other businesses where the workers and customers, and they have every right to, park down on ourside of the road.
@TheStevenWhiting
@TheStevenWhiting 4 года назад
@Flat Bastard Engineering Channel Did you not read that properly? People outside of the area park outside as well due to local shops, so you never know who the cars are. Secondly, I can't stand it when people say "my neighbours ask permission to park outside my house". Why? They all pay tax and are entitled to park where they like, within highway code, on any street. You can't demand they don't park outside your house.
