I am a 43 year old black female who just had a full rectal biopsy on 4/17/24 to diagnose or rule out Hirschsprung Disease. All my life I have SUFFERED with “chronic constipation” (or so they say/thought). I am awaiting the results (expected this week). If the results confirm HD, I will then move on to having surgery to repair. This is not only a pediatric related disease. It can be misdiagnosed for years and in my case, decades.

Professor D. Question: I am confused with the enema directive. Would not an enema cause problems with promoting a lot old hard bulky fecal matter being stimulated to come out all at once through such a tiny lumen? I was thinking this would be contraindicated because of the damage it could potentially cause during this forced/stimulated evacuation, not to mention the pain that would be experienced by the patient. Maybe stool softeners, but an enema? I was interested in your feedback on this. Thank you!
