And Michael Kay doesn't want to admit the Mets payroll is only the highest because two pitchers that are not even on the team are still getting paychecks
Love the run the Mets are on. But I can't see them beating the Padres or Dodgers in 7 games. If it was only 5 I'd be more confident. Hopefully I'm wrong
@@PopOutPaulieYou are wrong. Historically the playoffs have been about the teams that get hot at the right time not the best team in baseball look at the braves 21 run nats 19 run diamondbacks run last year its about whos got hot
Okay hold on for a minute, at some point in the second half of the season they legit had an extremely low chance of getting to the postseason via a WC berth (less than a 20% chance which dropped down to single digits at one point) but they benefited from ATL having a bad season with numerous injured players and also several guys who had a under performing season and the NL central was a hot mess of a dumpster fire unquestionably. They were definitely a better team in the 2nd half than they were in the beginning of the year but it was a bit of an uphill battle to see if it would be enough to make up for the earlier losses. I give them credit for being in the position they're presently in which was highly improbable in everyone's mind just prior to the playoffs beginning. They're going to need every player's best contributions to make a successful run and the same holds true for the other teams as well obviously. It's not about who has the highest payroll or best roster but rather who can catch lightning in a bottle as the expression goes with everything coming together perfectly at the right time.
Lindor became the leader of the Mets. He has the talent, the playoff experience, he has his center with his family and when the Mets were struggling he Called the players only meeting and got the rest of the team on board. He won't win the MVP. Ohtani will with his stats but without Ohtani the Dodgers still make the playoffs, and likely still win the division. Without Lindor the Mets have a losing record and a fourth place finish.
Agreed. It's called the "MVP", not "Best Stats Award". Anyone who doesn't think Lindor should win doesn't appreciate the spirit of the award in my opinion.
Well, I don't think the Mets overpaid with Lindor's contract. What you have to factor is in the credibility that such a player brings to the organisation. A guy like Lindor makes your franchise much more appealing to prospective free agents and trade targets. And I don't think he's unperformed on the field, either. He's arguably the best defensive SS in baseball AND he's a lock to pretty much hit 30 HR, 100 RBI, 30 SB. And he's a leader and good example to the other players. He is the anchor piece in the whole puzzle.
Lindor has been a great player, but he doesn't pitch, he doesn't relieve pitchers. He's one of the players and he's doing All Star things! How much did the Yankees pay for A-Roid for the World Series they won. (One) They are not a talentless team winning by luck. I'm not saying they are a fully star loaded team either, but they are beating teams with some studs.
@gthotshot Because that's how sports talk radio works. The hosts make declarations, hoping to generate 4 hours of calls from fans. The hosts are never held accountable for their statements and just move on to the next topic without ever uttering the words, "I was wrong..."
High paid players will not always produce like they’re expected too. Alex Rodriguez the highest paid player only won one championship. In 2009 with the NY Yankees, a team with a roster of high paid players too.
Barry Bonds a 7 time MVP never won a world series. These so call experts know squat about baseball. Lindor is a bonafide MVP. And this year he will lead the Mets to the crown.
Cmon let's not disrespect Pete here. Pete doesn't hit that 3 HR they ain't going anywhere. Also Lindor was 3 for 15 in the NLDS. Like I love what Lindor has done but cmon let's pump the breaks a little.
Crazy how they failed to really mention that they had the best record since June and this isn’t a “ Magic Run “ they had a horrible start to the year. They don’t have crazy name superstars but they are a good team. Only worry about this team is the actual depth in the pen. Aside for two or three guys every pitcher is a coin toss.
The Dodgers are just a worse version of Philly and they’re using their Ace tonight that won’t be ready for Game 1. Outside of Ohtani, they’re not as scary as the Padres.
Michael Kay should like candles to Jesus he was a horrible newspaper writer is a terrible play by play announcer and is a nightmare homer as a radio host can i have the name of his Rabbi?
Lindor is great yet fans forget he had his issues. From the dumb thumbs down debacle to his big personality and colored hair like Reyes styling than hitting great. He became a great leader now and is humble and did hits like an MVP.
"Big personality"? 🤔 Having personality is an issue? Having *dyed hair* is an issue? 😂 The thumbs-down thing was immature, but I blame Kevin Pillar and Javy Baez more for that, since they were veterans who were supposed to be setting a better example.
@@jamesmorseman3180 Did Mets fans forget the thumbs down thing? How much they hatred him for that? Yet he became a better leader from that. he wasnt this humble player all his career.
@@SteveDave211 bro I couldn’t care less about the thumbs down thing he’s not leading the fans he’s leading the players in the clubhouse and guess what? He’s been an amazing clubhouse leader his entire career evidenced by literally every one of his teammates saying so, past and present
