Linden Grove Cemetery was officially consecrated on September 18, 1843 on land originally owned by the Western Baptist Theological Institute. Benjamin Grove, a landscape gardener, was the designer responsible for the Cemetery’s layout.
Over the succeeding decades, the Cemetery continually fell into disrepair and neglect. The situation degenerated to the point that in 1948, the Kenton County Circuit Court ordered the Cemetery property placed into receivership. An Inter-Local Agreement for the care and maintenance of Linden Grove Cemetery was executed in 1998 between the City of Covington and the Kenton County Fiscal Court. The Inter-Local Agreement established a Board of Overseers to manage and operate the Cemetery.
The cemetery has many of the most notable original Covington and Kenton County leaders laid to rest on these 22 acres. In this video we highlight many of these important people and the stories of their lives.

The church use to have a little playground in the cemetery. You could walk out the double doors into alley and inter it. Kids use to fish that little pond. It was filled with gold fish that could be caught on a pole. This cemetery was like a haunted movie cemetery in 70' and 80's. It was creepy. Teenagers would climb the trees and play catchers. And of course drink beers. They Overbays would come out and chase you off. They dug all the Graves by hand. They would give a couple dollars to some of the boys in neighborhood to help dig them, sometimes. Kids would play tackle football between old park and pond over on 13th street. That was the good days. Must say Mr Hatton got the graveyard into shape when he took it over. But was gave resources and labor, which the Overbays never had.

It was pretty shoddy back in 2004 I think the pond was dryed up all so.

It was real shotty back in the early seventies. Motorcycle club cleaned it up but the investors have over the years made it look better. They had a problem with drainage for a long time. There was stagnant water on the graves, tombstones knocked over and above ground graves with cracked vaults.

Imagine that. No credit to the Overbay family who worked for decades to keep that cemetery up. No credit to any of the other board members who made many sacrifices for that place. This guy only told a very small part of the cemeteries history.

Yea I agree. They missed it. The Overbays were done wrong, they were gave no resources or anything and they did what they could, with what they had.
