I cant understand anyone who owns a ShihTzu NOT combing it regularly. Only disability can justify that. Even if you use a groomer, a simple comb-out each night only takes a few minutes. If you do you're own grooming, it's a great time for keeping the paw pads cleaned up, cleaning ears, and trimming nails as needed. Even with those things added the nightly routine takes thirty minutes or less. And that's with a VERY uncooperative boy like mine.

I am extremely impressed on how you took your time and dematted the ears. I have seen many other groomers who are so attached to their clippers and refuse to use scissors that they would rather shave a simple mat.

There’s just some things the dog owners should do between regular grooming. They should brush and comb and definitely keep the hair out of the dogs ears and clean their ears. I use vinegar water on a Q-tip.
