The national anthem of the Malagasy Democratic Republic - also known as the Democratic Republic of Madagascar from its French name (République Démocratique de Madagascar) - a socialist state that existed on the island nation of Madagascar from 1975 to 1992. The anthem is widely known by its incipit "Ry, Tanindrazanay malala ô!", meaning "Oh, our beloved Fatherland!", though it is often translated from the French version as "Oh, beloved land of our ancestors!" (Ô, Chère Terre de nos ancêtres !). It has been used continuously since 1959, even before and after the existence of the Democratic Republic, but this particular recording was performed by the Malagasy People's Army in 1977.
