I graduated with a 2.4 / 4 GPA in Computer Science because of mental health issues, but I've always loved Mathematics and Computer Science. You don't understand what your channel means to someone who always wanted to go for higher studies, but literally all doors have closed because of my GPA. Because of your recommendations, I don't have to flounder, just pull random books from libraries, try and solve them, and get frustrated. Thank you so much for all your content! God Bless, please keep up the good work!

I would wager that if you publish a few good papers and you get an excellent score in a GRE subject test pertinent to the studies to you want to pursue AND get your mental health issues get taken care of you'll get in, at a minimum, a masters degree where you can test your mental health under the pressure and duress of a graduate degree, see if you like to pursue further graduate studies, get even better prepared for a PhD and get a better GPA before applying to a Doctorate. But before you take another student loan to study in the USA my advice would be to search for programs overseas with no minimum GPA requirements. I say overseas because if you go to India or come to Latin America your dollars will go WAY further than in the US and you will need to borrow a lot less. In some cases you will not need to borrow anything at all. In China you often don't pay anything (and as a foreigner can easily support yourself teaching English ten hours a week like one of my friends does) and in many Mexican programs you get paid a living stipend. I don't know how things are in India or elsewhere but really you loose nothing from checking outside of your country. The only caveat is that you might need to learn the language first. If this is the case learn Spanish. We are warm, weather is nice, food is delicious and the country is cheap. And if you move to Merida, Yucatan, then you will be in the second safest city in all of America, safer than any USA city, if that is something that worries you. Finally, if you have publications, solid test scores and have truthfully you mental health issues under control and they can no longer keep you from performing well, then I'll say you really loose nothing applying to just about any PhD that doesn't require a minimum GPA and, rarely, students with low GPAs do get accepted. Just don't gloos over it. Address it in your statements. “ I didn't perform well in my undergraduate studies for this problem that is now fixed" and only apply to PhDs and Masters when it is true that you got those issues fully under control. I failed two masters for exactly your reasons. Got help, finish a master and I am now applying to Stanford. I have a different RU-vid channel where I document the process in both Spanish and English and if you think that is something that would help you I can link the channel here. It is very productive what you are doing with your spare time. It is very conductive to achieving your goals, but I would advice you to do it with intent. Do it with the intensity that you would if you knew that you are preparing yourself for grad school. Maybe do it in ultradian cycles listening to 40 hz sounds or binaural beats that help you focus and learn better. Study and build that study and work habits that will help you in your grad studies because you will go to graduate school. Finally, look at all the amazing programs this girls got into with a very low GPA (she is ashamed to disclose it, but says that a 3.3 is amazing to her and hers is lower) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3qQZ63muDac.html

If you're in the USA, I suggest you enter a graduate program by taking courses as a nonmatriculated student. Show them you are serious and I can almost guarantee you that they will allow you to matriculate,

I'm pretty much in the same boat when it comes to my GPA as well. Someone suggested to me to shop around at the many online colleges and universities. I was told that many of these schools that offer online masters degree programs for working adults don't take GPA into consideration upon entry, but only want you to have a degree from an accredited college or university. You'll obviously want to make sure that the online school or program is accredited.

Between these, higher algebra by hall and knight, and the rudins, you really have some excellently rigorous math books! I got Lang's basic mathematics at your recommendation and I've never learned so much from so few examples. Older math books really hit you hard with the concepts in a way that can be daunting but rewarding for those with will and persistence! Thank you for the continued exposure to excellent math content and for bringing higher math out of the shadows so to speak. As someone who lacked early exposure to this material I deeply appreciate it!

Great job. I would also recommend the old MIR publication classic N Piskunov - Differential and Integral Calculus Vol I and II. Excellent one for someone who wants to revisit Calculus. I have these published by CBS publishers and distributors, India. Saw a recent video of yours on Higher Algebra by Bernard and Child- from India. Being an Indian, I can say that these olden goldies are still in circulation here either at new or at old bookstores even today!

