"This isn't necessarily the album we needed but what he needed" Saw someone comment this somewhere which helped me see what this album really is. I personally like it but this album is definitely not going to be for everyone, cause it's really a personal album from Kendrick and it focuses more on how he feels than the crazy bars and the club hits. Just my take

Ik this comment is a yr old but just thought I'd give my opinion anyways. This album holds 2cnd in my favs for kendrick albums(1st being TPAB) this is one of my favs bc it tries to get us to show our vulnerability as well as kendrick showing his. This entire album is basically a therapy session and as kendrick is telling us what he's been going through, he tells us his darkest traumas. Showing his traumatic childhood as memories of his life in compton resurfaces and wants us to his him as a "sacrifice" for us to begin our healing process. Ppl don't like this because it tells us to do something none of us like doing, confront our weaknesses and show our vulnerability. Which is why(imo) this album went over a lot of peoples heads

Another amazing entry into Kendrick's discography. If this is what 5 years gives us, he can dip off for another 5 for all I care lol. We're truly witnessing a living legend right before our very eyes, and he's carving his own lane in hip-hop with each album. *Favorite tracks* : United We Grief, N95, Worldwide Steppers, Die Hard, Father Time, We Cry Together, Silent Hill, Savior, Mother I Sober, Mirror

art is definitely subjective and i agree on that point. But this also isnt made for everyone. If you only care about bops, then its not for you. If you wanna be an adult and actually listen and conceptualize what he is talking about, you would understand the beauty in his words and message. Watching some reactors call this album trash and they consider themselves artists themselves is just crazy to me. if you find every song trash on that album and you make music, I seriously wonder what your music sounds like

@@Jgarthebeast well the thing is i do appreciate music for its lyrics and the actual message itself. that’s why i believe to pimp a butterfly is a top tier album. kendrick is very open and vulnerable in this album and that’s i appreciate it but a lot of people won’t like it yet still appreciate it, that’s why i say art is subjective. you don’t have to necessarily love it to understand how meaningful it is

Yo to the guy who didn't like We Cry Together, maybe you've just experienced too much shit to understand it's value as a song. When rappers especially talk about mental health (and even music in GENERAL tries to steer away from sensitive topics), there's no outlet in the world to express how people fight and bottle stuff up. This song is incredible to me because it isn't shying away from the raw instability.
@corylyonsmusic
@corylyonsmusic 2 года назад
An absolute masterpiece, like Ernest said, Kim might be the single greatest artistic song ever made, and for us to think of it when we heard this, tells you exactly how great We Cry Together is. I'm still blown away that the chick isn't even a musician, but an actor. kind of make sense though, because it's more like a play than a song in a way. She did an amazing job though, killed it.

Theory: What if Kodak and Keem are supposed to be about two men and the difference in their upbringings. Both of them have had the same tough upbringings but grew up to be two different people. Kodak has had a string of controversies and legal issues, one of which is the reason why this album faced backlash i.e sexual assault whereas Keem had Kendrick as his role model and didn't fall prey to gang life and instead succeeded in his music which Kendrick takes credit for as a fatherly figure. The reason for the theory is the two interludes - Rich and Savior both of which doesn't have Kendrick at all and how Kodak says he's The Big Stepper and Keem calls himself Mr. Morale. In the end Kendrick wants or hopes he raises his kid to become Mr. Morale in the track "Mother I Sober". So I think this album is all about how one raises their child (Father Time, Mother I Sober) and how the child turns out to be depending on how he's raised (Rest of the other tracks). It's just a theory Credit maneloxAkshay yt

It wasn’t his best but still a masterpiece as expected, and I can understand why it took so long because it’s so different to any other rap album though I think the therapy concept and a few plot points are similar to Santan Dave’s Psychodrama, this is way more experimental however, and songs like Father Time, Crown, Auntie Diaries and Mother I Sober definitely took a long time to perfect

@george yea, I actually agree with the commenter in the video who laid out his reasons for not liking the track. It's not an original idea (wouldn't even say it's better than the other similar songs), it was a generic argument that I would be annoyed having to listen to between a real toxic couple much less a song acting out a toxic couple, and Ernest's defense that it's the underlying meaning that gives value to the song doesn't change my mind because the meaning of "the couple who are both hurting/crying inside lashing out at each other with hurtful words and actions because they don't know how to healthily express their feelings and work through problems" really isn't that deep. It's immaturity and annoying. Maybe the couple have abusive pasts that are the cause for the toxicity, but still, I don't personally take the story of that song to be as deep or thoughtful as it is annoying. I'll admit that R Kelly bar was *hilarious* though 😂
