The Andretti Pennzoil car is about as iconic as you can get, and one of the most beautiful racecars ever.

It would’ve been nice to see/hear it at full speed, but my Son & I witnessed John Sweeney do a 180 into the concrete wall at turn 6 during practice on early Sat. 4/20. 😢 Heartbreaking to hear the tail end get destroyed. I remember my Son yelling at the driver, “That’s it, I could’ve done better than that, the morning just got started!” I know Sweeney heard it, too.

This was Great. The 1991 Pennzoil Lola is Awesome. I was at that event. The 1990 to 2000 era of Cart was some of the best racing. Thanks for the great video. Cheers.

Marshall, Thank you! That '80 Eagle is, for me, the pinnacle of creativity. But thank God for the safety improvements since. What a collection! What history! What am I doing here at work in NYC when I'd rather out there in Long Beach at play? Thanks for the ride!

Awesome and amazing beautiful race cars! Thank you! Excellent camera work and presentation. Marshal is looking like he's made a lot of progress on his weight loss journey. I wasn't sure it was him until the end with his outro. ☮️❤️🎶🏁

Thanks Marshall and Racer. Just awesome. Twenty years from now when aeroscreen cars join these vintage cars I guarantee anyone describing them we’ll say “Yeah these are the aeroscreen cars we have today, great engineering, but over here are the cars I really want to show you!!!…”. Aeroscreen cars will never leave you breathless, and it’s a wonder how it will be able thrive under those circumstances. It’s poignant Marshall that around cars that were enormously dangerous and that resulted in many fatalities, that you say that they are “everything about LIFE”. People who prioritise safety in motorsport above all else shouldn’t be in positions of authority in motorsport. It’s not a life saving pursuit, it’s a life affirming pursuit, and to those like yourself with passion for the sport… “everything else is just waiting”. Hopefully those in charge will come to realise this before it’s too late.

A local (Boise, Id) racer, a name I'm sure older fans (and Marshall!) would recall, is Davey Hamilton. I remember seeing replays of the accident, and his feet were out in front, taking all the punishment as the car went airborne! Likely still has a limp to this day! Great post, MP! Really appreciate your insight! As you spoke of the '66 Eagle, I said 'All American Racers' moments before you did! Not bad for a 69 yr old! Thanks MP! Can't wait for the next post!! OG fan from way, way, way back!!! PS no Penske Sneva car? He and his bros raced here in the 60s and 70s!

Saw ( & heard ) the ‘66 BARDAHL Eagle T2G run at the old “vintage car runs” on Saturday morning, ( the day before the race at IMS ) back in 2016 or 17 ( before Covid ) it was the most amazing sounding Indycar I have ever heard. Open “bundle-of-snakes” headers on the Ford 4-Cam, as it went around the track….. OMG ( i tried to imagine 25 of these circulating IMS at the same time ) WOW what a sound. IMO the ‘66/67 Gurney T2G Eagle is the most beautiful Indycar ever designed. Amazingly.

Marshall, you should have of mentioned who drove the #14 Eagle in that livery at Indianapolis in 1966 ... the great Lloyd Ruby. He was in 1st and running away from the field when his engine failed on lap 166. Lloyd would've also been good at Long Beach. He was one of the few of his era to come up through ovals yet prove to be a very talented road racer, winning the 1966 24 Hours of Daytona as well as Sebring in a GT40 along with co-driver Ken Miles.

I was there and dang near got goosebumps seeing the Pennzoil car cause initially I thought it was Mears car from 89 BUT then I realized it was John's car from 91... Andretti won that race after Mears had a problem late, I think he only led the last lap or 2...