On a similar note -- you may want to check out David Morin's books. He is the Harvard undergraduate physics director. The preprints of many of his books are freely available online. Also, could you create a playlist with all your book reviews and make an episode of the most niche topic/rare math books you've collected?

David Morin is a great teacher and writer. I have read his 'Relativity for the Enthusiastic Beginner' - a really engaging book on Special Relativity. On a similar vain of forgotten maths you might enjoy "A Book of Curves" by E. H. Lockwood, it covers such arcane curves as the Nephroid, Limacon, Glissettes etc. a real gem which I first came across in my school library over 40 years ago, I think I was the only one who read some of these books. I always remembered it and eventually got a copy on eBay, I hope if you can still find it you will enjoy it as much as I did.

Hello my friends, I want your help. In fact, I am not a foreigner and my English is not very good, but I am working on improving it. I want to learn mathematics from foreign references and books because they are more reliable. Also in reality I have an obsession with space science and I must have a strong foundation in integrations, so my question is: Is this book reliable and completely free of mistakes, and is it a good explanation of the ideas in it?

I started watching your videos almost a year ago. Since then, I bought an assortment of textbooks you recommended, I refreshed myself on Calculus up to Linear Algebra, and I rejoined Academia with the intent of pursuing my Master's in mathematics. My first of two post-bacc semesters (this semester) I got straight A's in Linear Algebra, Multivariable Calculus, and some meager Algebra for Business course. I plan on getting straight A's in Real Analysis and Abtract Algebra next semester, and straight A's in the handful of courses I picked out for the summer... then begins my 2 year Master's program (all expenses paid by a graduate assistanceship I managed to net)! Thanks for all the help you've been, Math Sorcerer! Hopefully, in a few years, I'll be teaching calculus, same as you! That's partly my goal: to teach advanced mathematics at the collegiate level whilst I pursue my PhD. Thanks again, man!

@@TheMathSorcerer Thank you for the advice, this channel is a jewel. It feels more like the type of study I like to delve in, from the depth of principia and logic to the practicalities/ applied mathematics, given that I see it as a language. One thing that I can observe, and something I think Lockhart's lament tried to convey, it's that mathematics should be studied as a language above anything else and to be constantly editing yourself (as we are often taught or forced to) in fear of a bad grade or a stylistic prescription only constitutes a tampering of the type of creativity process (poietics in Greek terms) that is proper of math, that sort of empiricism implied by so many philosophers like Hegel or Kant, even Vitruvius. Your attempt at education goes much more in between the lines of the natural methods for leaning languages, if such a thing exit for maths: I'd like to compare it to the situation regarding Latin in Italian schools, it's taught in such decontextualized and deformed way that it's expected that most students fail to grasp any sort of interest, let alone keep it long enough as to be able to learn it, while there are methods that aim for constant empiricist practice that delve into the functionality of the language by internalizing it's functionality in context with real vocabulary and usage.

I love old books! I have a copy of the Practical Mechanic, from 1879, that belonged to R.D. Tackaberry, who was a prominent inventor from the area. He went on to hold a number of patents in all sorts of things from textile industry and beyond. He was 15 when he got that book. which he must have spent a months wages on, since it was $2.50 at the time. It's a fascinating trip into the past, as it is filled with his handwritten notes (in quill ink!) including summations of sections, and even corrections regarding gear tooth profiles and stuff. It's one of my most prized possessions. :)

Can you make math more boring? What a boring and pointless hobby.

@@austingubbels I was expecting something more from this channel, maybe throw some new light on abstract math concepts. Not a daily discussion on out of print, lifeless math books, that are reason math is boring in the first place.

All light that there is to throw on mathematics is contained hidden away in great books. Great insight is only to be found after hundreds of hours of deep thought, and these authors have graciously planned and laid out an efficient path to those insights. Deep understanding takes time, and it is through books where we attain this. I find Math Sorcerer's showcasing of older and newer books exciting because in all of those books there lies thousands of hours of potential mathematical joy.
