I'm so glad you listened to this one, it's my absolute favorite Hiromi Trio song. What an amazing group, each member has the same great time feel and it's spectacular that they can recreate it all live while seamlessly fitting in a totally unique improvised section, and all of it super super fast. I love jazz, this is ideal jazz!

This is just a masterpiece !! All 3 play so well together and it's such a fun listening and watching them ❤. I discovered Hiromi Uehara a few years ago and I consider her as a piano magician. Everything she does is magic. I advise you to listen to one of her compositions " Firefly ". I rarely heard something so emotionnal.

Hiromi and Chick Corea have a concert recording called "Duet", and it's one of my favorite albums by each player. Check it out.

seconded. Based on your reaction at the end, you're gonna be blown away by their dueling grand piano set. The youtube title is: Chick Corea & Hiromi Uehara Medley上原ひろみ&チックコリア.flv If you can ignore the server juggling silverware in the back, it's the best performances of their collaborations. Real magic

Hiromi is up there with the great piano jazz players and is a true virtuoso as well as an excellent composer and one of the great all time improvisers in my opinion. The fact that she collaborates with varied and interesting musicians means she always finds something new. She gets to know the other musicians and starts writing for their styles and strengths. There's a Live version of 'Move' which is incredible and I also recommend 'Alive' recorded live in the studio with the Trio Project. Her other projects are great, especially Sonicbloom and their album 'Time Control' which is the 124th top Prog Album of all time on ProgArchives. Her duo with the harpist Edmar Castaneda 'Fire' has Chick Corea 'La Fiesta' similarities. Also her solo albums are amazing. I'll be seeing her live for the 4th time in London in November.

You should watch her at the Henry Wood Promenade concert in London. She not only blows the place apart, but it is great to watch the faces of the orchestra as she displays her amazing musicality. Saw her with this line up in London some years ago outstanding......

I'm glad that you give kudos to the great, and sadly late, Anthony Jackson. Like Simon he has played with just about everyone of the greats over the years, and for this project he's the natural choice to keep it all together. My personal favorite piece with the trio, and one I'm sure would leave you in sheer awe, is this : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-e15Bg-tBSt0.htmlsi=td8sxSGbpBxED6f_

All 4 studio albums Hiromi did with The Trio Project -- Jackson & Phillips on every one -- are fantastic. I also found a live show of them here and had pretty much your same reaction. They did some live stuff with Steve Smith (a killer musician and phenomenal drummer) when Phillips wasn't available and it's really good. But the stuff with Phillips is the truly special sauce. She's one of a kind.

Some of my fondest musical memories are in going to see Hiromi at Yoshi's in Oakland. We were music majors and when she was in town for a few nights, a group of us would go every night and see both sets. We got up and danced on occasion because Hiromi and this trio were just so intoxicating. Better than any drug. if remember, we also randomly ate cream puffs with her after one of the shows. From those performances I actually learned that I was not supposed to be a music major, but that, following Hiromis lead, I should seek the thing that I can do with love and joy and dedication. I did, and I am very grateful for that lesson, and for the immensely beautiful 🎵

I have been a fan of Jazz and Fusion music since the 1970s, and no keyboard player's playing has thrilled me as much as Hiromi's playing.

Thank you for introducing me to an artist I didn't know about in a genre I enjoy! I looked into the band, Simon Phillips is on drums, he was in Toto from 1992 to 2014, it's interesting how much of the Japanese music I love has people from Toto on it! And the bass player is Anthony Jackson, he's played on loads of stuff going way back, he was on Me And Mrs. Jones by Billy Paul. Akiko Yano (YMO) has a jazz trio which might interest you - Chris Parker from Stuff is the drummer and Will Lee, who's best known from David Letterman's house band, is the bass player.

I saw her twice at the Montreal Jazz Festival. I didn't know her before, so I didn't know what to expect. I always buy a membership card for the festival so after selecting the show I want, I choose some randomly to make discoveries. When she arrived on stage, she was dressed like a teenager going to a rave more than someone playing jazz. I was stunned! Her technique was impeccable! The only thing that could be better was that she may be lacking feeling at the time. The second time I saw her a few years later, she was absolutely great!

NICE! I haven't listened to a lot of her but this is my favorite piece of hers - tho I never saw this particular performance, so cool to see the variations here! It's so badass. It sounds like a BOSS. There's a video of a piece by her, Timeout, featuring the guitarist from Mahavishnu Orchestra, that I think a ton of people have seen who've heard nothing else by her. It definitely deserves the popularity it got.

I have her (their) Move album and it's all quality. This is what you call a power trio. I'd also recommend listening to Thundercat (Stephen Bruner) if you're into jazz-funk-pop fusion (and you don't already know about him). The studio stuff is a little more pop oriented with the occasional foray into full-on jazz, but live, the jazz improvisation takes a more prominent roll.
@mrfranksan

Stanley Clarke Band is a 2010 record that won a Grammy. Thundercat's brother. Ronald Bruner, Jr., is the drummer. Hiromi appears on three cuts and wrote one, Labyrinth.

I have an organic bias against piano jazz. So many do it badly. This was a great performance and I sat through to the end. I agree the piece itself had a lot going for it in transition and structure.

Of course Hiromi always makes the day better and to see you surprised too ;) The Trio Project is, in my opinion, one of her strongest lineups, despite the fact that around 2013 Steve Smith replaced Simon Phillips on drums (I don't know the reasons for the change), in any case the quality of both lineups is superlative. However, there is a really stunning recording of Hiromi in duet with Edmar Castañeda, a really spectacular Colombian harpist and that will surely leave you, as we say in Spain, with your mouth open ;) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JiBeeM0gg9g.html There you have the link and the context of the duet is that Edmar played in the same jazz festival as Hiromi opening her performance, Hiromi was so impressed by Edmar's style and quality that she proposed him to do something together and the following year they performed as a duo in the same festival which is where this song was recorded. Hiromi is, without any doubt, one of the best pianists and she must be a very charming person ;) Greetings from Spain ;) (Translation by software)

Steve Smith was the prearranged alternate for the band when Simon Phillips had commitments elsewhere. He didn't replace him as the main drummer.
