Hello everyone! I hope you all enjoy the video. I know that this one is a bit on the shorter side of things as far as many of my other lore videos go, but I didn't want to make this video long for no reason; I felt as though I'd said all that I'd needed to. Also, I should note that this video is not a comprehensive study of the entire history of the Hist, it is more a study of what a Hist is, and there relationship with the Argonians and Tamriel. I could've gone on a included things such as the Sleeping Tree from Skyrim or the Hist Tree in Leyawiin stolen by the Blackwood Company, but those things are not important in understanding the broader narrative. I know I've been a bit of a Bethesda doomer lately, as well, so I'm hoping to have a more positive video out soon about the Elder Scrolls series . Stay tuned for live streams and further smaller uploads as I have a lot of content planned for the future. The dumbing down of the lore and world is the thing that hurts the most about this series. I'd be fine with the simplified mechanics in each entry if they didn't take the known lore and just change it all the time for the worse. The older lore of the Nords and Skyrim is badass, with the Celtic influence, the flying whales, the Gehenoth, Floaters, and all that cool stuff. In Skyrim, we really get generic fantasy, with generic fantasy lore and creatures. At this point I don't even want to explore Argonia because it'll be completely watered-down from what I would hope to see, and would make learning about it even more frustrating because every time a new entry comes, the old lore then becomes "what could/should have been" and feels kind of worthless to learn in the first place because it has no place in the series going forward. I care more about the future of Morrowind's modding future with projects like Home of the Nords and Tamriel Rebuilt than I care about Bethesda's continuation of the series because it feels like the modders truly care more about the series than BethSoft.
I firmly believe that the larger a company becomes, the less deep their content has to be in most cases. They used to need to sell to their regular demographics to make a profit before, but now the studios are so large and the scope and budget of the games is so huge that they can't just sell it to the core audience, they need to sell the game to everyone. Why would you put more effort in the lore and connecting it to the world a player exists in when you can create more fun enjoyable mechanics or sth.
I like the occasional inserts of a meme here and there that you did with this video, or maybe you've done it with previous videos and I just haven't noticed it. , and isn't so frequent that it's annoying. Also, I've been wanting to watch a video about the Hist for ages, it's always been something I've been a bit aware of but never really looked into. So I'm glad you made this video.
I usually don't include memes in my videos, but sometimes if I see an opportunity to fit one in I will. I usually try to make them more subtle though. Thanks for the comment!
Do you think Bethesda should add a new playable race ? I would personality like Maormer or The Lefthanded Elves (assuming next TES game is in Hammerfell )
I think a new playable race could be really cool. We were talking on stream about how they could even add a playable race in a DLC in the future for TES VI or something like that as a way to get people to buy (although I'd much rather have it at launch). I think at the end of the day I want to see the racial choices matter more to your gameplay experience, like how they do in BG3.
