Those neighborhoods used to be swamps or grasslands. Unbridled development. What do you expect?

At some point somebody has to declare that areas near rivers are uninhabitable and just buy out the land and fence it off. It's the equivalent to building houses in a flood plain.

The Anclote and Cotee rivers have been dealing with rain for years. But the problem now (besides climate change) is the rampant overdevelopment!!! The rivers’ natural drainfields are being destroyed and replaced with new developments. Here’s the result. And they just decimated the whole Little Road Massachusetts/Plathe Road for obnoxious amount of development. Cotee River area will be next with future rains.

I live in Pasco county off 54 and we were stuck in our subdivision due to flooding it thank god our homes didn’t get flooded

Maybe houses should not be there in the first place

Living in the nextcounty north Citrus we feel for all of you, our coast is still recovering from Debby but Milton's rain was devastating to our neighbors in Pasco. We will keep you all in our prayers.

My neighbor waited two hours for gas, the lines are in the street, also for coffee drive throughs, the lobbies are closed. Power is being restored, a massive effort, but we are still without, also on boil water notice. Traffic lights are out. Inconveniences but nothing as devastating as what some of these folks are experiencing and anyone that was living on the beach. Please donate what you can, tell your senators and reps to fund FEMA and stop denying climate change. Actions count, not words. Be grateful everyday for what you have and for the normalcy of life, even the annoying things that we take for granted. Reality can change very easily.

Nice to see west Pasco County, my old neighborhood, getting airtime. So much has changed in the past 20+ years and not for the better. Way too built up along the Cotte River and the swamplands west of US-19. No surprise that it has been flooded out by the 2 recent hurricanes. Glad I wasn't dealing with this when I lived there. Stop the overbuilding of the flood plains.

Having my home built on high ground away from swamps and coast I am eternally grateful not going through this. Sad.

Native Floridian here,I would say buying is extremely risky, not just about hurricanes, but homeowners insurance is in crisis in Florida. The recent events are going to make homeowners insurance double again, and Governor DeSantis has done nothing to help residents. He helped the insurance companies companies over the residents.

All i can think about is the price of Home insurance Tripling. Then me moving out of Florida

I just moved back to florida in july...in march I will be moving back out after 15 years away...this is way too much...would be easier cost wise if florida did not have this huge migration of people here

Way too much development at sea level

That area (area in the beginning of the stream), The river has already crested. The areas that are now connected to the river, The water level is going down now. It is down about a foot from last night on the other side of Old 54 road. Other areas not connected will take longer to go down of course. They are not going up in that area anymore though.

It seems no or inadequate environmental impact or geological studies were done before a lot of these homes were built. Some areas of Florida are just unfit for housing development. The builders were negligent.

Well well well.....the Florida Republican Congressional delegation recently voted against increasing FEMAs budget that could help the needy. ..

That area has been flooding for 50 years

Imagine what it would have been like if it didn’t lose a bunch of strength before it hit? You’re looking at a new normal folks. Probably a good idea to research how these storms work, what excellerates them so you can make educated decisions about your futures.

Looks like those houses were built on lower ground than the neighboring area where it was not flooded. This is a development issue more than anything.

They should not build homes there, and the rest of the country shouldn't have to pay for them to build homes on wetlands that get ruined every few years. I heard one person say that in the past 5 or so years, they had significant water flood their home at least 4 times. It's just ridiculous. They can live wherever they want, but stop making the govt and everyone else pay for it through FEMA and higher national homeowners insurance premiums.

ref the fuel if people dont need fuel, dont queue, same as panic buying we had that in uk a few years back, when tanker places went on strike, you end up using any fuel you have trying to find or queue for some , then the pandemic people were panic buying and arguing over toilet rolls ! fingers crossed those still in the area dont get too badly hit by the flood waters that are rising .

Looks like guys generator caught fire and burnt a big hole there in his porch roof. Luckily it didn't spread to the rest of the house. Stay safe people.

Overbuilt

Flooding, gas shortages, power outages and our governor miss managed the who chaos. Duke power trucks in a line of 6 trucks just driving around, 50 to 60 duke power just sitting at Walmart corner of 54 and Little Rd. My power still out, gas is harder to get to keep my generator running and one can’t get a clear answer for any of this. When is our governor going to quit taking raises and start rebuilding and replacing and fixing our infrastructure? It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know, hey look a tree is growing near the power lines, no one cuts it down, Look the river is a mess with trash and debri, let’s clean it out? Nope not our government, pay more get less is Floridas motto. This is wide spread, not just New Port Richey. Ron, you failed us again

This is flooding/water displacement. I hope people understand if the sea levels rise and the sea heats up, it will affect weather systems. I know it seems like dah. But then people still live there. You all should just find a nice place on higher ground.

Just like Texas, people in Florida should feel ashamed to be emptying the coffers of FEMA while people smart enough not to live in a disaster area are lucky to get funds.

DeSantis sent over 400 repair workers and vehicles out of state up north during hurricane season a week before Milton leaving Floridians unprotected and under prepared with delayed response. Want someone to blame for this fiasco it is DeSantis

Small Generator can not activate well pump, now no power, no water, run out gasoline to operate small generator, during waiting for power restoration on this coming Thursday, are we count outage victims?
