At first this song was one of my favourites because it sounded cool. In my mind it formed images of distant lands and memories far passed. It brought me feelings I thought I'd never feel again. Feelings unique only to me, impossible to put into words. Felt weakly only through memories and thoughts of the distant. The MV for the original especially. Everything about this song spoke to me. This cover? Absolutely stunning. I couldn't go a day without listening to it at least once. Some of the lyrics resonated with me, other lines just sounded super cool. A while ago my life changed completely. I'll never be the same person I was, and I doubt I'll meet the people I knew ever again, but I am more than content with that. I listened to this when I got off the ferry in Turku. I was back... home. I listened this when arrived back to Helsinki, home. Home... home. Finland is my home. I was always bullied for being different. It's something they never tell you about immigration. First it was my skin, then my brain. I never fit in anywhere. My family's culture was too different and thus I felt different. Doesn't help that I'm autistic. Home? Hell if this is this my home! I belong somewhere else! Far, far away from these people! These people who ridicule me for existing! It wasn't until I left Finland for the first time in 11 years that I realised it is my home. I'm Argentine, I'm Finnish. In the span of 3 days I'd been in two foreign countries. For one I breathed the air, on the other I actually walked on the soil. On that one we went to Tallinn. It was a class trip. I'll never see these people again. We are graduating and going on entirely separate paths. The relationships I formed will fade. The guy whose number I forgot to ask for will go on and find another girl. Life will go on, but the memories will remain. I feel like a switch flipped in me that week. We had my graduation ceremony where I got a stipend. Two, actually. One private from the principal, the other sponsored. I'm not the same person I was a year ago. I never will be. I have flipped my life around and found who I am. This specific cover has become the anthem of change for me. A permanent reminder of that week, and the week that followed. In the past there was a point at which my voice no longer carried any sound, but I turned it around... This isn't just a favourite, it's the anthem of change. I hope this comment isn't too dramatic.
