4 of my ancestors came from Deerfield Massachusetts. During the time of conflict between the English, French and natives.Starting in 1704, 1707 with Mathias Farnsworth Phaneuf, Sara Alen ,Abigale Nimms and Josiah Rising.They were survivors of the raids and massacures that took place early in Deerfeild history and settling. They were forced to see friends,family members, parents massacred by the natives who took them captive and on a long 250 or so miles in the winter snow to Quebec. All my ancestors ended up eventually staying in Canada and Josiah and Abigale ended up marring. Sara Alen my G.G. of grandmothers became a catholic, married my G.G. of grandfathers Guillaume de LaLonde and her name became Marie Madeleine de LaLonde.I never knew her history and what she endured until I discovered her birth name.She was only 12 years old and witnessed the brutal death of one of her parents and was carried most of the way on the back of her native captor, and is probably how she managed to survive. I'm so proud of this strong child and woman, who had around 15 children and lived to about 81-84 years of age. I'm honored by all 4 of these ancestors and their stories of survival and endurance. I truly respect them and am proud to have their blood and DNA running in my veins.Someday I would love to visit Deerfield and walk the ground that they lived and walked.She spoke 3 languages from this turbulent time in her life,English,Indian from her captors while she was held captive and eventually French from her adopted country she setteled in and stayed the remainder of her life by her choice..
I really appreciate that you posted this video here. I am a direct descendent of the ALLEN family who figured prominently in the 1704 massacre. I hope to someday get to Deerfield in person.
