The building to the right of the monument at 9:09 is the former Watt & Shand department store. It was incorporated into the Marriott in the redevelopment of that block.
Great video again Robert. Beautiful part of the country. It`s definitely on My Bucket List. It was nice to see The Irish Flag flying outside the buildings in Gettysburg and again in Leesburg. There may be a big Irish community in that part of the state. Stay Safe.....
Hello Robert, still looking at your fantastic videos, this episode in Lancaster reminds me of New Hope , PA. Beautiful town, I loved it at Christmas time although I have not been there since 1975, but I hear it is still very nice to visit, maybe your next trip? Look it up - happy travels 😊
Beautiful countryside and we just love listening to you. You give us a great overview of the areas you stop in and give us a chuckle too! By the way it's never to early for a beer🤣🤣
I'll be so glad when at some point you can slow down some and spend more time in places instead of always being in such a hurry to get someplace else. Ether way I still love all your videos!
Another really interesting video. Too bad a lot of those monuments will have to be taken down as they are just so offensive lol! The town of Intercourse seems interesting! It's a happening town as you said! Looking forward to the rest of your trip!
Yeah buddy! Good one. Have always wanted to visit Gettysburg and the battle field. Great travel vLog through this area but, we (all of us Pelican heads) I'm sure are not ready for this summer trip 2019 to end even though it's getting closer.
Howdy Robert. I lived in Leesburg for three years sometime back. It was a small equestrian southern town. Very quiet and very small. Confederate statues (unfortunately discouraged growth) and that kind of thing. It has grown with the wineries moving in, the heightened interest in the civil war and development. But for the most part, still dealing with gentrification. All the housing but no people with money to spend. They just don't know how lucky they are. Still just a place to get gas and stop at 711. You may as well head into the city son.
Really love your travels Robert Next time you get to Ohio, try Homes County. If you like Amish, you will find a lot of them there. I can't tell you how many times I have been there. There is a place called Millers (if its still open) that served a lot of good foods.
Wonder about current status of the Amish buffet restaurant and whether they are even able to operate now as a buffet, reference COVID. There are many good Amish restaurants in that area. If you ever have the time, try one of the horse/buggy tours
You went to inner city Lancaster, not good! When people talk about Lancaster, they're talking about Lancaster County! Where you were, Miller's, that's where you want to be. Ronks, Blue Ball, Intercourse, Bird In Hand, Paradise, Gap, etc... If you know a few roads, it connects you to the entire county. RTs. 30, 340, 741, 896, 772 are some of the main roads that take you to some really neat sites and tons of things to do, Enjoy😊
The interesting things about the Amish are behind closed doors, at home. Better to read about them, but the Amish Farm can be a small window, especially to understand the differences between the Amish and Mennonite sects. For example, Mennonites can use decoration, as long as it’s functional, like curtains. If you’re driving past lots of power lines in the countryside, and you see a property with no lines to it, that’s Amish. Buggies most often on Sundays, because they leave their homes to worship and socialize, and the youngsters court then. The stuff you see in the tourist areas is mostly crafts (Amish and not) and food. Try chicken corn soup, chow chow, and chicken pot pie, which has a thick noodle and gravy, not in a crust as it is elsewhere. Diners are the best places to eat in Lancaster County. Smorgasbords are popular, with Shady Maple being the most famous. If you mention Intercourse, you’ve gotta also mention the nearby towns of Blue Ball, Bird in Hand, and Paradise, haha.
I believe that those are mennonites and not traditional amish people. If you come up to Western PA/NY, I can show you the dirt roads and some of the families with their places. I had a couple of their kids over to do some weeding this week. For reference, there is a local job reference if you cannot bale hay like a 13 yr old amish kid, please do not apply. Anyway, we pay each kid $10 an hour for their yard services. They are "friends" and even came over to visit us on Sundays.
I forgot about YT policies. HA Anyway, the kids want to come here and work 2-3 times a week but their father said no. Probably because we give them sodas and icecream too. :D
On my Summer of 2019 on my vacation I went to Ocean City, Maryland because me and my family on my channel are touristy type people and check out different things. Plus we visited into Virginia to Chincoteague and Assateague Island to see Wild Horses and the Assateague Island lighthouse. This year we were suppose to go to Virginia Beach and explore more there and Virginia but you know how things go. See you on Friday Mr. Robert and you can call me Kaleb and on stream last Friday I'm doing good thanks for asking lol.
Lancaster has a city population of about 60,000 and a metro area population of 507,000. How you were expecting a "small town vibe" from that is beyond me. Lancaster itself is kind of a dump unless you like mile after mile of nearly identical row houses. The town has something like 150 security cameras because of all the crime problems they've been having. The countryside is pretty, but I've give Lancaster a pass.
