Coney Island Hot Weiner Shop opened in 1926 in Tulsa Oklahoma selling its famous hot dogs for 5-cents. It is still operated by same family. Coney Island was started by Christ Economou in downtown Tulsa serving hot dogs with chili and cheese, and customers who dine in sit at small school desks. Christ Economou's son, Jim Economous, took over and is interviewed in this 1995 segment for Jack Frank's documentary "Let's Go Downtown". In 1995 when this story was produced, the Coney Island was on West 4th Street Between Boulder and Cheyenne Avenues, next door to Orpha's Lounge. Coney Island has since relocated to 107 N. Boulder. The business is one of Oklahoma's oldest and has been downtown the enite time at various locations.

My middle son lives in Houston now but when he comes into town his first stop is to go to this Coney Island. He says Houston coneys have nothing on these coneys. They’ve moved a handful of times but the taste and service still the same.
