Actually, Rome did use cavalry units. They've used them since the Roman kingdom times, albeit as scouts and skirmishing forces during the punic wars. Though It wasn't until the time of Julius Ceasar that Rome really started to use cavalry in combat, even then the purely roman units were very few and used as shock cavalry.

5:02 No a decent part of Rome's armies were horses, specifically at Cannae but earlier in the war as well.

If you want more detail information about the Punic Wars. There are a couple of history channels that covers it. OS content is for a younger demographic. It helps them to understand, be entertained, and gradually be invested in that historic topic.

Yeah man not to sound like a hater buuuut it’s an interesting choice as a historian to question what he’s talking abt w the cavalry and then not check for yourself. Isn’t the point of the reaction to add insight to it? Like it’s not a very difficult thing to check

You are indeed wrong about Roman Cavalry. Roman Cavalry was enough of a thing that there was a *whole* subclass of the 1st class of citizens that was called as 'Knights' (as in the horse riding sort: 'Equites', same rute as 'equine') because since they could afford to furnish and mantain horses for war and the appropiate equipment and training for them (something obviously only possible for the richest) their role in the armies was to be the cavalry (actually the 'heavy cavalry'). In the descriptions of the battles of the Punic Wars and others it's clearly specified if the Cavalry was 'Roman' or 'Allied' (that is, Socci'). Roman Cavalry usually fulfilled more the role of 'Heavy' cavalry (which basically but not fully had the role of later modern Dragoons, given the lack of adequate stirrups for proper horse support and armed shock charges) For instance, in Cannae consul Emilius Paulus was leading the Roman Cavalry, which made some historians especulate that actually he was the leading consul de day of the battle and that was covered later up by Polybius (as mentioned in the video, friend of Paulus direct descendant). Maybe not, since Paulus was the senior Consul of the two and maybe that's why that possition was awarded to him in the battle or... honestly, who knows. Maybe they even draw lots or the Roman Cavalry were more used to Paulus... On other note, allied (socii) cavalry in this era was not gaulish (that only starts to happen, I think in the very very late republic). I think they were more allied Italians with a better cavalry tradition than the Romans (I think Lucanians and Ligurians and some Etrurians had better horse practice, but I might be mistaken there, need to review the sources there...). Back to Roman Cavalry, in the late republic and early empire, the 'Knight' class, while conserving this denomination, started to not be the *only* source of Roman heavy cavalry, and in fact, 'Equites' was more a name artifact and it become more as a byname for 'richer portion of the 1st class'. They were usually FAR richer than most but the most succesful of the senatorial families, since they could engage in trading, non land based business (while a Senator's business had to be tied to land).

Okay I've watched you for a while, but that beginning little comment about Oversimplified claiming reactions was just stupid. It's his content. He's not taking it down, he clearly doesn't have an issue with the post itself, he just likes to have the money from his content. Vlogging through History is a perfect example that Oversimplified is even friendly to a few of the history reaction channels that watch his stuff. And Vlogging never complains about the loss of money, because for him it truly is just about the content itself. I'm not saying you should be fine going broke for RU-vid, but that's just how OS reactions go. Painting the situation as "pirating" is weird as hell, like, the video is already free. The video is already accessible to everyone. You're not taking some movie from a billion dollar company and giving people the chance to watch it without paying, you're just trying to make money off of an already free form of entertainment. Vlogging's method for instance is perfect. He's fine with OS taking the money, because what he gains from the vids is the growth to his channel, which then benefits the original content that he makes that he does make money off of, like his Civil War battlefield tours. Painting OS as like they're some company gatekeeping their content is really weird.

Like by all means, I will always support taking from large companies, but that mindset just feels shitty when you transfer it over to taking the content of other RU-vidrs.

Yeah, I found that pretty weird because unless you're heavily editing to show the best reactions, which is actually what TheFineBros did, you're basically just reposting someone else's whole video and putting your reaction on top of it. When people complain that most reaction channels steal content, that's because they kind of do.

The reason rome just keep losing is their stubborness of jumping head first into a battle They dont want to do trickery cuz it's Dishonorable Like in cannae They could've enveloped hannibal from their back rather than charging all of their infantry in a single direction which makes the other infantry unable to fight as they are in the back not used to fight

Oversimplified does not claim reaction videos its the company AD Sense that flags reactions that company is a mess,Vlogging through history had a huge problem with his Oversimplified reactions getting flagged,he had to personally message Oversimplified and he said he has never copy claimed a reaction it is ad sense, oversimplified is looking for a different company that will not damage reaction channels but has had no luck yet, vlogging through history has done some videos about the interaction with oversimplified if you want to watch them, but thank you for this amazing reaction

Since you asked about the cavalry here's the introduction from the battle "The battle of Ticinus was fought between the Carthaginian forces of Hannibal and a Roman army under Publius Cornelius Scipio in late November 218 BC as part of the Second Punic War. It took place in the flat country on the right bank of the river Ticinus, to the west of modern Pavia in northern Italy. Hannibal led 6,000 Libyan and Iberian cavalry, while Scipio led 3,600 Roman, Italian and Gallic cavalry and a large but unknown number of light infantry javelinmen."

it is honestly the reason I don't like you much, and have previous beef. You care far too much about the views and money over the history. If you contributed something of meaning to the video then I say you could make a case about them claiming your reaction. I just don't see that here. and yes I still say you should have watched "The Sanitary Movement" from extra history because of its history and importance.

For the most part, this guy just stood there watching in silence the entire time, not contributing anything. It's lazy and parasitical "content".
