After the Second World War Alexander Glasberg (1902-1881), a hero of the French Resistance and a fascinating personality, founded a remarkable organisation (COS) to support refugees, provide homes for the elderly, and to retrain the disabled. This organisation, now "La Fondation COS Alexandre Glasberg", is today one of the leading players in provision of social-medical care in France. Here his nephew Nick Lampert introduces the work of COS based on a visit to 8 different centres in 2018, filmed by Jill Lampert. Alexander Glasberg’s work was driven by very progressive ideas (great respect and maximum autonomy for residents and patients, and a big emphasis on collaboration among staff), far ahead of its time. How far has the organisation been able to maintain the ideals with which it started? Nick and Jill Lampert find a striking continuity, meeting wonderful staff and observing inspirational practice. The film is in French, with English subtitles.