Yassssss Robert..... another great video as usual. Yes the Intercourse joke was hilarious but still tasteful 🤣 this channel has really been a ray of Sunshine during this pandemic
I live in Lancaster and it has interesting town names. The running joke is that you have to go thru Intercourse to get to Paradise to avoid Blue Ball. They are all small towns in Lancaster.
Happy Sunday Robert! I really enjoyed re-visiting Gettysburg with you. The cyclorama is really impressive, but I really liked the low-tech Electric Map, which was removed by the Park Service in 2007. It was moved to Hanover and restored, but sadly got closed down again. ps: sorry to hear about your drone. Is there such a thing as "lost drone insurance"?
Great review. Doing some research on Florida's memorial at Gettysburg, it was dedicated exactly 100 years after the battle on July 3, 1963. During the time of the commemoration, the dedication took into account the irony of the fact that they were commemorating the participation of a confederate state fighting on the side of the justification of slavery during the time of the Civil Rights movement. The speech that was given at the commemoration by Congressman Sam Gibbons who was a WWII veteran took into account the past's wrongs, abhorring the current use of terrible police tactics on minorities and the commitment to continuing progress in the future.
Hi Robert, I lived in Pennsylvania all my life. I really need to do more exploring. I really enjoy your travels. The PA turnpike commission is a corrupt organization that needs an investigation done to get rid of the crooks. Tolls have been going up every year. Disgusting. Thanks for the great channel.
@@paulob5153 Thank You! You simply must come back and visit us again in Michigan some time. We have a Hell and a Christmas waiting for you and many other cool places as well... but no Intercourse (officially).
Gettysburg, Pa. was one of my favorite places. I loved the changes that have taken place over the years, & was elated to see they still had the 360° Muriel. That was almost 50 years ago. I went on a field trip in 8th grade to Meyersdale Maple Festival for breakfast, then to Gettysburg the rest of the day. Thanks for bringing back the memories. Did you get to tour the chocolate factory in Hershey? I loved that too! My DECA conference was held there in one of the hotels by a pond. Wonderful weekend with my 11th grade year. I won with my manuscript.
Yeah we made it to Pennsylvania and we visited the capitol. Yes! I don't know if you visited to the capitol of Virginia Richmond. Oh well, always some other day right? Lol.
Amazing architecture and history. I would love to live in an area so steep in history of the united states origin and wonder about spirits of the people who were around back then.
Nice and creative Videos,I can see A lot of thought has been put into the content and editing of the video, This is really my favorite channel.:) .🌴🌴🌴excellent 👍👌👍👌👍 🌴🌴🌴 🌴🌴🌴 🌴🌴🌴 🌴🌴🌴 Concord Virginia 2,020
I watch often. When I do I wave goodbye to my husband and he says where ya going then I reply: I am going to ride with Robert you are boring. He smiles and waves goodbye. Thanks for sharing helping me get through this pandemic.
Hi Robert, I lived in New Jersey before moving to Florida. Spent time in Pennsylvania but never made it to Gettysburg. Thanks for stopping in for the tour. I am into the Cival war . We went into Pennsylvania a lot up in the mountains. 🌄🏞🏕
I enjoyed the video. I had lunch at Millers when I visited with my family in 2018 We also visited Gettysburg was only able to stop at the visitor's center. I visited with my family Gettysburg one other time when I was younger at the time there was a tower that you could take an elevator to the top and view the battlefield. Also went to Shenandoah National Park in 2018
Hello Traveling Robert! $30.33...OUCH😄😄😄😄! OUCH😄😄😄😄! Robert, I know how you feel about those ridiculous tolls as I paid the same cost from Pittsburgh area to Harrisburg. I wish I had known about RV show as I would have made the trip to meet you. I have been to every corner of PA and have been to Gettysburg, Hershey, and Harper's Ferry all beautiful areas. I especially love Harper's Ferry and I'm sure you walked the pedestrian bridge( part of the Appalachian Trail ) across the Potomac and into Maryland by foot, and when you walk down those steps you are not only in Maryland but you are also at the C&O National Historical Park and can walk along the old canal, SPECTACULAR! Such a beautiful spot with so much history. Great video Robert! Looking forward to seeing the footage at Harper's Ferry.
Very funny watching you drive around Lancaster County. Lived in Lancaster for 20+ yrs. When you were driving around Lancaster city you even drove past my old house. Glad you passed right through Intercourse, PA and didn’t get caught in Bird In Hand, PA......haha
I graduated from Elizabethtown Area high school and live in the southern end of the county now. I have Amish neighbors. You drove past the oldest farmers market in the country right off the square in Lancaster! You saw Intercourse but you missed Blue Ball and Paradise! 😂
New Hampshire and Vermont still have covered Bridges. Western Massachusetts might have a few left too. The Norman Rockwell museum is in Stockbridge Massachusetts
Beautiful shot of the countryside behind the restaurant ..... until you get a shot of the puppy Mills! Sorry. Very passionate about ending puppy mills.
