This is a very pleasant journey through Williamsburg. It is quiet, informative and well filmed and edited. Great job. I just watched this with my 10 year old to get her a feel for the times. It is much better than commercial productions.

Many thanks for the kind words. We sure had fun the day we were there. I just wish we had more time to spend in Colonial Williamsburg. Thanks for viewing and posting your thoughts. I do appreciate it. Dave.

Enjoyed watching your video. Live 30mi from Williamsburg , used to love going there when younger to walk around and explore. Many of the Founding Fathers walked those same streets. Anyone who studies colonial history should visit.

Randy, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment (twice) on my video. Some people think it is like a Disneyland, but I (and others) consider it living history. What a great way to connect with our past. We need more opportunities like this. This is a perfect way to teach and appreciate our past. I am pleased that my little video gave you a little insight. Enjoy your stay at Colonial Williamsburg! It is fantastic! Dave.

Thanks for the nostalgia my friend! Born and raised by a history teacher for a father and this is my favorite destination in America. Gettysburg is a close second.

@oxford14 Thank you for the kind words. Yes, it is a beautiful place indeed! My camera problem was a blessing in disguise. An upgraded camera now lets me shoot in High Definition. I am pleased that you are enjoying my travel videos. Too much to see, so little time!

I love the nature sounds along the way...so many birds! It helps create the feeling that one is truly back in the 1700's.

+Jonah Ullman Thanks for watching and taking time to comment. This is a small piece of living history that helps all of us appreciate the past. This is a great environment to learn, hands-on instead of reading a history book. Dave.

I was in Colonial Williamsburg twice for 2 different vacations and I loved it! I was pretty young when I went might I add. Id like to say 19 and 21? It was close to 15 years ago now and it looks like they are adding a lot more. There are so many cool things to do that arent even mentioned in this video. Theres tours, shows, shopping, and the taverns you eat in are awesome! The food is amazing. I highly recommend to anyone interested!

Thank you the trip was so amazing and I absolutely loved the living history. I may be posting a video on it. I got a tour with my school and that made it more enjoyable for me. Thanks so much for replying and I'm glad so many people love Williamsburg and the concept of living history!!

Thanks for viewing and commenting. A person needs to be into "living history" in order to benefit from a full day there. A special place for some folks, a pass for others. I am glad my video helped you decide. Thanks again! Enjoy your stay in a wonderful city. Dave.

Thank you for posting this. It's wonderful. I do have a suggestion if you add more videos. Sometimes when you asked a question of the locals, like the things on the brick building that the local also added were convenient for hanging holiday decorations... I couldn't hear his original answer because he was too far from the camera. Maybe you could repeat what they say for the viewers when you're closer to the mic. It was great to see this video since I can't actually go there at this time. Also, with the AMC TV series "Turn" being partially filmed there, it's very interesting.

+P Taylor Many thanks for watching and commenting. Your suggestion is well taken, thank you! The camera used for this production did not have an external microphone so I should have anticipated poor audio quality that would require me repeating answers for my audience. Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it. The real answer for the holes in the brick was made during constriction. These voids anchored the scaffolding to the building and some, but not all of the voids were filled when the scaffolding was removed. Yes, this is an interesting way to teach history, by reliving it! Thanks again! Dave in Montana.

+davidegg22 Thanks, David. Have you been watching the television show "Turn?" It's excellent, although they've taken license with some of the real characters. Appreciate the insight. Montana is beautiful. I've been in Los Angeles for years, but I'm a Colorado Rockies kid from way way back. Have a nice evening.

You use the word "restored" quite often, but the reality of CW is that much of it is reproduction, not restoration. CW was created to look as it does. Many of the "modern" homes that were there before Rockefeller arrived were either torn down or moved. Still, I grew up there and it has a special place in my heart.

Thanks for your comments! Sometimes my narration needs clarification! Since I was a "day tourist" in the area I really didn't know what I was talking about! Thanks again for watching and commenting! Dave in Montana.

If interested. My Great Great Grandfather was Rodger Williams! Were here since 1620. Is Williamsburg named after a relative?

You can still see CW without buying passes. You can walk along Duke of Gloucester Street and see everything from the outside and view the outside events.

I am surprised you didnt video tape. one of the historical figures giving a speech. For instance I got to participate in a discussion with Thomas Jefferson after one of his speeches. It was the best part of the trip. Overall however at least it gave those who watch it a good feel for what it at least looked like.

Yes, go to the Bruton Parish Church on the Palace Green DOG street; the church yard surrounding the building is full of graves back to the 1600's. Walked through it at least one hundred times when I was a student at W&M in the 70s

As a resident of the town and a graduate of W&M, I can say that, physically, it is beautiful...the area and the buildings. However, the social culture you encounter if you live here is something entirely different. For some reason, not entirely sure why, this small town is a magnet for losers from the NJ/Philly region. They couldn't cut the mustard there, so they come here and try to impress everyone with the fact that they lived up there (but here, for some reason, these "winners" live in scummy apartments, drive junkers and work some low-end jobs). Another negative about this culture is the omnipresent yuppies from NoVA....always rude and an annoyance in everyday life. Ignore these groups, which comprise the overwhelming majority of the town's population, and it is a nice place to live.

funny you say this. i am actually from that area and was thinking of moving to williamsburg to escape these people. they outcast me in middle school because i didn't conform to the douchey standard. that's the way the area is up here. it sucks.
@the_gilded_age_phoenix8717
@the_gilded_age_phoenix8717 10 лет назад
richardjamtmanniii If your goal is to escape the Jersey/Philly mindset, Williamsburg, VA isn't the place for you. Here, you will be one of a crowd of folks from that region. Their effect on the region is amplified by the fact this is a relatively small place (in a place like Miami they'd fade into the masses, but here they have become the dominant cultural group). I actually prefer NYC to that Philly/NJ area. I can understand why everyone wants to leave there. The bad thing is...is when they bring that culture with them and try to use it to gain some type of prestige.

Thanks for the video. My wife and I are planning a trip to Williamsburg in about a week and were planning on going to Colonial Williamsburg while we were there. I don't want to sound smart in my reply but I just don't see a $84 plus tax value in it for the both of us. You saved us from wasting our money.

Might as well stare at a wall because this is worse. If you go there you are wasting your life. Write a book, go fishing, run into a mall and yell he's got a gun. All those ideas are better than watching this video
