Ren’s acoustic versions and voice when singing with an acoustic is very much like Jose Feliciano who is a blind guitarist most famous for writing Feliz Navidad and performing his own acoustic versions of hit songs such as Light My Fire and California Dreaming. I once tweeted this observation to Ren and he liked the tweet 😁 He’s obviously been influenced by him somewhere. He also says in Losin It that the definition of music is Stevie Wonders Superstition honouring another blind legend who has greatly influenced him. I met Ren in Brighton last Summer and he is as amazing as you think he is. Almost Godlike. I can feel and see how much you resonate with this track Aaron. Ren has given us such a powerful acoustic version of Troubles. You can hear that he still finds a lot of what he went through difficult and sense how he keeps a lot of it at a distance even now, despite the fact that he can talk about everything in more detail these days. I love how Ren can ‘let go’ and give away so freely the gifts of his beautiful voice and music, the two things he strived really hard to reclaim and master during the worst part of his illness, at a time when he was left with nothing both physically and emotionally. He chooses not to cling to his gifts but share them with us and the universe, which is amazing considering these are the only things that brought him any relief and peace. Because of his ability to release with such passion his inner thoughts, fears and feelings so beautifully expressed through his lyrics and melodies; we all get to benefit through connection and understanding. Ren is showing others how to release their own pent up physically emotional difficulties and troubles which is incredibly cathartic and liberating for those of us who hear his message. I can hear how you struggle at times with what you are dealing with Aaron, but like Ren you rise about and give out love and reject any bitterness and negativity from others (such as Scru). The art of letting go and accepting what and who we are and freeing up the mind, body and soul is so wrapped up in what Ren is and does. This track, is so beautiful because he tells his story without hanging on to regret and choosing for it to be a chapter of his life and not let it be the whole story, because he knows he can write his victory over hardship one song at a time no matter what his life throws at him.
